"It was the love we shared that made our bond possible, and why it will remain the strongest for all eternity. There's a reason Amreth was the first to wield the Zerdon sword with magic, and why I never bonded with any of your ancestors after that. He fought so valiantly to the end, to make sure the beasts and Jaeryn's evil forces don't gain control over your world."
Alrik could feel how strong their love was, even after Zerdon became a sword. Amreth loved her so much he decided to honour her sacrifice to make sure her name would never be forgotten. He took the name Zerdon to make sure his kin would always know the name of his beloved, even if the true story of the name's origin had been scrubbed from history.
"And I've been too weak on my own to cross worlds, even in the soul plane, so I have no idea if Faeri still exists, or if the beasts have taken it over. But the ancestors of those who started this evil managed to make sure history was rewritten, and tweaked to cover up their mistakes. Velmorra and Valderra used to be one nation. It split long ago after the descendants of those vile rulers disagreed among themselves, and remained mortal enemies ever since, even till this day. And that is why the portals only open between Velmorra and Valderra. No other countries have these portals, nor beasts."
That was right. Velmorra and Valderra had been enemies for more than a century, and no one ever truly knew what the cause of the feud was. But the hatred had transferred even to the citizens. Even a child knows Valderrans are the enemy and vice versa. They didn't have this level of enmity with other countries.
"Why now then? Why is the evil on the other side getting stronger?"
"I don't know. Something must have changed. Or maybe the barrier between worlds has become so weakened after being infiltrated multiple times. Who knows what Jaeryn has been up to. My people live longer than yours, sometimes, a person from Faeri can live up to four hundred years, depending on how strong the flow of mana is within them. He may still be alive, or maybe his offspring are continuing his mission. Either way, he still wants my power, despite the fact that I lost most of it by coming to this world. I have no regrets though, I got to live and love. My time with Amreth was the happiest I had ever been."
"So technically, you're my great, great, great, great, great… Grandmother?" He asked and he could feel Zee's amusement.
"I only had one child with my Amreth. A beautiful baby girl named Lorelei. We hid her away for her safety while her father was at war, and her mother became a sword. After Amreth died in battle, my power was weakened without a bond, but she didn't have enough mana to bond with me. I loved her, and she loved me, but it wasn't enough to recreate the bond I had with her father. I could only stay by her side, then I was passed down through your ancestors. I thought I would remain dormant forever, till you were born."
"We don't have a love bond like you did with Amreth though? So how is it even possible that we have a connection strong enough to awaken you?" He asked.
"I don't know how, or why. But you were born with Mana that shouldn't exist in this world. The only reason you haven't felt it till now, is because this human world has no magic. If you had been born in Faeri, you would have become a great mage. Maybe the weak barrier between worlds is the cause, or maybe it is the love you share with your Eliza that burns so bright that made it possible. Whichever way, your world is in less danger with you in it."
Alrik felt a presence close by, but couldn't really identify what it was. But it kept coming closer. The second he began to wonder if someone was approaching him, he broke his meditative state, and sighed as he opened his eyes. He had been right. Someone was there. It was Eliza.
"I'm sorry, did I interrupt? I was just worried because you've been in that position for a while, and you were so still."
He smiled at her and shook his head. "I was just getting done anyway, since it's already daytime. My first step in training is meditation apparently."
He uncrossed his legs and was surprised that he didn't have cramps after sitting in such a position for hours.
"Your first successful meditation has opened up the mana lines within you. Not by a lot, but enough to keep your body strong. You'll notice less pain from now on, less fatigue, maybe even less appetite. When you become strong enough, the mana flow within you will be enough to sustain you for as long as you can wield it."
"I have to admit. That feels a bit freaky. Imagine not having any appetite and going days without food, yet still feel okay. I like eating." He responded, and felt Zee's amusement at that statement.
"This happened before. I felt your emotion. I assumed it was because I was in a meditative state, but I just felt it again, Zee. You always say things like 'if I was human, I would laugh' 'If I was human, I would get angry' which I took to mean you can't feel emotion like a person can. So why?"
"That's a good sign. Our bond has begun. Your wife is worried. Give her a kiss, and have breakfast with her to make her feel at ease."
Alrik returned his attention to Eliza and they went down to join the others for breakfast.
"So, what are everyone's plans for the day? Let's go clockwise. I'll start." Kellan said. "I have a meeting with three clients, and one of them is an old acquaintance from high school. I want to see if I can tempt her away from her fiance. I hate the dude. We used to be friends in high school till he tried to frame me for theft. I was innocent, but now I want to steal from him."
"Gross. No one wants to know that." Ren scrunched his face, and rolled his eyes.
"And you better keep it in your pants. If you affect that deal in any way, I will hang you by your balls." Gaya threatened and Kellan winked at her.
They each spoke on what they planned to do for the day, till it got to Eliza's turn.
"I need to toss some trash out of my company, and finish off an important project."
"Need my help?" Alrik asked and she shook her head.
"You've done enough. Time for you to go back to your own office, Mr Hot shot CEO." She teased him, and he blushed.
"But I don't want to. I like being your secretary, and being close to you all the time. How will I get any work done in my office, when you're on my mind all the time, wife." He smirked, and pulled her closer with her chair.
She just laughed at his antics. He finally accepted to go to his own office, but he insisted on taking the same car. So he dropped her off at work first, before the driver took him to CrestView Group. When Eliza walked in, her head was held high, just like every other day. A way to remind them all that this was her company. Few employees hid their faces, hoping not to be recognised. Those were the ones guilty of spreading gossip. The rest either smiled awkwardly, or congratulated her for clearing her name.
She knew that negative publicity had a way of sticking to you, so even though the allegations were proven to be false, there was bound to be a few that didn't believe it. She was just glad that a majority of the public seemed to be on her side. She got to her office, and two secretaries immediately came in to hand over some files. Most of these were concerning new investors. Since her company was now receiving positive attention, and she was also affiliated with Crestview Group, a lot of people wanted to be part of her company.
She had a lot to review to avoid making any mistakes, and she was trying to get as much work done before… Her door banged open, and she sighed, because she could guess who it could be even without looking up. She knew this was coming, she just didn't expect it to be before noon.
"We need to talk."
She looked up, hoping only one or two of them were there, but surprisingly, they were all there. Her mother, father, grandfather, brothers, sister-in-laws, even her cousin twins, Nathan and Natalia. They were trying to ambush her, and by the looks on their faces, they were pretty desperate.
