Chapter 82: Legendary Being! Reversing the Historical Long River

“飨女 is trying to use the Earth Serpent from the Wild History to transform into a Flood Jiao and become a Dragon, then devour this segment of history to condense a high-grade Ancient Talisman!”

A voice echoed from within the Ridge. A mass of shattered rocks tumbled down as Bo Rui emerged from within, spitting out a few pebbles without minding his injuries.

No wonder…

He had sensed that 飨女’s power far surpassed the peak of the Law Seed Stage, yet she lacked the Law Domain of an Ancient Talisman.

It turned out she had long since been capable of advancing, but had been suppressing her cultivation all along—just for this moment of harvest.

Zhou Li repelled Xiang Siyu’s attack with the Hand of the Earth Veins, speaking solemnly:

“[Flood Jiao Transforming into Dragon] requires following the Earth Veins and Water Veins, sweeping up a Great Mountain Flood, and finally converging into the sea. Yet Jinhua City has only one river system flowing into the sea—Qiantang River. When the time comes, Hangzhou will inevitably be affected.

The mountain and river Dragon Veins there are vast and have not been restrained. Once they erupt, they will unleash a monstrous flood, merging into the East Sea together.”

Although 飨女 was not at the Ancient Talisman level, she still summoned a Diseased Domain, multiplying the precipitation exponentially.

Moreover, the Dragon Transformation was a most unique ritual—like igniting the deadwood of the mountains, stirring up the essence of the mountain and river Dragon Veins on this land, compounding again and again until a vast tide rolled forth,

sweeping across the entire Jiangnan Province.

The Dragon-Transforming individual could only go with the flow within it, indirectly influencing the momentum to ensure they would not be thrown off.

When reaching the river mouth—that was the Dragon Gate—they would leap into the East Sea, devour the essence of the Vast Sea, shed their former body, and become a True Dragon.

Even though the Bureau of Historical Revision of Jiangnan Province was guarded by a Heavenly Official, while he could wreak equal havoc, he would struggle to halt a natural disaster—or repair the destroyed land.

Creation is far more difficult than destruction!

Zhou Li’s gaze was resolute, speaking in a deep voice: “Whether the Dragon Transformation succeeds or not, it will cause immense casualties. Even if I have to stake my life, I cannot allow the scene of a million floating corpses to appear in the real world.”

“Amitābha!”

Master Fale chanted the Buddha’s name, no longer hesitating. He reached out, swung the Moonlight Glazed Treasure Tree, and directly shattered the puppet monk who had been debating with him.

In that moment, his entire body rippled with bulging muscles, and the peaceful Buddha Heart within him was no more—only the wrathful Vajra visage remained. He said solemnly:

“If words fail, then this humble monk—besides being skilled in medical techniques—also happens to know a bit of martial arts!”

As for persuading someone to lay down their butcher’s blade and become a Buddha on the spot?

Persuade your damn mother!

That’s the job of an enlightened one like the Buddha.

His only job—was to send people to meet the Buddha!

Swish swish swish!

Bo Rui said not a word. His flying sword turned into a streak of rainbow light as he launched the first attack. Even if it cost him his life, he could not allow this Great Mountain Flood to submerge the myriad lights of Jiangnan.

While battling, Zhou Li called out to the people behind her:

“Most of you come from all over Jiangnan Province, young talents raised on this land. You joined the Bureau of Historical Revision because you were willing to correct history and guard this soil of the real world.

Though these words may be premature, time waits for no one—and disaster waits even less…”

“Now, the Bureau of Historical Revision and the people are putting you to the test!”

“We will hold off 飨女. You all must spare no effort—use every means to break out of Jiulong Mountain and seek reinforcements from the Bureau of Historical Revision. As long as the headquarters receives the message, they will dispatch a Heavenly Official in advance to suppress the mountain and river Dragon Qi, slay the Evil Jiao and 飨女, and restore order.”

“We’re counting on you!”

By the end of her words, Zhou Li’s voice carried a faint tremble—entrusting all hope to this group of young ones.

As her words fell, a voice rang out from the White Jade Disc:

“Tiantai Sub-Bureau, Shi Ju reporting—we’ve long been ready!”

Shi Ju’s gaze was steadfast. Behind him stood the neatly arrayed members of the Tiantai Division, who had already gathered together when 飨女 appeared.

His response, like a toppled domino, triggered a chain reaction as other voices followed.

“Yinzhou Sub-Bureau, Fu Zi reporting!”

“Wuzhou Sub-Bureau, Di Shengyi reporting!”

“Hangzhou Sub-Bureau, Ge Xianyao reporting!”

“Pan’an Sub-Bureau, Jiang Yan reporting!”

“……”

They all remained calm. Each had fought their way out of a Diseased Domain, geniuses who had weathered many calamities. No one panicked before the present disaster.

They quickly formed squads based on their respective sub-bureaus and elected the strongest among them as team leaders.

Everything proceeded in perfect order, without the slightest delay.

In the end, a total of 64 squads responded, coming from 11 prefecture-level cities, 20 county-level cities, and 33 counties in Jiangnan Province.

“Good! Good! Good!”

This scene brought comfort to Zhou Li, Bo Rui, and Master Fale.

The new generation of Jiangnan Province brimmed with boundless hope!

As the Director of the Tianxia Headquarters once said, the future belongs to these rising suns.

As long as they persevered like the Foolish Old Man who moved mountains, they believed that one day, these youths would reverse historical mutations and rewrite the course of time!

“Xiang Nu, go to hell!”

In that instant, the three peak Law Seed cultivators seemed as if they’d taken stimulants, launching a frenzied assault on Xiang Nu.

They were not only stopping the disaster, but also sowing the seeds of hope across the soil of Jiangnan Province.

Spells bombarded the area. Not a single thing within several kilometers survived—they were all blasted into dust!

“So insane…”

Even Xiang Nu could no longer smile. She felt the pressure, and after dying several times, she finally began to retaliate instead of letting herself be slaughtered.

Devouring history—even if it were only the history connected to oneself—came with a price.

Di Shengyi looked toward the distant battlefield and said:

“Next, we split into nine groups and search for exits along the nine Ridges. So what if it’s the Wild History Club? In the end, they’re just a bunch of rats hiding in the sewers.

Even if there are blades and flames ahead—I’ll wade through them! We’ll show them what the Bureau of Historical Revision is made of!”

After speaking, Di Shengyi formed a hand seal. In an instant, frost spread, and a howling wind swept across several squads.

A unique black ice crystal storm barrier formed, circulating like the shell of a Black Tortoise.

‘Spell Art—Mystic Nether Wind!’

“Everyone, follow me forward!”

Di Shengyi led several squads, charging toward the northern Ridge.

It wasn’t because he had a premonition that the exit was there.

Nor was it because the northern side was the weakest point. Rather…

It was the closest to the battlefield of the four peak Law Seed cultivators—and therefore the most dangerous.

“Hmph, that guy actually got a head start.”

Ge Xianyao snorted coldly. The earth rumbled beneath his feet as dozens of Wooden Tendrils intertwined, taking on the form of an Azure Dragon.

With arms crossed, he stood atop the dragon’s head. The Wooden Dragon’s body lifted several squads behind him as it surged toward the northeastern Ridge, running parallel with Di Shengyi.

At that moment, the sky was overcast, and the temperature dropped sharply. A biting wind lashed his face, and in his mind echoed a question his father had once asked:

“You are like a great medicine—what is the purpose of your life?”

His father’s eyes were always filled with sorrow when they looked upon him.

Born with a Spiritual Body—both a blessing and a curse.

“To stand atop the transcendent peak—and to save all beings.”

Beneath a tree, the young Ge Xianyao who had meditated for months answered without hesitation.

Only by becoming the strongest could he cut the mutation at its root and save all living beings.

As for whether those he saved would be grateful—what did that matter to him?

That was his pride!

“Those two... still competing at a time like this!”

Shi Ju complained with his mouth, but his body was honest—he chose the northwestern Ridge, close to the other two.

He, Shi Ju, was no coward!

Zhang Guanxin had originally wanted to find Zhao Yinman and open a path with Talismans together, but after looking around, he couldn’t find her—she must’ve been placed in another squad!

Clang! Clang! Clang!

There was no time to think. He quickly rang the Five Peaks Bell, summoned the Five Peaks Cavalry, and set off with the other geniuses, heading for the southern Ridge.

The 64 squads quickly split into nine routes, each breaking through along one of the nine Ridges.

Brilliant spell-light illuminated the way, like the unique Dragon Lanterns of the Jinhua region, rapidly dispelling the darkness and lighting up the Ridges, as though giving life to them.

The Dragon lies not in form, but in intent.

At that moment, Jiulong Mountain came alive!

“Human nature is the most despicable, yet also the most radiant among the stars. You all are so delicious, I’m moved to tears just watching…”

Seated atop the Scarlet Mouth, Xiang Nu raised a hand, wiped the edge of her mouth behind the paper, and chuckled:

“But, a banquet needs dancers—just don’t steal the spotlight!”

Boom rumble rumble!

The nine Ridges trembled non-stop. Deep within the Earth Veins, something stirred. The ground cracked open as humanoid beings coated in mud crawled out.

They had snake heads and human bodies, with gray skin. Coiled around them were many dark golden chains embedded in their flesh—these chains had begun to exhibit dragon-like traits, growing whiskers and faintly emanating Dragon Roars.

Each stood ten meters tall, like a small mountain—giants akin to those in legends. Nine of them blocked the ends of the nine Ridges, radiating immense auras.

They seemed to be… Mid-stage Foundation Establishment!

“These are mutated historical beings—the remains of the Descendants of Longbo, and it looks like they’ve been tainted with Earth Serpent blood. I see now.”

Zhou Li, who followed the Earth-elemental path, immediately recognized their origins.

According to the Western Jin’s “Accounts of Marvels: Biography of the Strange,” the Longbo People were legendary beings said to be a thousand meters tall with lifespans of eighteen thousand years. They once caught six Divine Ao turtles with fishing rods, causing five Sacred Mountains to sink, enraging the Heavenly Emperor, who punished them by shrinking their bodies—eventually leaving them only dozens of meters tall.

Even in their reduced form, they were still legendary beings capable of Moving Mountains and Filling Seas.

The current Descendants of Longbo were likely hybrid bastards born from related Wild Histories, turned into puppets after being hunted by Xiang Nu.

They were giants tied to earth and mountain—also walking the path of Wu Earth. They were the best vessels for the power of Earth Veins.

Because ordinary beings could not absorb Earth Vein power directly, it required purification through burial in a lake according to the Feng Shui formation of Nine Dragons Offering the Pearl.

Hence, Zhou Li and others had only focused on the Earth Veins deep within the lakes. They didn’t expect… Xiang Nu would go the opposite route—burying the Descendants of Longbo deep in the Ridges, intercepting the essence of the land.

Like a person’s blood vessels being clogged, not fully blocked, but long enough—and something was bound to go wrong.

In addition, the Earth Serpent from Wild History tales was formed from the essence of the land. After polluting numerous corpses with its own blood, it concealed its aura, and over a long period of time, merged entirely with the land.

Even those at the Ancient Talisman level would be unable to detect it.

Only a Heavenly Official deeply versed in the Dao of Earth might perceive it.

The “dragon scales” that locals reported seeing at fixed intervals were in fact…

Serpent scales!

Anomalies born from the rhythm of the Earth Veins.

“Though they have the physique of Mid-stage Foundation Establishment, they have not implanted Elemental Qi aligned with any path. Their actual combat power is equivalent to Beginner Law Seed Stage!”

At this point, even Zhou Li couldn't help but smile bitterly.

Among these geniuses, the strongest was only at the peak of Foundation Establishment. Facing Beginner Law Seed head-on was indeed asking too much.

“Law Seed—Eternal Night Bone-Eroding Netherwind!”

A black wind surged, blowing across the snake-headed Longbo giant on the northern Ridge. The flesh, hard as granite, was instantly corroded, revealing glistening metallic-white bones beneath.

“Hiss—”

The searing pain forced it into a long serpentine hiss. Its body staggered backward, and before it could regain footing, a barrage of spell arts came crashing down.

Suffering consecutive heavy blows, it toppled backward violently, slamming into the ground, kicking up a storm of dust and sand.

“Brain-dead, spell-less Beginner Law Seed—this is all it amounts to.”

Di Shengyi sneered, though his internal Foundation, [Eternal Night Gale Foundation], had been nearly drained of spiritual energy from activating his Law Seed.

Elsewhere, on the northeastern Ridge, dozens of half-meter-thick roots burst from the ground, winding around the legs and feet of the snake-headed Longbo giant. Behind it, a massive head formed of Wooden Tendrils Azure Dragon opened its maw and bit down on the neck.

The crushing force, strong enough to shatter gold and jade, left only shallow bite marks on the creature’s skin.

“That's tough hide!”

Ge Xianyao chuckled, then controlled the [Power of Four Seasons] to begin corrupting the Earth Vein power within its body, transforming it into Wood Qi.

Weeds and trees began to sprout from its gray skin. Its body turned woody, greedily absorbing the Earth Vein nutrients.

Among the Five Phases, Wood overcomes Earth!

Forcibly weakening the enemy!

But in the next second, the snake-headed Longbo giant raised its head and roared, shattering the Wooden Tendrils Azure Dragon into a storm of splinters.

It thrust out a massive palm and slammed down. The earth quaked, and enormous earth spikes burst forth, sweeping toward Ge Xianyao and his group.

“Jia Wood Hell!”

Ge Xianyao reacted swiftly, summoning a forest of trees that transformed into a dense grove, forming a special prison.

But now, it became a defensive shield.

Yet, at the moment of contact, the earth spikes easily tore through it, extending a rift dozens of meters long and a zhang wide, vanishing into the abyss.

Fortunately, the Wood Escape bought them time to evade, and Zhou Li also managed to weaken the Earth Vein power.

Otherwise…

Ge Xianyao and the others would’ve been wiped out in one strike!

Di Shengyi wasn’t faring much better. He panted heavily, having believed that two consecutive Law Seed activations would finish the enemy.

Shhh!

But the snake-headed Longbo giant slowly stood back up. Its injuries healed rapidly, and in the blink of an eye, it had recovered from grievous wounds to mere light damage.

The source was the vast Earth Vein Qi of Jiulong Mountain. As long as it remained grounded, it could continually absorb and regenerate.

“Hiss hiss!”

Its slender serpent head twisted and coiled, opening its mouth to exhale a dense grayish-purple mist. Wherever it passed, all plants petrified into lifelike wooden sculptures.

“Watch out!”

Di Shengyi and the others quickly retreated, casting spells in defense, but they shattered easily.

A few who couldn’t run fast enough looked on in despair as the mist closed in.

Boom!

A massive stone tablet came hurtling through the air, landing before them and blocking the petrifying poison mist.

“Petrifying poison mist can corrode other elements into stone—then let’s use stone to block it. Just remember, ordinary rocks have too many impurities. Use thick stone walls instead.”

Shi Ju’s voice echoed from afar. He had already deciphered the mist’s weakness and continued hurling stone walls to aid other squads.

“Thanks!”

Di Shengyi called out his thanks, but as he stared at the towering snake-headed Longbo, he felt a deep sense of helplessness.

Such monsters linked to Earth Veins could only be defeated by overwhelming power or severing their link to the Earth Veins.

For example… Lawbreaker!

“Right, how’s Jiang Yan’s breakthrough going?”

Thinking of his former strongest rival, Di Shengyi couldn't help but feel hopeful. But scanning the surroundings, he saw…

The snake-headed Longbo giant punching Jiang Yan into pieces.

“What!?”

Everyone was stunned—not because Jiang Yan was defeated, but because the shattered “Jiang Yan” turned into a humanoid Talisman, fluttering through the air.

Among them was also Zhao Yinman, reduced to a similar Talisman.

Zhang Guanxin murmured, “Substitute Talisman!”

No one had expected that the Jiang Yan and Zhao Yinman who had charged out with them were fakes.

“Where did they go?”

They didn’t believe the two had run away. Jiulong Mountain was sealed off. If escape were possible, they would’ve called the Bureau of Historical Revision to crush Xiang Nu already.

Most likely, they were elsewhere.

But there was no sign of them in the Law Seed battlefield.

Nor along the other Ridges.

“Could it be…”

Ge Xianyao and Di Shengyi exchanged complex looks and raised their heads toward the Tributary of the Historical Long River.

In that rust-colored dust-formed river of time, civilizations perished, time decayed, and all human and heavenly principles collapsed.

Yet within that terrifying river, a solitary black-and-red boat drifted.

Jiang Yan stood upon the Coffin Spirit, hands clasped behind his back, Tiger-Dragon Qi swirling about him, escorting Zhao Yinman against the current.

Their destination—

The Dragon-Transforming Diseased Domain!
