Hello again people. If you are enjoying the novel I am glad you are, and if you just discovered this on the recent updated list, please read the blurb first.
First things first: I wanted to talk a bit about how writing fights for Heartworm feels like, but i am an eidolon of rambling so bear, dog, cat , and pinniped with me.
And boy, they are demanding to write. Mainly, because for Heartworm i lack many crutches and shortcuts I can use in other stories. I am imagining the monsters from scratch (Generally stemming from a single concept or body part), even if many will inevitably resemble existing concepts.
And Dirofil's fight style... never helps. I have to resort to blow by blow action at times because he's a pliable alien thing fighting like a pliable alien thing. Going into a fight where humans are featured, I just need to take skill level, human anatomy, powers, and weapons into account. If i saya couple of knights clashed their swords as they looked into each other's eyes as they tried to overcome the highly-homoerotic atmosphere, you can perfectly picture the scene.
Shapeshifters of any degree add a level of complexity. It would be Illogical for the Thinkers to fight like people: they do nor bleed, they don't have the concerns of people, and their pain is rather nebulous. They can repair themselves no matter how much damage they sustain as long as their cores are unharmed and the resources available. A ripped off arm can be reattached. A metallic eye can be used as a projectile. A tail can be a grenade.

And the environment is always made of fucking dogs arranged in funny ways.
What I meant to say is... I dread writing fight scenes. In progression fantasy no less. They take extra brain power to find words to describe what's happening. To get the details of the creatures right. And I love when it flows but it never makes the next one easier. That's part of what makes some chapters take longer than others.
I love Heartworm as a project, it allows me to be a nerd while writing a story with characters that, to me, feel genuinely themselves, free from many of the behavioral modifiers that come into action when you form part of an human society. I don't want this to be taken as an excuse or a complaint but an explanation of the challenges I face while writing this story. Some days the words wont flow, no matter what. Some days they will flow and be shit so I just delete them.
Anyway, i wanted to give a little insight on a peculiar difficulty of the creative process. i hope you are enjoying/enjoyed today's chapter, and over all things, thank you for giving Dirofil and Co. A chance to prove themselves deeply broken creatures.
Next chapter will be updated first on this website. Come back and continue reading tomorrow, everyone! If you find any errors ( broken links, non-standard content, etc.. ), Please let us know < report chapter > so we can fix it as soon as possible.
