Chapter 50: Reaper vs. Ant

Las Vegas Summer League — Cox Pavilion

Celtics vs. Timberwolves

Game 1: Kyle Wilson vs. Anthony Edwards

The gym was packed wall to wall.

Not just with fans—but agents, execs, YouTubers, podcasters, and front-office insiders. This wasn't a Summer League game. This was a preview of the next era.

Two names on everyone's tongue:

"Kyle Wilson. Boston's gamble."

"Anthony Edwards. The show."

Inside the tunnel, Kyle tugged on his green Celtics Summer League jersey. #13 across his chest. He bounced lightly on the balls of his feet, headphones blaring muted 808s. But his mind was louder.

His eyes scanned the floor. Media. Lights. Tension.

Then:

"LET'S GO, CELTICS!"

His team charged onto the court. Cameras followed. Phones filmed. Fans cheered—until a louder wave hit.

Anthony Edwards walked out in a Wolves jersey, grinning like he was born for this.

He immediately caught Kyle's eye.

Walked up.

Chest out.

Chin up.

"You ready to hoop or gonna give us another Kyonic commercial?"

Kyle stared deadpan.

"I'm ready to make your highlights look like bloopers."

They bumped shoulders on the way to warmups.

It was on.

FIRST HALF — Round One BeginsTip-off.

Celtics win the jump.

Kyle starts at the 3. He's got the ball on the first possession.

The crowd leans in.

He catches at the top of the key. Anthony slides up to him.

"Don't let the cameras get you nervous, mixtape."

Kyle jab-steps, then swings the ball to the weak side. Plays within the system. No hero ball.

Coach Vaughn yells from the sideline:

"MOVE, KYLE! SLASH!"

He cuts baseline—catches a no-look dime—and throws down a two-hand reverse dunk.

Boom.

2–0 Celtics.

Anthony comes down and calls for an iso.

Dribble. Cross. Cross.

Pull-up three from 27 feet.

Splash.

He taps his wrist like Dame Lillard.

"Time's ticking, Reaper."

Next possession: Kyle calls for a screen. Switch.

He gets a slower big on him—drives hard left—absorbs contact—and-1 finish off glass.

The crowd roars.

Anthony shakes his head, smiling.

"Aight. This might be fun."

Media Commentary – ESPN BroadcastJay Bilas (commentator):

"We're watching two very different types of greatness here. Anthony is explosive, electric, improvisational. Kyle? Methodical. Every movement matters. Every read calculated."

Doris Burke:

"What I love about Wilson's game is that nothing is wasted. No flash for flash's sake. And yet—he still gives you moments that leave your jaw on the floor."

Mid-1st Quarter – Physical War BeginsAnthony gets the ball in transition. Kyle backpedals.

Euro step. Shoulder bump. Kyle doesn't budge.

BLOCK.

Kyle swats it off the backboard and starts the break.

Three passes later, he's in the corner.

Catch. Shoot. THREE.

"Bang!" the announcer screams.

Celtics lead 14–10.

But Ant comes right back.

Baseline drive. Fake pass. Reverse dunk.

Then the talk begins.

"That's the difference, bro. You a brick wall. I'm air."

Kyle wipes sweat from his brow.

"Even air gets polluted."

Ari Watching From the SidelineAri sat in her "Kyonic Management" gear, front row. Press badge hanging off her shoulder. Her leg bounced nervously.

The Celtics assistant GM leaned over.

"You built one hell of a storm."

She smiled.

"That storm's just warming up."

Second Quarter – Struggle HitsKyle gets doubled.

His first turnover. Then another.

Misses a mid-range pull-up.

Anthony catches fire.

3.

Stepback 3.

Transition lay.

Suddenly the Wolves are up 42–35.

Coach Vaughn calls timeout.

Kyle breathes hard, towel around his neck.

Marcus texts:

"Calm the chaos. Reclaim it."

Kyle closes his eyes.

He remembers his mother.

Nichola Campbell.

Dead because of Chino's war.

He remembers the slums of Jamaica.

The hunger.

The gang threats.

The concrete courts.

He opens his eyes.

No fear.

Kyle doesn't panic.

He moves with surgical patience.

Pass. Cut. Read. Finish.

He lulls defenders into sleep before striking like a snake.

Ant hits another deep three.

"I run the league."

Kyle drives baseline and hits a no-look assist to his center for a dunk.

"You flash. I finish."

The two trade buckets for five straight possessions.

The crowd's volume rises to playoff levels.

Off the Court – NBA Eyes WatchingIn a private suite above the court, Celtics President Brad Stevens and Head Coach Ime Udoka watch silently.

Brad turns to Ime.

"We got something real here."

Ime nods.

"He's raw in some reads. But defensively? Already league-ready."

Brad smirks.

"And you see the chip on his shoulder?"

Ime:

"It's not a chip. It's a f***ing volcano."

FOURTH QUARTER – The FinishScore: Celtics 74 – Wolves 74

4 minutes left.

Both Kyle and Anthony are gassed but refuse to sit.

Every possession matters.

Kyle grabs a rebound over two defenders.

Pushes in transition.

"You too, highlight reel."

Postgame Interview – National AttentionReporter:

"Kyle, you just led the Celtics to a huge Summer League win and went toe-to-toe with the #1 pick. What's your message to the league?"

Kyle:

"I'm not chasing spotlight. I'm chasing impact. This ain't hype. It's proof."

Reporter:

"What's next?"

Kyle looks into the camera.

"The season. The league. And a new standard."

Ari's POV – Brand ExplosionThat night, Ari's phone went wild.

Kyonic orders sold out within 3 hours.

Calls from Foot Locker, Champs, and an offer from Complex for a feature.

She watched the game replay alone in the hotel.

Paused on Kyle's face after the game-winner.

"Told you," she whispered.

"You were never just another player."
