Homestead Survival

067: Flight Prep 1

<22 August 2024, GRAND MESA OF SUMMER , A+> [Theo and Julia]

Time to Primordial Flight: 47H - 58M - 51S

As they all finished reading the notification, a black and red timer appeared in their lower left-hand field of view, and Varess found his voice once more.

"Primordial Flight? That is what this is about. That is why you had me create the Mana Convergence Array?" Varess demanded and looked at Patriarch Karzun.

Patriarch Karzun, who had been explaining things rather calmly, flared his power, driving Varess to his knees. "You would do well to remember who you address. You may be my Family, and I may care for you, but you have already proven to me that you... are problematic, to say the least."

Varess looked hurt, and the power that Patriarch Karzun had demonstrated faded. "Varess, I sent you here in an effort to have you establish relations. You have failed. Tell me, have you completed the task that you were sent here for?"

"I..." Varess looked mildly panicked, and then his head dropped. "Yes, Patriarch, I have completed the designated Mana Convergence Array."

"Good. Theo Sorrenson and Julia Brahmin, you have my apologies for how my Family has behaved. What would you ask in recompense?"

Julia smiled and bowed her head to Patriarch Karzun. "We appreciate your offer, but you have done so much for us already. If you must do something, please let Sylvi stay with us through the Primordial flight if she wants to, and we would love for her to be allowed to visit."

Theo nodded in agreement, locking eyes with Patriarch Karzun, who seemed to always be waiting for a staring contest. "I agree. If you would also pass along the message to Lady Eg'Valla and Gurndin the Darksmasher as to when they need to have their family members here, that would be much appreciated."

"Consider it done." Patriarch Karzun said, "Before I leave, may I see you finish the placement of the Homestead Core?"

"Of course," Theo said and removed the Core from his pouch. Just to be safe, he cast Identify on the Core before anything else.

Identification of Target Subject: Homestead Core Level: 1 Mana Density: S- Class: N/A Special: System Granted Species: CORE ENTITY Other: CORE_ID_7g98Hq-1 Description This Homestead Core awaits implementation in a homestead.

This CORE ENTITY is System Granted, guaranteeing its quality and purity.

Implement this Core in your homestead for benefits ranging from System-Granted tasks, rewards for Homestead expansion, and many others.

Homestead Cores may be leveled up before and after implementation by feeding them Rift Fragments

Value: 109G_57S_73C Status: Neutral

Theo read over the screen quickly, noting that they could level the Core with Rift Fragments, whatever that was. He moved up to the carved claw that he just now realized had runes inscribed on each claw and down to the stones that held it all up. He placed the glowing colorless crystal into the claws of the hand. The mana in the Core pulsed, and the stone claws seemed to contract around it.

Theo and Julia suddenly received identical messages.

>Homestead Message: Greetings. I am Core 7g98Hq-1. You may designate me a name of your choosing, or I will develop one at a later date. To speak to me in person, either place your hands on the Core or construct Auditory Arrays in rooms you would like me to be able to speak in. Thank you for Implementing me.

Theo and Julia looked at each other, and before they could say anything, everyone received a notice.

System Message Regarding: Homestead Recognition Description Your Homestead is now a recognized System-connected area. Due to having a Core, quests, tasks, mandates, and a variety of other events may be offered by the Core. Due to having an integrated mana convergence array and mana conduits, your Core has extended ability. Due to the artistic nature of your Core's resting place, the crafters are recognized. Note: Crafters' Names Commemorated at the behest of Core.

They all finished reading and then suddenly saw a flash of light at the bottom step. There, in System Runes, were the names of all who had participated with a short note of recognition.

Patriarch Karzun smiled. "Well done, all of you. Now, then, we will be departing. Sylvi, you may stay if you wish, though if you do, I would ask that you not be a burden."

Sylvi nodded and bowed her head slightly, "I will stay, thank you, Patriarch."

"Now then," Patriarch Karzun said, "Agara, a doorway if you would. Theo and Julia, we will send our people through twelve hours before the flight. Make use of them if you must."

"At once, My Lord," Agara said, channeling a skill for a moment and then opening the blue door that appeared, letting Patriarch Karzun, Varess, and finally Agara through before the door vanished.

Theo glanced at the timer in his vision.

Time to Primordial Flight: 47H - 30M - 22S

"Alright, change in plans," Theo said, realizing how much they had to do. "Ordus, out of the dwarves, who can travel the fastest and look for the food they are sending?"

Ordus barked out some Dwarvish, and a younger Dwarf raised their fist to their chest and responded. Ordus nodded before answering Theo. "The young man there says that none in his clan are faster than he is alone."

Theo nodded. "Is he confident in his ability to make it to his clan or at least to whoever or whatever is bringing the promised food?"

After a moment, Ordus responded. "He is."

"Good, tell him to go and track down the food or bring it back himself. He has just under two days." Theo said.

Ordus spoke quickly. And the younger Dwarf, to his credit, turned and took off at a sprint. Theo then looked at everyone else. "Well, it's time to get back to work."

They worked for the three or so remaining hours of sunlight. Then Theo, Julia, Ordus, and Sylvi retired to the campsite, leaving Kreldar in charge.
