Kurt had decided he needed to maintain a more active role in everything, when Joe came to help with potions he told him to go get Hank and Tom. He returned with the other two.
"Is there something wrong sir?" said Tom.
"No, I just have decided to act more like my station."
"What's that got to do with us?" Said Hank.
"It means I'm promoting all of you."
"Promoting?"
"I don't know if you have a normal rank or station but, I want you three to keep me informed much more often, I want you to attend war council meetings, and ensure I am present for important ones. And to get regular updates, you would all report directly to me. And have the authority to speak for me. But I would advise you to consult me before doing anything too drastic."
"Does that mean I get one of those eleven swords? And a good one," said Hank.
"Yes."
"The position you are speaking of would be emissary, disciple, and herald, I believe."
"Huh, three of them?"
"Yes, an acolyte, that would most likely be Tom, and would attend the meeting on your behalf. I would take upon you as your disciple, your right hand goblin, and as herald Hank would be tasked with executing your orders or making announcements to the horde, less discussion more action," said Joe.
"You only say that because it makes you boss of us," said Tom.
"It sort of makes us all outside the normal chain of command, and we could conscript a cohort ourselves that would be proper," said Joe.
"See, I like this idea, under my direct authority," said Kurt
"Yes sir, though I don't think we would necessarily go against Layla, but we would have a more proper station at your side," said Joe.
"As long as I get that sword," said Hank, "I'm in."
"Then it decided, do I have to do a ceremony or something?" Said Kurt.
"No, I think I can inform the Warlord and everyone, he probably expected it eventually actually, I don't think there will be many objections."
Just then, Weapons Master Trenton had arrived, Kurt had forgotten today was a lesson day. But it seemed to work out that he had questions about the Elf's.
"Good you're here," said Kurt.
"Ohh are we doing a bigger training exercise?"
"No," said Kurt, but Hank had nodged him. "I'll tell him."
"Tell me what?"
"Well weapons master, these three need to get some new gear."
"I see, a sword and shield, a new bow, quiver and arrows and a staff, I would think. The staff would be the most difficult as we don't know much about goblin magic."
"That would most likely do. Joe can come to the village and talk about it with Blake. Actually I'd like to be there for that discussion."
"It will take some time, but if that is your wish, I can talk to Blake and arrange a meeting."
"I'm also looking for someone from the elves to report to me, I assume you have a fairly important role already, is there a normal position for something like this?"
"I would have to ask the chief, but it would be normal for you to host a regular meal to a subservient clan ambassador or two and would be expected to be informed of the clan's doing, and giving us orders, we could start doing that after our training exercises. We would also host you as well of course."
"That would mostly likely work for us as well," said Tom.
"Food is always a good idea," said Hank.
Kurt and Trenton then went to do their normal lesson. As normal as they were, as sometimes Trenton would show certain exercises, and patterns to repeat, and other times it would be more of a sparing session. Today was more of an exercise, sparing session. Kurt was supposed to deliver specific sequences of blows, and Trenton would block then stop. Trenton periodically made a strange movement, and judged Kurt's reaction, giving advice and praise for it.
Afterwards, Trenton had gotten into a more deeper discussion with Tom about his bow preferences, which type of style, and how hard of a draw. Where he liked his arrows. And then another deep discussion with Hank about how he wanted his sword and what he wanted it to do. Trenton has said he would probably like a Khopesh, and Hank didn't understand, but assured him that it would be something he might like.
They seemed to have a few things worked out. They had arranged a time to go see Blake as Lord Kurt was sure he could convince people to make time for him. He was going to figure out how much he didn't know before somehow. Layla was probably not done plotting something. And he would have to guess at that for now. Things were going to get serious quickly. They had the next meeting with the Valentine Clan as well, and had to figure out getting Jacob.
The problem with Jacob was he was in a training session with the Fire Clan, he would have to get him out and convince him to come to begin with. Or just take him. And he really should go today to start that whole mess.
He figured he could get Jacob to come somehow, and if not, he was prepared to grab him really. It was soon going to be clear what will happen to the clan. He thought he could convince him that they could get him out of a war, and that would probably be enough. Still, he would be surrounded by the enemy. Arthur had also given him a note and his cape to show proof.
Kurt had thought about just letting him go, but there was too much at stake, and he doubted that Layla would okay it, also the Valentine Clan would want to say something about it. It was a big mess. He did enjoy the thought of seeing the look on Jacob's face though.
