He teleported, only to find a loop of roseate flame curling around his leg just before he stepped through the portal. A sludge-like mound of congealed flesh and flaming blood rose from the remains of the cult leader, eyes forming all across its body. It let out a piercing scream and hurled Sam towards the fortress behind. Whatever this thing was, it was far different from the woman whose flesh made it up. Its strength was ungodly, accelerating Sam to escape velocity in the blink of an eye. He slammed into the tower like a comet, the stone breaking around his body.
His momentum decreased as he broke through the incredibly large edifice, but he couldn't afford to wait. The initial strike had shaved off about a quarter of his health, but he wasn't planning on being struck by another. Just before he could move, a spinning orb of condensed Dream energy streaked through the tunnel stretching out to the air. So dense was its power that it interrupted his teleportation. Sam cursed and summoned the power that he would have used to teleport, creating a shield before him.
The shield bent before the strike, but ultimately held. Sam teleported before he could be interrupted again. He popped out in the open air, watching as crumbling blocks of stone plummeted towards the raging sea below. Ignoring the reanimated cultist, Sam headed for the clouds. He could see Elvras in the distance doing the same. The king's urumi was immensely enlarged by a sheath of compressed water. It shone in the pink light of the flaming eye above, casting a profound glow upon the world below.
Elvras swung his weapon, the metal whip carving through the outside of the eye. The entire structure of the summoning portal dimmed by a small amount. One of the serpents turned its ephemeral eyes at Elvras. With a ringing chime, the portal that made up the center of the eye lit up once more. A humanoid shape emerged from the dimensional rift, its body packed so tightly with power that the air around it rippled as if in a heat haze. Sam scanned it immediately.

Dreamer Veilguard(Elite)
Level 249
It was a peak E Ranker, and a strong one at that. Perhaps even as strong as Sam himself.
The creature slammed its hands together. A tiny tear in reality opened between them and a shimmering sword emerged. It was shaped like a wave, and covered in spines. The entire blade looked to be made out of some sort of bone. The weapon radiated barely contained might, almost eclipsing that of its wielder. It was as if the armament had been wrought from the body of a god. For the first time in a while, Sam was curious enough to scan the weapon of one of his foes.
Lost Bone of the Dreamer
Half Step D Rank Weapon
This sword is crafted from the congealed conceptual energy that makes up the physical form of the deep astral dweller known as the Dreamer. A C Ranker in its full form, this tiny fragment of the being nevertheless contains enough power to nearly be considered a D Rank weapon. Beware of its wielder, and more importantly, beware of the blade itself.
The Dreamer Veilguard slashed the weapon across the air. With a creaking boom, as if an entire forest were falling at once, the world split. Out of the rift charged a thunderous cavalcade of illusions, some of which were so densely packed with energy that they might as well have been real. Thousands of spectral soldiers, knights and monsters emerged from the portal, charging straight at Sam and Elvras.
The two warriors gathered their power and struck back. Sam's weapon whipped through the air as he sent his energy shooting down its hilt and into the weapon's head. Elvras' urumi swirled around the king like a whirlpool as he filled it with Water elemental energy. Then, like the tongue of a deep sea god, he sent it flying forwards.
The Veilguard stared impassively down at them as the sky broke. Legions of its illusions blotted out the heavens as they just kept coming. Thousands had turned to tens of thousands. Most of them were harmless, but there were enough potent energy manifestations woven into it that Sam had to pay attention.
