Huang Yun Arhat didn't take Daoist Huang Zhong seriously at all and bluntly told him to beat it.
The enraged Daoist Huang Zhong retorted, "You're really looking down on people! Come on, let's go to the top of West Mountain and have a swordfight. If I win, you let me take my foster daughter away. Do you dare?"
Just as Huang Yun Arhat was about to speak, the Red Flame Arhat next to him scornfully said, "What are you, to be worthy of fighting with us?"
"Then let's witness your swordsmanship right here!" Daoist Huang Zhong immediately released his newly refined Flying Sword, transforming it into three streaks of yellow light wrapped in whirling dust, shooting towards the Red Flame Arhat.
The Red Flame Arhat did not engage in a swordfight, but instead, with a flick of his finger, summoned scorching flames from the ground beneath Daoist Huang Zhong.
The flames first formed a circle, then morphed into a lotus flower shape. Petal by petal, the lotus flower blossomed and expanded upwards while burning fiercely.
Just as Daoist Huang Zhong was about to leap into the air, he was trapped by the flame lotus which clung to his body.
Taken aback, he quickly recalled his Flying Sword and performed Human and Sword Unity, transforming into a beam of yellow light dozens of yards tall that soared into the sky.
As he ascended, the flame lotus stuck to the light of his sword and also rose into the air.
Daoist Huang Zhong revealed his form in midair while the flame lotus, still at his feet, viciously expanded and bloomed, burning intensely. Its size swelled from an original diameter of just over three yards to nearly an acre.
Daoist Huang Zhong did not anticipate the opponent's spell to be so formidable. Knowing that it was the Demon Fire cultivated by the other, and failing to break it would result in being burnt to ashes, he realized his hundreds of years of arduous cultivation might ruin in an instant.
Every Buddhist, Daoist, demon, and monster has their own Fire Technique. Even the flame produced by each sect and each family is different, such as the Demon Fire refined by Jiu Panpo and the nature of it is different from that cultivated by Poison Dragon Venerable.
There is even a difference between the Demon Fire produced by Poison Dragon Venerable and Brueinga, though both are from the Western Demon Cult. The Daoist Immortal Fire and Buddhist Buddha Fire also come in many varieties, each with their own formidable and marvelous power.
The Demon Fire used by Grandmaster Ha Ha of this sect is also called Supreme Heaven Evil Fire. It is refined using the Evil Qi extracted from the various heavenly realms and is essentially similar to the flame emitted by the Twelve Supreme Heaven Divine Slaughter.
Daoist Huang Zhong, trapped in the flame lotus, tried three different spells to no avail to escape and was even less able to scatter and extinguish the flame lotus.
In the end, he drew his mountain treasure, a small yellow sand flag. With a gentle wave, a large amount of yellow dust swept down, enshrouding the flame lotus within it, grinding it forcefully.
The Red Flame Arhat sneered, "If you can break my Divine Fire, I will let you take that wench away! But I bet you don't have the capability..."
Before he could finish, suddenly, the flame lotus in the sky shattered!
The small flag that Daoist Huang Zhong took out couldn't break the Supreme Heaven Evil Fire.
All the dust and sand he had released were consumed in the flame, turning into ash.
The Red Flame Arhat had sensed this, which gave him the confidence to taunt his opponent.
However, Daoist Huang Zhong also knew that he didn't really intend to extinguish the flame lotus with that small flag; the flying dust simply temporarily separated the flame lotus from himself.
Then, Daoist Huang Zhong bit the tip of his tongue and spat out a mouthful of essence blood while simultaneously forming hand seals and casting his most powerful Heaven-defying Great Technique.
The yellow quicksand rapidly turned red, as if soaked in bright red blood, completely enveloping the flame lotus. It shrank more and more until it finally became a fist-sized ball of mud.
Daoist Huang Zhong was unable to destroy the flame lotus but utilized a spell to temporarily seal it.
From his high vantage in the sky, he shouted down, "Your Demon Fire has been seized by me! You must keep your word and let me leave with my foster daughter."
"You... you're dreaming!" The Red Flame Arhat jumped with rage and cursed, "You short-lived tuberculous ghost! You dare to seize my Divine Fire! Today, I will reduce you to ashes, make you into noodles, and feed them to that wretched maid of yours!"
This Demon Monk cursed and stomped, then riding on a streak of firelight, shot into the sky. He split his hands apart, revealing a Zen Staff that he lifted into the air to strike Daoist Huang Zhong.
Daoist Huang Zhong hurriedly unleashed his Flying Sword to parry, but as soon as it touched the staff, it was like hitting a pack of explosives, setting off a huge burst of flames.
With a "ding ding dang dang...", a succession of loud crashes, the Zen Staff, with the weight of Mount Taishan behind it, locked on to Daoist Huang Zhong and charged straight at him.
Unable to fend it off, Daoist Huang Zhong was forced to retreat again and again. The Red Flame Arhat remotely controlled the staff as it spun and whirled, shooting beams of Thunderbolt Flame from its six hoops; each flame was over a hundred yards long, and each strike was accompanied by resounding thunder that was deafening.
Overwhelmed, Daoist Huang Zhong threw out eight small banners. Once in the air, they arranged themselves into a formation and fluttered erratically.
In an instant, dark clouds blanketed the sky, dust and stones flew about, and strange gusts of wind swept across heaven and earth, engulfing the entire airspace above the county city in darkness.
Next, Daoist Huang Zhong tossed four Yellow Eyebrow Nails into the wind.
Red Flame Arhat sneered, "Such insignificant Dao Level, yet you dare to show off?" He first gestured with his hand, collecting all four Yellow Eyebrow Nails into his grasp and then sealed them with a spell, restricting their power.
He pinched his fingers together, casting a spell that conjured bolts of Thunderbolt Fire from the sky, dozens upon hundreds of them raining down on Swollen Huang Daoist. In response, Swollen Huang Daoist released myriad strands of yellow sand from his sleeves, trying to fend off the flames.
The more Red Flame Arhat fought, the more vigorous he became. Swollen Huang Daoist defended for only a moment before eight small banners around him suddenly caught fire, quickly turning to ash.
With his Magical Treasure destroyed, the gloomy winds and dark clouds in the sky also dispersed.
Realizing his spells were broken, and his treasure destroyed, Swollen Huang Daoist knew he couldn't defeat this bald donkey and hastily made an escape using Body and Sword Combined, fleeing into the distance.
"Where do you think you're going, you consumptive ghost!" Red Flame Arhat bellowed furiously, using the technique of an External Body.
Another figure, an Arhat towering a hundred zhang high, appeared above the clouds, blocking Swollen Huang Daoist's path, wielding a Zen Staff that came crashing down upon his head.
Seeing him use such a spell, Swollen Huang Daoist realized the other's Dao Level was far beyond his own, and it was already too late to employ any more spell transformations.
With a "clang," his sword light shattered under the Zen Staff, which then spewed six Fire Dragons from its rings.
Swollen Huang Daoist desperately used his escaping light to flee but was caught by the six Fire Dragons, which first refined and dissipated his escaping light, then wrapped around his body. In an instant, he was burned to ash, with not even his Primordial Spirit managing to escape, seized by Red Flame Arhat to forge Magical Treasures in the future.
Red Flame Arhat descended, and many villagers who had come to watch the excitement knelt before him, addressing him as Arhat Grandfather and praying for his protection.
Red Flame Arhat laughed heartily, and on the spot, he chose four families with daughters, instructing them to bring their daughters over that night so that he could bestow blessings upon them.
Shi Feiyang arrived just in time to see Swollen Huang Daoist being killed and Red Flame Arhat revealing his holiness in front of the villagers, demanding that they offer their daughters for his enjoyment.
Those villagers who were kowtowing looked dumbstruck. Why wasn't Arhat Grandfather reciting a few lines of Buddhist Scriptures or chanting a few Buddhas' names? He didn't ask for alms either; he just directly demanded their daughters. Something seemed off, but they couldn't quite articulate what it was, though they had all seen the Arhat ascend to the skies, duel with the Demon Human, dispel the dark clouds, and reveal his hundred-zhang-tall Golden Body.
Without a doubt, the one before them was truly a Buddhist Arhat; if he acted this way, surely this must be the way of real Arhats.
Red Flame Arhat then told everyone that they must do as he said; if they presented the four girls, he would bless them all, ensuring good weather and peace. If they refused, disaster would strike – every house would catch fire, and a plague would engulf the entire city, leaving none alive!
Frightened to death, the villagers kept kowtowing earnestly, begging for mercy, while also gathering together, persuading those four families to offer their daughters.
Red Flame Arhat paid them no mind, instead entering the Shi Family's large courtyard with Huang Yun Arhat, shutting the gates behind them, simply waiting for them to bring the girls.
The four chosen families all wore grim expressions, each with a virgin daughter still in bloom. Red Flame Arhat had an eye for beauty, as each of the selected daughters was indeed just come of age at twenty-eight, striking in appearance.
"If he is a true Buddhist Arhat Grandfather, then our daughters following him would be blessed. But it still feels wrong; this isn't like anything known to exist in Buddhism."
An old villager advised them, "Not all Bodhisattvas and Arhats in Buddhism are cut from the same cloth. Look at Jigong Buddha; he drinks and eats meat and does whatever he likes, never adhering to the disciplinary rules. Isn't he also considered a living Buddha in the Human World?"
The four families went back to consult with their people.
Shi Feiyang approached the gate of a house, knocked on the door knocker, and was quickly met by someone who looked to be eighteen or nineteen, clad in green with a Jade Crown atop his head, seemingly a scion of a wealthy family, who first asked his business.
Shi Feiyang said, "Go tell your master that I can help him keep his daughter."
The servant turned and went to inform his master, soon returning to invite Shi Feiyang inside.
The family's surname was Bai; when Bai's patriarch saw Shi Feiyang, he looked him up and down, pondering what his business might be.
Shi Feiyang informed him, "I am an Earth Immortal from the overseas, known as Yuan Yang. The two monks you saw are not good at all; they desire your daughter with ill intentions and it's not just for their simple pleasure. They also want to use them to cultivate Evil Skills. If you truly send your daughter there, she won't even keep her life safe!"
The Bai family, already harboring doubts, clutched at what he said as if grabbing a lifeline. "Can the young Daoist have a way to save our daughter?"
"Of course, I have a way. Gather the other three families and bring your daughters as well."
Bai promptly sent someone to find the other three families, and before long, they had all gathered, daughters included.
Shi Feiyang took out four bamboo leaves. He had cultivated for many years in Bitter Bamboo Temple on the north bank of Yuan River and carried many Bitter Bamboo Spirit Leaves. Now, he took out four of them, drew four talismans on the spot, and gave them to the four girls to carry on their person.
Then he brought forth a Demon Mother.
With a flash of red light, a voluptuous woman draped in red gauze appeared out of thin air, startling everyone and causing them to exclaim in shock and retreat backwards.
Shi Feiyang pointed with his hand, "You transform into the four of them. Tonight, you will take their place and meet those two monks."
The Demon Mother swayed her body and split into four, then shook again and took on the appearance of the four girls. Her red gauze also transformed into their clothing, matching perfectly in height and build.
