Opening Scene – The AnnouncementIt was official:
Celtics vs. Lakers.
LeBron James vs. Kyle Wilson.
National TV. Prime Time.
The NBA app plastered the graphic across every feed:
"The King Meets the Reaper."
Ari was scrolling through the app in her dorm room when she froze.
"Here it comes…"
Celtics Locker Room – Pre-GameThe TD Garden was buzzing.
Every seat filled, every camera tuned in.
Paparazzi outside. Celebrities courtside.
Kyle sat taping his fingers, headphones in.
Next to him, Marcus Smart nudged him.
"You breathing?"
Kyle didn't answer.
Jayson Tatum walked past.
"Just don't let him post you up and call you 'young blood'... that's when it's over."
Laughter around the room.
But Kyle? Silent. Focused.
Because this wasn't a game—this was a moment.
Tunnel – The King ArrivesLeBron James walked through the tunnel, calm and regal.
23 on his back.
Signature scowl on his face.
Laser focused.
As he passed Kyle in the pregame hallway, he paused briefly.
"You the Reaper, huh?"
Kyle nodded.
"They call me that."
Bron grinned.
"Let's see if you earn it."
First Quarter – Welcome to the LeagueLeBron wasted no time.
First possession?
Isolation on Kyle.
One dribble
Shoulder fake
Spin
Layup through the chest
The crowd exploded.
Bron jogged back, eyes sharp.
"That all you got, kid?"
Kyle wiped his face.
Not a word.
Next trip down?
LeBron caught a lob.
Then blocked a Kyle jumper.
Then bullied him for a dunk.
Announcers were wild:
"LeBron is sending a message to the rookie!"
"This is a legacy check—can Kyle hang?"
Ime called timeout.
Celtics down 12.
Kyle sat on the bench breathing hard.
Knee sore. Ego sore. Soul sore.
But the fire wasn't out.
Second Quarter – Kyle's TurnIme didn't say much in the huddle.
Just four words:
"You ready to grow?"
Kyle nodded.
The next ten minutes?
A masterclass in patience, positioning, and poise.
Kyle denied Bron in the post—twice.
Switched onto AD and held his ground.
Hit a corner three off a broken play.
Finished an acrobatic layup through traffic.
Then—the moment.
Kyle met Bron at the rim.
LeBron drove right
Kyle slid, timed it—perfectly
BOOM!
Kyle swatted the King's layup off the glass.
The Garden ERUPTED.
"HE BLOCKED BRON!"
"THE ROOKIE JUST STOLE CHRISTMAS!"
LeBron raised his eyebrows, nodding.
"Okay, young blood…"
Halftime – Even Game, Even RespectScore: 58–57, Celtics lead.
Kyle sat, breathing deep, drenched in sweat.
His line:
9 points
5 rebounds
2 blocks
1 steal
Ime patted his shoulder.
"You're not a rookie tonight."
Kyle looked up, eyes cold.
"I never was."
Third Quarter – Chess MatchBron dialed it up.
He wasn't playing bully ball anymore.
He started testing Kyle's mind.
Pump fakes
Delayed passes
Backdoor cuts
Kyle was locked in.
He made mistakes.
But he learned—in real time.
Then he struck back.
Late in the third, Kyle caught the ball with Bron sagging off.
He could feel it.
"Shoot it."
He rose.
He fired.
SPLASH.
Bron smiled.
"Now you cookin'."
Fourth Quarter – Final Minutes2:22 on the clock. Tie game.
Kyle switched onto LeBron.
Everyone in the building stood.
LeBron backed him down.
Stepback fadeaway—
Clank.
Kyle rebounded.
Pushed the break.
He gave it up to Tatum, got it back—baseline drive, reverse layup.
Celtics up 2.
Next possession?
Bron came right back.
Pulled from DEEP—
Splash.
Lakers up 1.
Kyle inbounded with 14 seconds left.
He wasn't supposed to take the shot.
But the play broke.
He was isolated at the top.
Bron stood in front of him.
Kyle stared him down.
"You gonna block it?"
Bron grinned.
"Try me."
Kyle hesitated, dribbled, pulled back—
Stepback three.
Bang.
Garden lost its MIND.
Celtics up 2 with 1.9 seconds left.
Bron's final heave?
Miss.
Postgame – The Crown and the ScythePlayers shook hands.
Bron came to Kyle.
They embraced.
LeBron: "You got it, kid. You got the heart. That's what matters."
Kyle: "You're the reason I picked up a ball."
LeBron: "Then keep carrying it like this."
Media FrenzyESPN:
"Wilson stares down the King and wins. The Reaper has arrived."
Shannon Sharpe:
"Bron gave him the test, and that boy passed."
Skip Bayless:
"Okay… okay… I'll admit it—he's real. That kid's got ice in his veins."
Ari's Text"You stood in front of a King… and you didn't bow. I'm proud of you."
Kyle smiled.
Final Scene – The Journal ReturnsKyle pulled out his old notebook.
Next to "Reasons I Can't Lose", he scribbled:
Because the King saw me.
He shut the book.
And whispered:
"Witness the Reaper."
