The Boundless Expanse(An Epic System Apocalypse LitRPG)

Chapter 653

"Ttthhheee hellllll?" Sam said, his words hideously drawn out.

He gritted his teeth, but before he could do anything, Jelrak struck hundreds of times. Those attacks did hurt, quite a bit. Shards of crystallized Time sliced through his armor and flesh, the metal rusting beneath them, and the flesh rotting. It was a unique, but highly effective means of fighting. Sam found himself quite impressed. However, now he had gotten the measure of his opponent.

Channeling the full weight of his three Daos into himself, Sam shattered the temporal chains binding his speed. His eyes flashed with power, and as Jelrak prepared to punch again, Sam reached out, and slammed his left fist into the cultivator's face.

The air imploded around the strike, and the mage's face shattered. A wave of force exploded out behind Jelrak, and his body followed, skipping across the ground. Sam followed him, Terra's Will rising. He could feel a few weak attempts to seize control of his temporal state sliding off his Dao. Sam scoffed.

A second later, he reached Jelrak, and brought his hammer down. A bow wave of cosmic light preceded it, his Dao pressing down upon the fabric of the world itself. Threads of Time, like a spider web, tried to stop him, but Jelrak's mastery of his element was too weak, too disparate at this point in the battle. Just before the hammer could hit, Jelrak teleported away, having surrendered. Sam discharged the blast into the air, a ray of light slicing off into the smog choked heavens above.

He smiled, so widely that it almost hurt. He finally had what he wanted. Jelrak hadn't been much of a fighter, but for a few brief moments, he had had Sam on the ropes.

The first treasure didn't appear for another hour. Sam and his friends kept going, but there hadn't been another cultivator yet. Instead, they had to contend with a problem that was quite rare for an E Ranker. Wasting time. The realm that the System had conjured seemingly from the void was vast for the time frame provided, almost too vast. They needed three treasures each, or nine in total.

Their first was found ensconced in a massive cave on the side of one of the volcanoes, a gleaming gemstone set into the rock itself. It was a ruby the size of a human head, with every facet taking the ambient light and turning it into what seemed to be fire. As they neared, it became clear that it actually was fire that danced across the surface of the gemstone, forming out of the ether as the stone channeled the power of that element.

For a hundred feet around it, the air was as hot as a blast furnace. Glakassa had to coat herself in a layer of ice to approach without harm. The Overlord ended up retrieving the stone, quickly wresting it from its rocky plinth. As it came free, the entire mountain shuddered. Cracks spread up and down the peak, and veins of fiery energy filled those cracks. With a shuddering boom, the volcano burst apart, a plume of lava shooting up into the atmosphere.

Building sized chunks of rock flew like missiles through the skies, landing with world shaking thuds in the vicinity of a few miles. As the mountain came apart entirely, a hand larger than most football fields forced its way out of the crumbling caldera. It was black scaled, and tipped with vicious claws whose edges tugged at the light itself.

The rest of the body emerged in a few seconds, revealing a demonic entity about the same size as one of the Titans. Only, its power was near the peak of E Rank, rather than the beginning.

Eruption Demon(Elite)

Level 245

The monster let out a roar, waves of force and flame buffeting the ground. Glakassa formed a dome of ice around the group, but it quickly melted through. Sam was forced to take up the slack, and a half dome of shimmering Dao energy warded off the rest of the assault.

"You invade this land, and steal the only memory I have of my family?" the demon roared. "I will grind your bones to powder and vapoize your blood. Then, when you are nothing more than molten slag, you will join the lifeblood of my volcano!"

"Thats… a descriptive threat," Sam deadpanned. "Can you back it up?"
