Reinhard blinked in surprise.
"The condition that allowed you to tap into that was extremely special in the first place." Mimir's head tilted, studying Reinhard's face. "The use of a hundred thousand souls to even create a connection large enough to have Odin descend through is absurd. That requirement would normally be fulfilled by your own soul, but you had to use the souls of others. So, unless you plan to slaughter an entire city, that's your first block."
Reinhard's frown as he nodded. "What if I got a Mythic Key that could help with that?"
Mimir's head tilted the other direction. "I'd call you the luckiest person alive to find a Mythic Key that can not only hold souls but has that many." The crow paused. "The second problem is that your body is too weak to withstand the pressure. The only reason you did it this time was with Brunhilde's help, and that was only through the Star Jewel and ritual assistance. But let's say you can bypass this as well. The biggest issue would be Odin's Will."
Reinhard's brows furrowed. "You mean whether Odin would descend to help or not?"
Mimir dryly chuckled as he stared at Reinhard in amusement. "He would descend, but it depends on what Odin would do. Because you aren't truly strong enough and your will is severely lacking compared to Odin's, you can't take control. And so Odin is still in command, meaning he can do whatever he wants, such as running away with your body or doing something else to fulfill his agenda."
Reinhard's eyes widened slightly. "Does that mean when he gave me control, he was fulfilling one of his agendas... Wait, I recall him saying he wanted me to experience the full power-"
"He wanted you to get a taste of his full power and be more interested in pursuing the peak of the world and gaining more strength." Mimir interjected smoothly. "And also make you understand that only with his full power can you control your life with no worries."
Reinhard fell silent at Mimir's words.
Reinhard's gaze drifted back to the window, seeing his own reflection in the glass now that darkness had deepened outside.
His mind returned to Phane City, back to the helplessness he'd felt when Fenrir was summoned, the despair, the irritation, the frustration of not being able to do anything.
Had Fenrir attacked and killed one of his friends, he would have been devastated.
Self-hatred would have consumed him for being so weak, so useless, so unable to protect what mattered.
"Yeah, I see what you mean..." Reinhard muttered softly.
Mimir nodded. "But the true reason I believe he would help is Odin's dislike for Fenrir. I originally thought he would take over and fight Fenrir instead of letting you be in control, but it wasn't that bad to have you fight."
Reinhard blinked in surprise. "Does that mean Fenrir is connected with Odin's story and experience?"
Mimir chuckled, the sound carrying layers of meaning, and he tilted his head. "You could say that. But to better understand, I'd say learn through Odin's dreams and soon Fenrir's dreams."
Reinhard's lips twitched before his gaze dropped to the back of his right hand, where the Beast Symbol rested beneath his skin. "Is there really nothing wrong with me?"
"There shouldn't. Odin would never put your existence in jeopardy with something that would most likely mean your end."
"So he would if I had a high chance of surviving?"
"You know what they say, only through conflict do people grow fast." Mimir bluntly said.
Reinhard chuckled before sighing and asking. "Does he really think I can reach the True Beast Master level? No S Class has ever done, let alone an SSS class."
"Odin would tell you to stop comparing yourself to those who came before and failed. Just because they failed, doesn't mean you would." Mimir stretched out his wings. "But for now, you don't need to worry about that, and should just work on getting stronger."
Reinhard nodded his head as Mimir was right.
He wasn't even a Second Class Beast Master, so worrying about becoming a True Beast Master was silly.
His gaze returned to the window, and outside he saw more gas lamps had been lit.
The pathways now glowed with warm light that pushed back the encroaching darkness.
Students continued their evening routines, some heading to dormitories, some visiting the library for late study, and others gathering in small groups to talk and laugh.
A pair of girls walked past directly below his window. They were talking in excitement and bouncing on their feet while they discussed something that made them both laugh.
Further down the path, a group of boys practiced with their Beast Spirit as they summoned spears and swords. Then they began sparring with each other under the watchful eye of what was probably an upperclassman. The clash of their weapons reached Reinhard's window faintly, muffled by glass and distance.
Near the library entrance, a couple stood close together.
The girl was pointing at something in a book while the boy leaned over her shoulder to see.
Even from this distance, Reinhard could see the way they smiled at each other.
"So, is that normal Academy Life?" Reinhard lightly muttered.
"It looks nice and peaceful. Something you can enjoy while you focus on devouring the souls I have gathered." Mimir says.
"We still have over 200, right?"
"You have over a thousand, which is more than enough to push you into Tier D." Mimir says, making Reinhard blink and then stare at him in shock.
"Where did you-"
"I swallowed some of the souls before Odin used the rest to restore the city, teleport the Phantasm Beasts away, and revive people." Mimir interjected as he tilted his head.
Reinhard's lips twitch before saying. "You're amazing."
"Of course, I am. And before you ask, you don't need to share it with your friends yet. I am sure they haven't spent the last 6 months being lazy-"
"What you're saying is I might have been left behind?" Reinhard asked with a raised brow.
"Would you sit around doing nothing after seeing what happened in Mensis Town and Phane City? And then to see your friend still in a coma after so long?"
"... Point taken, it seems I will be soul devouring for a while." Reinhard says as he stretches his arms.
Yet Mimir's words really made him tremble at how the world had continued turning for six months while he slept. Of course, the others wouldn't have stayed the same, and they most likely went on other missions as well.
It's probably how they gain more points to help Klein and Anna… Reinhard thought.
Even now, so much has changed with him being in the top 10 for the rankings. Brunhilde offered to be his blade and shield while Fenrir was his second Beast Spirit.
Reinhard's hand pressed against the window glass, and he shivered from the cool surface.
Tomorrow would bring Marie and Joseph's visits.
Tomorrow would bring questions and explanations, and catch up on six months of missed classes.
Tomorrow would bring the reality of returning to Academy life with all its challenges and expectations.
But tonight, Reinhard just watched with a smile.
He remained at the window, watching until the last stragglers disappeared and the Academy grounds settled into the quiet of the night.
