Chang Long and the Day of Judgment for the Pirate King
On a deserted island beach, Chang Long found herself standing alone. Kitsune, Davy-chan, Hisa-chan, and Hulu were nowhere in sight. Her clothing was simple, unlike her usual God of Death outfit set. Soon, she saw a large sailing ship approaching the island. The crew rowed ashore in small boats, led by a man dressed in luxurious attire. Chang Long recognized him instantly as Davy-chan.
"Davy-chan!"
Chang Long called out. The man turned sharply, as did the crew, all looking at her with astonishment.
"Who... are you?"
Davy-chan asked coldly as he approached her on the beach.
"Huh! You don't remember me? I'm Chang Long. Don't mess with me, Davy-chan. You really don't recognize me?"
Chang Long asked, stunned. But this Davy-chan seemed slightly different from the one she knew. He appeared arrogant, proud, and constantly carried himself with an air of superiority. His gaze held a hint of disdain for others.
"Hmph! Who is this girl? Has no one told her how to behave in front of Pirate King Davy Jones?"
Davy-chan shouted, glaring at his crew to see who had brought this audacious girl to his private island. None of them raised their hands.
"Girl, how did you get here? Who brought you? Tell me,"
Davy-chan turned to talk to Chang Long as none of his subordinates admitted to knowing this girl.
"I don't know. I just found myself here. But where is this place?"
Chang Long replied, looking around again.
"So, the heavens must have sent you. Boys, why don't we take her to heaven ourselves? You've been working hard without a break to enjoy any beautiful girls,"
Davy-chan said to his crew. They cheered and surrounded Chang Long, who looked at the lecherous sailors with wide eyes.
"Davy-chan, what is this? What are these people going to do to me!"
Chang Long shouted, terrified. Davy-chan laughed cruelly before responding.
"My name is Davy Jones, girl. One of the Seven Greatest Pirate Kings. Boys, take care of her. Her voice is annoying me,"
he ordered.
Bam
Pow
Crash!
In just a few minutes, Chang Long had taken down five of Davy-chan's men. Though bruised and scratched, her eyes still burned with determination. Davy-chan watched in amazement. A small woman had defeated five burly men. It was an astonishing sight.
"Oh! Interesting, girl. You have some skills. How about joining my crew?"
Davy-chan said, his tone shifting. Both Chang Long and his crew were stunned by his sudden change of heart.
"What did you say!"
Chang Long was still in shock. Davy-chan ordered his men to find her new clothes. They walked deeper into the island, through dense jungle paths leading to a large clearing at the center of the island. There were several wooden huts, forming a village.
Bars, bathhouses, pawnshops, and stores – it looked like a village, except it was inhabited entirely by pirates. Chang Long noticed women in the bar, where most of the sailors headed first. Davy-chan laughed and walked up to the largest and most luxurious wooden hut, followed by a woman carrying a tray of food, fruit, and drinks.
"What is this place? Where am I? Why are there so many pirates around?"
Chang Long looked around in astonishment. Davy-chan was not the same Davy-chan she knew. He had a tangible body, numerous subordinates, and most importantly, he clearly did not recognize her.
"Hey, girl. Come here."
Davy-chan called out to Chang Long, who stood bewildered. Not knowing what else to do, she walked over to him, curious as to why he was pretending not to know her.
"Sit down. Are you hungry? You're welcome to eat from my tray. I must say, you're quite a woman, taking down five of my men. I'm impressed,"
Davy-chan offered her a large bunch of grapes.
"Do you really not remember me?"
Chang Long accepted the grapes and asked him with doubt. Davy-chan looked her over again, scanning. Then shook his head in denial, implicating he could not remember her…
"I've met many people, girl. You might be one of them, but I truly don't remember you. My focus is solely on the Pirate King title, which will be contested soon. That's my ultimate dream right now. If we did know each other and I don't remember, I apologize,"
Davy-chan said, his face more relaxed.
"It's strange. I feel like I don't need to put on my kingly facade around you. Perhaps I did know you, or someone like you—a beautiful and capable woman I couldn't share my life with,"
"Are you talking about my mother or something!"
Chang Long joked, but Davy-chan's reaction was anything but humorous. His eyes widened, and he scrutinized her face more closely. He scanned through her face, eyes, nose, mouth and skin. His eyes filled with a longing as he gently touched her cheek.
"April. Are you her daughter?"
Chang Long's mouth dropped open, not expecting Davy-chan to piece it together so quickly from her jest.
"Hey, I was just…"
Grab!
Chang Long began, swatting his hand away from her face. However, before she could explain that she was just joking, Davy-chan pulled her into a tight embrace, as if she were the person he had been yearning for with all his heart.
"She sent you, didn't she? You're her daughter, right? How is she? Is she well?"
Davy-chan asked a series of questions while still holding her tightly. Hearing his questions made Chang Long think of her real mother, who had died when she was very young.
"She's dead..."
Chang Long answered heavily, trying to hold back her tears. The arms holding her paused and slowly loosened. Davy-chan looked down at her sorrowful face and spoke softly.
"…I'm sorry. She was a woman I loved dearly, but I was too caught up in power and fame to stay with her. Seeing you reminds me of her. From now on, you are my daughter. You are my child. Everyone, listen up!!"
Davy-chan proclaimed, leaving Chang Long bewildered. Davy-chan then stood and announced loudly, calling his crew to listen to what he had to say. The crews all stopped what they were doing and gathered at the village center to listen to what their Pirate King captain had to say.
"This girl, from now on, she is my daughter, the heir of the great Pirate King Davy Jones. From now on, you shall call her Lady Chevy!"
"Lady Chevy!"
The pirates shouted in unison, echoing the new name Davy-chan had given her. Chang Long stood there, mouth agape, unsure of how to react.
Two days later, a message announcing the day of the battle for the Pirate King's title arrived. Lady Chevy, having accepted her new identity, wore a serious expression, mirroring her father's. She knew that the day of the battle would mark the end of the legendary reign of Pirate King Davy Jones. Davy-chan trained relentlessly, as did the other six pirate kings.
And then, the appointed day arrived.
At a large, white stone circular arena, the Seven Pirate Kings faced each other, each holding their signature weapon. They greeted each other simply, their greetings filled with both challenge and mockery. The banter did not last long before one king launched a sudden attack on the others. Cheers erupted from his followers as they saw their king send the other six flying.
Chang Long, along with many of Davy-chan's followers who had braved the harsh trials to reach the arena, cheered for him. The pirate kings' weapons glinted in the sunlight as they clashed fiercely. Every strike was powerful, even without the aid of special skills. One of them, who wielded claws and had wings sprouting from his back, looked like a demon from hell. He slashed at everything in his path, laughing maniacally each time his claws tore through flesh of other pirate kings, horrifying the spectators, including his own men.
Then, the moment Chang Long feared happened. Davy-chan was continuously attacked by the pirate king with beastly claws. He coughed up blood, his body swaying amidst the calls of his crew. He fell off the stage into the sea below, disappearing quickly.
"Davy-chan!"
Chang Long screamed his name, but the exhausted and injured pirate king seemed indifferent to everything. Fame, treasure, the title of Pirate King—No! None of it mattered to the Pirate King Davy Jones now. All he wanted was a place to rest after everything he had endured, hoping no one would disturb him.
"One down, weakling Davy Jones,"
one pirate king spat in disdain as his weapon shockingly transformed into another form.
"He will return. He will definitely return. He is the one who'll claim the Supreme Pirate King's title!"
Chang Long shouted at that pirate king in anger, but he merely snorted in contempt before rejoining the chaotic, deadly battle.
Chang Long bit her lip hard. She decided to go after Davy-chan, but someone attacked her from behind. She collapsed onto the sand, unconscious, and unaware of what was happening. The roar of the crowd eventually woke her up.
One pirate king stood victorious on the stage, laughing madly. He had defeated the other six kings. Now, he alone would be named the Supreme Pirate King.
"Not so fast,"
a familiar voice made Chang Long whip around. Davy-chan had returned, looking more dignified and colder. He leapt onto the stage, holding a new sword that Chang Long recognized as the Sovereign Sword. He smirked, taunting the only remaining pirate king with a flick of his finger.
The pirate king's eyebrow twitched at the challenge. He attacked Davy-chan with full force, and the battle resumed amidst the deafening cheers of the pirates. Those whose kings had fallen were gathering the bodies of their leaders, indifferent to who would become the new Pirate King.
Chang Long watched the fierce battle with a racing heart. It was strange how she felt both excited and terrified, knowing she was about to witness the final moments of Pirate King Davy Jones.
Shunk!
Both swords were embedded in the chests of the two pirate kings, but Davy-chan's Sovereign Sword had pierced deeply through to the back. He violently pulled it out amidst the joyous cheers of his pirate crew. His opponent's body fell, lying still in a pool of blood. Naturally, they thought Davy-chan was the one who survived, the sole pirate king standing on the stage, claiming the title of the Supreme Pirate King, the King of all Pirate Kings.
But Chang Long knew more than that. She knew it had to happen because the future of this pirate king was to become her spirit companion. She leapt onto the stage. Others thought she wanted to congratulate Davy-chan, who still stood motionless, looking around as if he could not believe what had happened. He looked slightly startled when he saw Chang Long, and as his body began to sway and fall, she rushed in to catch him before he hit the ground.
"Davy-chan,"
Chang Long called to him with a raspy voice.
"Chevy, my girl, my only heir. Be strong and stand tall to carry it on. Become the Supreme Pirate King,"
Davy-chan whispered his last words. His eyes stared blankly at the empty sky, and the hand that had gripped her shoulder so tightly that it was painful fell limply to his side. Though his body was still warm, he no longer had breath or a pulse. The Supreme Pirate King, who had stood above all other pirate kings, was dead...
"Noooo!"
The shout nearly shattered the tent, waking everyone up. Davy-chan, Hisa-chan, Kitsune, and Hulu all gathered around Chang Long, who seemed to have just woken up from a nightmare. She was panting heavily, looking around in confusion at her worried companions. When her gaze landed on Davy-chan's semi-transparent figure, she gaped and asked,
"Davy-chan, you're dead!"
Everyone froze, stunned by her words. Even Davy-chan looked a bit annoyed before he responded,
"Of course I am. We've been together all this time, and you just realized?"
"Sorry, I had a nightmare. I didn't scream so loudly that I woke everyone up, did I?"
Chang Long clutched her head, which was starting to throb after the vivid dream of Davy-chan's death.
"Yes, you did. You scared the heck out of me. I thought something serious had happened,"
Davy-chan replied with a frown. Chang Long looked at his concerned expression and was reminded of the events in her dream. Instead of retorting as usual, she remained silent, thinking it might be good to let him scold her out of concern. But...
"You're always causing trouble, never stopping, making everyone worry. Honestly, since we met, have you ever behaved like a proper young lady? What kind of person cause trouble for everyone, from people to beasts. And look, you even scream in your sleep, scaring everyone... hm?"
"Stupid ghost! You take advantage of my silence to nag endlessly. So what if I talk in my sleep? It's not like anyone can control that. And if I cause trouble, it's because of the situations, not because I wanted to, well most of the time. Besides, you're my spirit companion! Show some respect, instead of nagging me like this."
Chang Long could not help but argue back. Her intention to listen quietly vanished entirely.
"What? I'm only saying this because I worried about you!"
"How are you worried? Every word you said was an accusation."
"This is real trouble. Who can sleep with all this noise?"
Hisa-chan muttered softly in resignation. Kitsune and Hulu just shook their heads, watching the two bicker loudly in the tent.
It was strange how their arguments became more and more trivial. In the end, Davy-chan always gave in, not because Chang Long was his master or his heir, but because Hisa-chan thought Davy-chan genuinely cared for Chang Long, treating her like his own daughter. Despite Chang Long's tendency to argue and throw her weight around when displeased, there was never any real animosity. She often sought Davy-chan's advice when faced with problems.
"They're like father and daughter,"
Hisa-chan sighed, watching the two who had been arguing loudly now sit amicably together as if nothing had happened. Kitsune smiled, and Hulu rolled its eyes. Yes, no matter how much they fought, Chang Long and Davy-chan always made up, acting as if there had never been any disagreement in the first place.
