In the Night Veil Amusement Park, over two hundred zombies had gathered, completely surrounding a strange-looking machine. Most of them were of the first level, while around fifty were at the second level. In the entire horde, there were only two third-level zombies.
In their midst, the machine emitted a soft light that refreshed them continuously, slowly accelerating their evolution. In a few minutes, two first-level zombies evolved to the second level.
To the zombies, the machine was practically a treasure. And this was why they had gathered around it, hoping to evolve faster.
Unfortunately, their peaceful moments were interrupted by the arrival of an all-female evolved team.
The team of second-level evolved women were clad in matching white and black armors, with swords attached to their waists.
Naturally, as monsters subjected to hunger, the zombies turned towards them and attacked.
"Graa…"
"Ragghh…"
Grotesque sounds came from their throats as they lunged at the evolved women, their yellow eyes filled with madness and hunger.
Seeing the zombies attack them, the women naturally retaliated.
SHIING~!
Their swords slid out of their respective sheaths and cut at the zombies. The motion was executed smoothly, and with practiced ease.
Slice~ Slice~ Slice~
The zombies at the forefront fell, their heads cleanly severed. This level of skill was outstanding. Even in the presence of a horde ten times their number, the women showed no fear.
They engaged the zombies with a chilling calmness. Even second-level zombies couldn't last a few exchanges with them. Their strength was at the peak of their level, and they were all equipped with two-star gears. Only a third-level zombie could give them a true challenge.
Seeing the two third-level zombies charge at them, the women's eyes burned with passion. A passion to fight something stronger.
Unfortunately, Sylvia was loitering around. Seeing the third-level zombies attack the female evolved humans, she jumped into the fray and blocked their path.
Wearing a light armor, she flipped her silver hair with an excited grin. Holding no weapon at all, she charged at the two zombies. From her knuckle-gloves, her claws extended, sharp and deadly.
The first zombie she reached was a hulking mass of muscles. Previously a man, the zombies muscles were absurdly enlarged and sturdy. Seeing Sylvia approach it, the zombie raised a hand and punched.
Sylvia didn't dodge the punch. Instead, she leapt off the ground, dug her claws into the back of the zombie's enlarged hand, then delivered a whip kick to its head.
Despite her slim and nimble body, the power behind her kick was heavy.
Bam!
Her heels collided with the zombie's jaw, forcefully turning the head sideways. The zombie reeled back, startled by her strength. Even though its mind had decayed, it had basic intelligence and understood that its enemy was strong. Stepping back, it raised its arms and attacked with full force.
Sylvia's eyes glowed, then she suddenly turned into a phantom. Her image blurred, disappearing from the zombie's vision. Before it registered her new location, dark red blood erupted from its neck. Sylvia appeared behind it, her hands stained with blood. Although she was at the second-level, she was strong enough to handle a third-level creature.
At this point, the second third-level zombie finally arrived. Without even entering a close range, it immediately attacked Sylvia. It furiously spat jets of green liquid at the girl.
Sensing the danger, Sylvia quickly retreated. When the green liquids touched the ground, it sizzled loudly, burning a five-inch hole into the ground.
Sylvia sucked in a cold breath, surprised by the effects of the attack. It was just like acid, but much more potent. Feeling a stinging pain on her arm, she glanced down and saw a small bruise.
Although she had dodged the acid, a bit grazed her arm. The gauntlet covering her arm had melted, exposing her skin. Her eyes widened. It had to be noted that this was a two-star armor. Yet, the zombie's acid had easily burned through it. Luckily, the gauntlet had took most of the damage. Her skin only reddened from the remnant of the attack.
Instantly, her caution heightened, her grin vanishing. Facing one third-level zombie was enough. Two? She'd suffer greatly. Even then, Sylvia wasn't deterred. As the leader of the Red Valkyries, she had the strength to back it up. Her purple eyes glared at the new arrival while she distanced herself from the two. The other zombies also avoided them, creating a small arena for the three.
The second zombie growled, green liquid dripping from its loose mouth. They sizzled upon touching the ground. Unlike the massive zombie, this one was smaller, almost like a teenager. Its back was hunched, legs slightly bent like the hind legs of an animal.
The stench of rotten flesh and sweat thickened in the air.
Unfazed, Sylvia stretched her arms, then flexed her claws. She bared her lips slightly, showing her dangerous fangs.
The little moment of peace was instantly shattered.
The hulking zombie lurched forward, its massive hand reaching for Sylvia. The acid zombie moved at the same time, trying to circle around the girl, then attack her from behind.
Watching as the massive hand closed in on her, Sylvia used the phantom technique again. Her image turned blurry, and she disappeared from her position. This was an attribute she had awakened after being turned by Leon. Just as the name implied, it allowed her to disperse her body mass and move more conveniently without facing the pressure of air resistance. This made it the perfect ability for a surprise attack. Instead of attacking the hulking zombie, she attacked the other one.
Whoosh!
She suddenly appeared beside the zombie, her claws already swiping down. The zombie instantly reacted. Although it hadn't expected the attack, its instincts still sensed the danger. It hurriedly raised its arms, using them to block the blow.
Bang! Slash!
The force from the attack knocked the zombie several steps back with blood gushing from the wounds. Although its defense was quite good, it didn't amount to much before Sylvia's claws.
The zombie shierked from the slight pain it felt, then staggered back. The hulking zombie moved, arriving by its side.
Together, they prepared to launch an attack against the second-level girl. A lump of bile formed in the acid zombie's throat, its attack imminent. The hulking zombie clasped its hands, then raised them. It wanted to knock her to the ground.
Sylvia's eyes flashed with a vicious glint, and she lunged at the acid zombie. She completely ignored the hulking zombie and attacked her most troublesome foe. She couldn't let the zombie launch its strange acid attacks.
As for the hulking zombie's imminent attack, she wasn't scared. Since Leon was around, how could she fear death?
'Boss wouldn't let his subordinate die.'
Her confidence soared like the waves of a tsunami as she approached the acid zombie. Her hands moved, swiping to crush its head. At the same time, she felt the shadow of the descending hands enveloping her. Time seemed to slow to a crawl. Then—
Bang!
A bullet pierced through the hulking zombie's head, cleanly blowing it apart.
