The first examination was over, and immediately a huge chunk of the candidates were cut down, and those that barely passed were worried. If this was the first stage of the exam and this was what they faced, then what would happen in future exams?
There was also the group that had started picking out the most troublesome to defeat in the entrance exam, and sitting on the top was Raze, then Gavin, and the girl with white hair. She had used light magic, one of the most difficult magical elements.
She used it with finesse and cut the target right in two. Beyond her was a young noble with a sharp expression, cold and detached. He had deep brown hair and red eyes, and he used earth and flame magic to create a flaming earth ball and attacked the target.
There were a few more, but Raze didn't pay attention to them, not because they weren't good, but because he only paid attention to those two, as they affected Gavin's life in the academy. Regardless of the fact that he wasn't going to stay in the academy long, he still found it interesting to see them.
A few minutes later, Sofia set up the next exam. The second one was simple: a desk was set for her right there with all five of her chapter knights seated beside her as well.
"This will be the second and final part of the exam. There are roughly five hundred of you, and I'll be cutting that down to three hundred in this moment.
What you have to do is simple, show me something special that you have created using mana in any way. Magic, sword attack, formation, concept, whatever it is, and you believe that it is something no one else can do.
Even if it has been done, if it carries a unique flair to it, you'll pass. If you are incapable of showing us something that is worth your time here, then you'll be leaving. There will be no written test, because I understand that though a good number of you come from noble and rich houses, a huge chunk do not, and so do not have the theory of magic and how it works," she finished speaking and folded her arms. "Like the first, step up and show what you have," she said.
Someone raised their hand. Sofia looked at her and nodded.
"Captain Sofia, isn't the test meant to span for the next two days?" she asked.
Sofia looked at her and tapped her finger on the paper provided for her to take notes. "I know what I said, and I meant it.
But the remaining part of the test isn't for those that fail here; it's for those that have been accepted. You'll have to survive through a certain ordeal for a few days to assess your ranking in the first year," she explained.
'I am not doing that,' Raze thought. He accepted taking the exam, but he also had to go to the Crimson Auction House, and he wasn't going to miss that for a stupid extra exam. He was here, after all, because he had an agreement with Lady Rose. There was nothing that the academy could possibly teach him.
"Something tells me you don't plan on staying for the part after the exam," Gavin spoke as he came close to Raze.
"Oh? Seems you can read minds now," Raze said.
"No, not that. Unlike everyone here that wants to learn, you are doing this out of your own convenience. From what I have seen, you couldn't be bothered if you stayed here or not," Gavin said.
"Exactly. I only took part in the entrance examination because Lady Rose asked me to. I couldn't be bothered otherwise. But for the second segment, she would have to give me a bag of gold for that," Raze said.
"Tsk, if the other candidates heard you, they would surely stone you to death for that," Gavin said.
"What about you? Taking it?" he asked.
Gavin nodded. "I need to gather as much as I can in the way of experience." He clenched his fist. "I need to get stronger," he added, conviction burning in his eyes.
Raze looked at him and let out a small smile. 'I guess that's the path you are meant to face. Hero.'
By now, the first person had showcased. It was a dual caster, and he showed water and wind, creating a vortex that twisted together yet didn't touch. Sofia looked at it with a blank expression, like she wasn't impressed at all.
"You pass, barely. I fail to see the application in which this magic can be used. Beyond that, it is a rankless spell, built purely from manipulation of both elements."
Her verdict, despite the fact that she passed him, was brutal, she had just basically insulted his work. This alone put everyone else in panic because they believed what he had done was pretty good. So what more could she possibly want?
The next person was a young girl with a staff and red hair. She lifted the staff before her, gripped it tighter, and the crystal on it glowed. She muttered something under her breath, her spell.
Suddenly, flames appeared on the ground and started moving in a circle. It grew in size and covered her entire body like a cylinder of spinning flames. Sofia was about to speak, her face unimpressed, but the next moment, the cylinder split into ten smaller loops around the girl. They floated off her, then reduced in size until they were only the size of a fist.
All ten began flying around her in a beautiful formation until they finally increased and covered her as a cylinder again before vanishing.
The scene shocked everyone, they watched with wide eyes.
Sofia gave a slight expression of a smile. "Despite the fact that your presentation has very little use except for a show, it was a good show. It showed your control over your magic. A good pass."
