Since Jacob wasn't very used to using the tentacles they decided to get Jerry and a carriage, but Susan had volunteered instead. Robby was getting bigger, making a few first steps, as well.
The trip was rougher than the usual ride because there wasn't a proper road made. Kurt had also brought Harvey, or Harvey decided to come along. Kurt had asked the gnomes to make a little sleeping pod for him, and they did.
"So you really, like, control all this?" said Jacob.
"Sort of, like I said Layla is like top, and I'm right under," said Kurt.
"So like Prince Kurt?"
"Umm, really just Lord," said Kurt.
"But like really you're some top leader, and just yesterday it seemed you could barely scrape the rent."
"Yeah, it's been a little wild."
"And so dad is captured, I still don't get that. Are you the bad guys?" said Jacob.
"Well from our perspective the fire clan has been enabling the Fae."said Kurt.
"Huh."
"Like you can ask her yourself, she's there."
"So I'm the bad guy," said Jacob.
"I don't think it's that simple."
"Whatever, get me a place like yours and we're square."
"It doesn't work like that?"
"Why not? My prince."
"Don't call me that."
The outpost had welcomed Kurt after a patrol had stopped to check them out, it wasn't normal for them to travel by carriage on this side of the gate really. This time they went into the small tower structure. There was a big hall with tables, and some rooms along the sides, two stories, then a way up to the top.
"Jacob!" yelled Arthur.
"Dad," said Jacob.
"You actually did it, and Laura?"
"She's coming, waiting on Sara, I sort of caught him with his pants down," said Kurt, snorting a laugh.
"So what happened dad, what should I do here?" said Jacob, "they are really serious, something happened at the Castle, I'm sure of that at least."
"I'm not sure but I don't see the benefit of lying about it, eventually the truth will come out, you can't hide what they are saying. So does this mean you're my cell mate?"
"Cell mate?"
Arthur turned towards Kurt, "I would think, because he's and, Lord Kurt."
"Well, he sort of went AWOL," said Kurt.
"No, I have those orders dad wrote!"
"So you both want to play prisoner and wait for Laura, then submit to us?" said Kurt.
"It's like that?" said Jacob.
"Yes," if you plan to go back to the fire clan Jacob, I feel I would be forced."
"Then can you give me a few days with my dad here?"
"If that's what you want Jacob. The choice is really yours, but I think your dad knows you can't be on both sides here I'm afraid."
"Then I guess," Jacob turned to his father, "you have a cell mate for now."
"I'm actually not going to be around for a bit, so you'll have to ask Sara."
"What got a hot date?"
"Yeah, sort of, that's on the list."
That was actually true. Kurt's next course of action was to basically continue on with the plan, there were a few more steps. He would have to eventually go with Layla for their next stop at Lake Long Bow, and technically that whole official visit was still on. He would have to get his new officers to check on that actually, seems like a really useless first assignment.
But the first thing was the new gate, they wanted to go at night. When he got to where Layla was to start the portal. He suddenly wondered. Jerry had switched off with Susan for the trip.
"Wait, how are you doing this again? Didn't you always see you needed to be on our side."
"Yeah it's a little different now, see before I had to stay there because none of my Fae magic was on that side of the gate, but with the well there and my link with it, I can make the whole thing from either side now. Of course, anywhere far from the well I'll still need to be there, but I have a spot down the mountain we can get to immediately, we won't have to go and find a spot for the carriage to come out."
"So it's super convenient for you?"
"Yes."
"But won't it start making things from this side grow on our side."
Layla froze, "Perhaps, or just have the things on your side grow more plentiful. The well is sort of part of the world too."
"It sounds like you have no idea what will happen."
"It's not like it's ever been done before Kurt, I see you're still mad about it," said Layla.
Something still wasn't adding up from Layla, there was something still missing from her explanations. He couldn't put his finger on what and where. There was something wrong with a part of it.
"Of course I am, you didn't even discuss this, it's a big deal."
"No one discussed with us when you came."
Kurt still couldn't argue that one away, humans came to their side first. He couldn't even ask Layla to have a different perspective about it, it was her world just as much as we called ours, ours. "I expect to be better informed."
"Like you even bothered to show up to the meetings, you always could have come. If you did, maybe you would have known everything."
"Travis told me you were hiding it."
"At the end, when it was too late to go back, the goblins were deployed," said Layla.
"It doesn't feel like it was a 'too late' situation to me," said Kurt.
Dispute their argument that got nowhere, the situation never changed. It was a stand still, they have found their way to Lake Long Bow, and to Carl's company. And got off. Afterwards Layla created another gate as quickly as she could at an arranged spot. Being assured by the assistant they were on schedule, and that she was told a little about what was going on out of necessity.
