Scene 1 – The Silence After
The silence was almost unbearable. Dust swirled in slow spirals, filtering the faint shafts of moonlight piercing the shattered roof. The hall, once resplendent with banners and polished marble, now looked like a graveyard of stone and bone.
Kai's body lay at the epicenter of the blast. His skin glistened with sweat, his chest shallowly rising and falling, each breath a fight. The shards of the Sovereign's crown lay scattered around him, some still glowing faintly as though unwilling to die.
Velis dropped to her knees, sliding to his side so fast that her armored boots scraped the rubble. She pulled his head into her lap, her usually steady hands trembling. Blood—was it his, hers, someone else's?—smeared her cheek, but she didn't care.
Her voice cracked. "Kai… no, no, no. Not like this. Stay with me." She pressed her forehead to his, whispering so only he could hear. "You promised. You promised you'd keep walking forward."
Lyra crouched on the other side, her chains sparking faint arcs of lightning as if her emotions bled into her weapons. She looked at Kai, then at Velis, then at the crown-shards, eyes widening with realization.
"He's alive… but it's wrong. He doesn't feel the same. His heartbeat—Velis, listen—it's out of rhythm."
Velis bent close, hearing it too: a heavy thrum, too slow, then too fast, like a war drum trying to find its beat.
Astra came next, dragging her robe across shattered marble, kneeling with frantic precision. Her fingers moved in practiced motions, sketching runes in glowing air. Her voice was a whisper of awe and dread.
"The crown… it didn't break. It changed hosts. He took it into himself."
The words hit them like thunder.
Velis shook her head violently. "No. He didn't choose this."
Astra's hand faltered. Her voice cracked. "Choice or not doesn't matter. He is the crown now."
Scene 2 – The Mistress's Delight
The tension shattered when a sound rolled through the rubble: a soft, lilting laugh.
It was the Mistress. She emerged from the haze of dust untouched, her golden gown flowing around her like liquid sunlight. Not a hair was out of place, her golden eyes bright with a delight that made the wives' blood run cold.
She strolled toward them with unhurried grace, the way a predator approaches prey it knows cannot escape. "Oh… how delicious. The crown shattered, but the boy didn't crumble. No—he consumed it. A vessel born of desperation, and yet he remains… himself."
Velis rose halfway to her feet, one hand gripping her sword, her other arm still supporting Kai. "Stay back." Her voice was low, dangerous.
The Mistress smiled wider, amused rather than deterred. "Why would I harm him? Don't you see? He is perfect. A king with no throne, yet every chain in the world already coils around him. Tell me, my sweet Kai…" Her gaze dropped to him like a caress, "how does it feel to have a god burning inside your veins?"
Kai stirred, his eyelids fluttering. For a moment, they were the storm-grey his wives knew—but a flicker of gold and shadow laced the edges of his irises before fading.
His lips parted, his voice hoarse. "Heavy."
The Mistress's laughter rang like crystal struck by a blade, high and unshakable. "Oh, darling. It will only get heavier."
Scene 3 – The Queen's Fear
The wreckage shifted at the far end of the hall. With a groan of broken stone, the Queen rose from the debris, her gown torn and streaked with blood. Even battered, her bearing was regal, her chin high, her aura commanding. Her guards scrambled up beside her, coughing dust, rallying to her side with devotion.
Her eyes found Kai immediately. At first, rage lit them—but then it cracked, revealing something rare. Not anger. Fear.
Her voice cut like steel. "He carries it. The curse of the True Sovereign. He is no longer beastmaster nor man—he is a vessel of rot. If he draws breath, this world will drown."
Her soldiers froze. Their queen's command was clear, but their faces wavered as they looked from Kai—broken, bleeding, surrounded by women who shielded him—to their sovereign.
Velis spat blood to the side and rose to her full height, blade gleaming. "If not for him, you'd already be dead under your own palace's rubble. Don't you dare call him curse."
The Queen's lip curled. "Which makes him all the more dangerous. Kill him now before the shadow roots deeper. Before none of us can."
Scene 4 – Between Two Chains
The harem tightened their circle around Kai like a pack of wolves defending their alpha.
Lyra's chains whipped and cracked, lightning crawling across her arms as her eyes burned with fury. "You'll have to go through me. Try it, and your palace will see fire and thunder."
Astra's runes spun faster, taking on edges like blades, their glow pulsing with her heartbeat. Her expression was unyielding. "If the Queen fears him, then we know he is worth protecting."
Velis raised her sword, her body trembling but unbending. She looked down at Kai, then forward, her voice steady as steel. "He's ours. Always."
Kai stirred again, forcing himself upright, swaying against Velis's hold. His voice rasped but carried iron. "I won't… be anyone's pawn. Not yours, Queen. Not the Sovereign's. Not even yours, Mistress."
The Mistress only tilted her head, her smile deepening with cruel sweetness. "Oh, darling. You already are. You just don't know which leash is tugging hardest."
The Queen's hand lifted sharply, summoning her guards. Blades hissed free, the tension snapping—
But before the first step fell, the ground itself convulsed.
Scene 5 – The New Chain
A crack split the center of the ruined hall, glowing with eerie shadow-light. The air thrummed with an alien vibration, pressing into bone and marrow.
From the fissure, a sigil burned itself into existence—spiraling, infinite, etched in black fire.
Then came the voice. Hollow. Vast. Shattered but still mighty.
You bear my chain. You are not free. Crownless, yet chained. Vessel, yet devourer. The balance is undone.
The sigil flared brighter, and phantoms clawed their way out—half-formed beasts, their bodies smoke and bone, their eyes glowing. Each one was tethered to Kai by invisible threads of light and shadow.
Kai gasped, clutching his chest. Black veins spread up his neck, then retreated. His eyes glowed faintly before dimming again. He could feel them—the beasts—not as enemies, not as allies, but as something bound to his soul.
The Queen staggered back, her composure cracking. "See? He's already binding the Sovereign's brood!"
The Mistress's laughter rolled like thunder. "No, sweet Queen. Look closer. They are binding to him. He is no servant. He is their master now."
Kai collapsed to one knee, breath ragged, his wives supporting him. Yet even through the pain, he lifted his head, fire blazing in his storm-grey eyes.
"Then I'll master it. Or it'll master me."
The hall shook again as the phantoms growled in unison, chains rattling in the air—awaiting his command.

The fissure yawns wider, birthing more of the Sovereign's chained beasts—phantoms of shadow, bone, and hunger. Each one snarls with eyes fixed only on Kai, their new vessel. The wives form a circle around him, blades, chains, and magic ready, but Kai feels their fear trembling through their grips.
One beast steps forward—a towering wolf-shade with a body of smoke and ribs of glowing ember. Its chain tugs, but it does not bow. Instead, it lunges, testing whether Kai is truly worthy… or just another weak pawn to be devoured.
The Queen orders her soldiers to strike while Kai is distracted. The Mistress whispers sweet temptations into his ear, urging him to submit and let the beasts bind him deeper. And the harem? Torn between killing the creature and trusting Kai to tame it, their unity teeters on the edge of collapse.
To master this beast is to claim the first true step as Sovereign.
To fail is to be consumed, body and soul.
