The Boundless Expanse(An Epic System Apocalypse LitRPG)

Chapter 666

His Dao Seed core was like a raging sun within him, filled with so much anger and the desire for revenge that he could feel the heat on a physical level. As he reached the apex of his arc, he poised himself above his foe.

The air began to warp, dozens of Veilguards flickering out of the void to stand beneath him. Sam's vision split until he couldn't see what he was looking at anymore.

Rather than balk, he started charging up Manifestation of Vengeance. A thin skin of ultra compressed power surrounded Terra's Will. The weapon sank into the fabric of reality, the air around it pushed away by the sheer conceptual might contained within it. Sam let out a wordless howl, and brought it down.

A canyon opened up in the air, a vacuum forming as a lance of plasma blasted out of Terra's Will. The fake Veilguards shattered in front of the might of the Primal skill. Earlier in the battle, this level of power would have been impossible, but now that Sam could channel the pain of having his body nearly cleaved in twain, he could reach previously impossible levels of strength.

The core of the technique consisted of a pencil thin beam capable of punching through tectonic plates. With an unerring homing effect, fueled by Sam's own desire for vengeance, none of the monster's illusions could do anything to save it. Against something like that, the Veilguard was forced to leave behind its illusions and fight like a real cultivator. At least, what Sam thought a real cultivator to be.

The Veilguard crossed its arms. Another set of arms unfolded. Then another and another, each one coming faster than the last. Soon, a thousand were layered one on top of the other. Each of them broke away from the monster's body and took on a silvery hue, like that of metal. Before any more could appear, Sam's attack hit home.

It punched through the first five hundred arms like they were made of paper, but started to slow down as it continued on its path. Another two hundred disappeared, turning into fragments of glassy energy that quickly faded away. The remaining three hundred posed more of a challenge though.

Sam didn't just hover there like some arrogant young master, lifted from the pages of a stereotypical cultivation novel. Instead he teleported to the back of the Veilguard, gathering up the remainder of his might. He often underestimated the remainder of his power, but in this case, all he would be left with afterwards was enough for a few teleports to escape if anything went wrong.

The portal continued to open, but dealing with the Veilguard was the only way that Sam was going to be able to stop it properly. He brought Terra's Will up as Manifestation of Vengeance forced its way through the last few arms. It was greatly weakened at this point, but it hardly mattered. A second Manifestation of Vengeance exploded out of Terra's Will. Both of them punched through the monster's flesh. With a mournful cry, the Veilguard was blasted apart. It died with little ceremony, merely a cloud of shimmering dust that quickly faded away. Sam leveled up twice.

Up above, the portal continued to pulse like a third eye. Sam ascended on the wings of his Dao, teleporting next to it. Winds of pure aura pressure buffeted him like a hurricane. They were so strong that he started to lose health just by being in proximity to the emerging C Ranker. If he didn't act soon, he wouldn't be able to.

Sam slammed his hammer into the side of the serpentine portal, battering the fused elemental flesh into submission. He was still too slow. Roaring in frustration, he reached for his Dao, but there was none left to give. His Fragments were all that remained. He drew upon them, but compared to the oceans of power that his Seed contained, they were like bathtubs.

His hammer pulsed with a pathetically weak light as he drove it once more into the side of the portal. The sides continued to fracture, but the Dreamer's claw was almost completely through. The monster's aura was unbearable at this point, like a storm compressed down into a single point. Sibilant whispers started to tug at the edges of Sam's hearing, coming from the center of the swirling pink eye.

The claw started to turn, pointing towards him. A tiny dot of compressed Dream elemental energy formed before it. Reality fragmented around the attack, cracks spreading across the world. Behind them, thousands of horrors clawed at the gaps between realities, trying to get to Sam.

Screaming in exertion, Sam drove his hammer into the portal one last time. With a clattering bang, the portal exploded, the sides destabilizing. The rift in space snapped shut. Only, the claw remained.
