Invasion of the United States

Chapter 22: Air Defense

At noon, Xiao Jinlang walked out of the "Holy Light" cafeteria in Avini Town, satisfied with a burp, thinking about taking a short nap back in his room.

A few domestic technology personnel warmly called him "Director Xiao," casually chatting a bit about lunch's menu, and complaining about the daily problems they encountered at work.

"Director, four 'Katrina' aircraft are simply not enough, we need a more powerful fleet of transport planes."

"Exactly, the transport capacity is too tight, limited everywhere. But the 'crude refining' has also hit a bottleneck, and we can't increase the output."

"The camp's housing is also in a pinch, we either expand or relocate. The limitations of this small place are too great."

"The nearest city to us is Richmond, but unfortunately we're understaffed and hard to control."

Since Kelly returned to "Dongda" to seek assistance, more and more "our own people" arrived in North America via transoceanic flights, then gathered here.

The camp in Avini Town is the largest stronghold of "Holy Light" on the West Coast of North America, with over a thousand internal members, and about five hundred "local collaborators," "white slaves," and Black overseers.

The more people there are, the more urgent the management and security needs become—if the camp were to be suddenly attacked by surrounding hostile forces, the painstakingly established camp would suffer incalculable losses.

Therefore, while Kelly was working on the "Low-altitude Sentinel" project, Xiao Jinlang was also considering that if the project couldn't be delivered on time, there had to be an alternative plan.

To this end, he organized intercontinental transoceanic routes in Los Angeles, using Boeing 787s with a range of over ten thousand kilometers as transport planes to bring technical personnel and equipment from "Dongda," and naturally not without weapons and equipment.

After finishing lunch, he walked towards the camp office. Passing through the air defense position, he couldn't help but glance at the two surveillance devices that had just arrived a few days ago.

One was a remote three-coordinate air monitoring radar, and the other was a tethered low-altitude blind-filling radar, both lightweight and mobile.

With these two radars, any movement within a few hundred kilometers could be monitored in real-time, greatly enhancing the security of the camp.

The only downside was that these two radars were absolute "power hogs," consuming a massive amount of electricity in continuous operation, and the little solar power was almost entirely devoured by them.

Old Xiao sighed, "Now we can only hope that the 'Xihu' hydropower station in Farmville Town can provide some extra electricity, otherwise the camp's development would be capped."

Zhou Qing led a team to Farmville Town and reportedly had a good conversation with the local survivors, trading electricity for supplies, which was beneficial for both sides.

While Old Xiao was contemplating how much power he could secure and how to distribute it, a piercing alarm suddenly sounded within the camp.

Everyone was stunned at first, then, like startled ants, some dropped their bowls, some jumped off their beds, and some rushed out of the toilets, hurrying back to their respective posts.

Xiao Jinlang abandoned the idea of returning to the office and quickly headed to the air defense command center.

The command center was set up in the indoor gymnasium of the town's elementary school, with dense cables and network wires arranged in three rows of command seats, and more than a dozen display screens and a large electronic map.

Lin Anquan, responsible for the camp's defense, was sitting in his seat, with a dozen combat staff officers closely monitoring their respective surveillance screens, engaging in low and rapid discussions.

Xiao Jinlang was responsible for civil affairs and did not interfere in the military. Seeing the tense yet orderly scene, he found a quiet corner to sit and waited for the moment he would be needed.

Lin Anquan focused on a few red dots on the electronic map, issuing a series of orders before turning to Old Xiao and saying, "I'm afraid Farmville Town is finished."

The red dots on the map were stopping at Farmville Town, about a hundred kilometers away, with the automated command system labeling them as suspected low-altitude incoming helicopters.

By analyzing electromagnetic signals, flight speed, and rotor echoes, some of the red dots were even labeled with models, identified as the U.S. military's own UH-60 "Black Hawk" series.

Ten minutes later, the emergency-launched "Warthog" performed a side reconnaissance at an altitude of three thousand meters, confirming that Farmville Town was engulfed in flames with heavy casualties.

"It should be the aerial force of the 'Richmond Guard Team', they're the only nearby force with a significant number of helicopters and the corresponding ammunition."

Lin Anquan's face was gloomy, calling over a nearby staff officer and ordering, "The enemy's helicopters are retreating, dispatch a team to take the 'Warthog' to Farmville Town to check and confirm the enemy's casualties."

Shortly thereafter, a staff officer reported, "Jiang Menglong from the reconnaissance team sent a warning, the 'Richmond Guard Team' has dispatched a battlegroup, leaving their camp in over a hundred vehicles, heading towards Farmville Town."

On the electronic map, Farmville Town and Avini Town are located along the same highway.

Lin Anquan shook his head, "No, Farmville Town only has a hydropower station, nothing else of value. There's no need to dispatch a battlegroup to deal with it. The enemy is after us, they just wiped out Farmville Town along the way."

After a while, Jiang Menglong sent another message—the reconnaissance team ambushed the enemy's convoy, forcing them to halt on the road. But they couldn't stop those helicopters flying in the sky.

-----------------

On the horizon, eight UH-60M "Black Hawk" helicopters took off from Richmond Airport, cruising westward along the interstate highway at a speed of 240 kilometers per hour.

These "Black Hawks" originally belonged to Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, originally part of the United States Air Force's First Air Wing equipment.
