A Blunt Sword and a Broken-hearted Villager

Ch. 18

Chapter 18 The Dawn of Survival

The situation on site, for Bray, could be described as inexplicable.

What were those black-armored knights? No idea.

Why did everyone appear in this place? No idea.

The only thing he knew was——

Things were very bad.

“Eek ahhhhhh!!!!” Virginia, feeling someone pat her shoulder, immediately screamed.

In this state, it was completely impossible to associate her with the Virginia of ordinary days.

“Calm down.”

Bray's hand on Virginia's shoulder could clearly feel her fear.

“Bray… Bray… so scary!!! Ahhhhh!!” Virginia looked at Bray with teary eyes.

She had finally managed to stop screaming, but she was now speaking incoherently.

“Even a useless fish like you was teleported here?”

Blanche glanced at Bray.

“Teleported?” Bray's brows furrowed.

“Yes, the patterns on those stone bricks are all teleportation arrays.”

Blanche said in a deep voice.

The entire ruin, the exquisite patterns on every brick, were all miniaturized teleportation arrays, with this arena as the destination.

God knows what the builders of the ruin were thinking.

If it was to set up a trap to harm people, this was clearly a waste and superfluous.

There were far more powerful ways to kill people without taking responsibility.

To go through so much trouble to accurately teleport everyone inside the ruin to this damned place, the meaning was unclear.

“Then there's no other way.”

“Huu…” Bray took a deep breath and drew the sword from his back.

“What are you trying to do?”

Blanche looked at Bray with confusion.

“What else can I do, go up there.”

Bray stood up from his squatting position and glanced at Blanche.

“Don't tell me you think I've unleashed my primordial power and can single-handedly take on those damn things?”

“You will die!!!” Blanche said very seriously.

“If I don't struggle, I'll still die.”

Bray seemed to remember something and touched his eyepatch.

Bray's words made Blanche fall silent at once.

However, in the end, Blanche still didn't have the courage to make the same choice as Bray.

Blanche remained sitting on the ground, blocking in front of Virginia.

But Bray did not blame Blanche.

Out of a full two thousand adventurers, only a few hundred had the courage to stand up and fight.

Everyone knew that without struggling, the result was still death.

Unfortunately, knowing did not mean having such resolve.

Well, Bray didn't think he was going up to fight because his resolve was high either.

Perhaps it was… he didn't want to die in such a pathetic way?

“You take good care of Virginia.”

Bray patted Blanche's head.

Blanche was stunned for a moment, then nodded.

---

Bray was no hero capable of fighting a thousand.

His joining did not change the adventurers' disadvantage in the slightest.

Countless offensive spells landed on the black-armored knights, only causing minor damage.

“Schlick——”

A sword broke in two, and the owner of the sword met the same fate.

Blood filled the sky, but it did not tighten the nerves of anyone present.

They were already numb.

Since these adventurers had gathered to fight against these black-armored knights, this scene had happened again and again.

This amount of blood was insignificant compared to the pool of blood on the ground.

“Haaaahhh!!!!” A seemingly strong warrior used all his strength and chopped down at a black-armored knight whose armor was beginning to shatter.

“Peng!!!!!”

If you're going to cut, cut the head! With this creed in mind, the warrior blew the black-armored knight's head off with one sword strike.

The dark helmet flew into the air, revealing the face that had been covered.

The next moment, the scene became incredibly silent.

It was undoubtedly a human face——

But, the skin that was almost clinging to the skull, the two eye sockets without eyeballs, the mouth sealed with thin threads, all seemed to be stating the fact that these black-armored knights were not human.

“Don't be stunned!!!” Nisha roared.

In the brief moment that everyone was stunned, a black-armored knight killed two adventurers and broke through the front line.

“Damn it!!!! The people in the back row can't even block half a move!!!!”

A frontline adventurer shouted.

In fact, even if he didn't say it, everyone knew this fact.

But the problem was that no one could stop this black-armored knight!!!!

“Ding——”

Sparks flew, and then Bray was sent flying, crashing hard against a pillar.

But Bray was not dead.

Bray's hands were numb, and he looked at the 「Final Echo」 in his hand.

As expected, it wasn't some divine artifact. On that armor, not even a white mark was left.

But what Mira said was not wrong at all.

Its texture was extremely hard, truly worthy of being the sword Barossa used to cut strange things.

After the black-armored knight broke through the front line just now, Bray was the first to react.

Or rather, Bray had not been stunned from the very beginning.

Bray actually also found it very strange.

Adventurers should have seen all sorts of strange things, why did they freeze up just by seeing this face that was neither human nor ghost?

Bray, who had reacted, rushed in front of the black-armored knight, attempting to block its steps.

But unfortunately, Bray was still not strong enough.

Rubbing his sore back, Bray steadied himself.

At the critical moment, Bray successfully made the black-armored knight pause for a step.

And that gave Nisha a chance to stand in front of the black-armored knight!

Nisha glanced at Bray gratefully, then glared at the black-armored knight in front of her.

The front line had been reorganized.

The problem was this black-armored knight that had charged in.

Not a single word of nonsense was spoken.

There was no meaning in talking to these monsters.

Nisha held a large shield in her left hand, pushing it against the black-armored knight's body.

Her right hand's knightly longsword, with overwhelming momentum, fiercely chopped towards its head.

「Judgment Strike」!

Magical power flowed, and the knightly longsword easily destroyed the black-armored knight's helmet.

The black-armored knight took a few steps back, then slammed its shield towards Nisha.

Nisha, unhurriedly, raised her shield to parry.

The two, holding sword and shield, continuously exchanged blows.

The collision of metal produced sparks that flew all around.

No adventurer was foolish enough to intervene in this battle.

Any action that disturbed Nisha's rhythm could lead to Nisha's defeat.

The adventurers with insufficient strength could only continue to block the black-armored knights at the front line——

Blocking with their lives.

Nisha was expressionless, her knightly longsword in hand cutting into every gap in the enemy's shield.

「Holy Light Shine」!!!

The black-armored knight, illuminated by the light that suddenly shone from Lina's shield, had its head begin to burn with blue flames.

“As expected of an evil thing!!!” Nisha shouted angrily.

Nisha, who believed in the 「Son of Light」, had a powerful suppressive force against evil things.

「Sword of Sanction」!!!!!!

The knightly longsword swept past, briefly leaving a white afterimage in the air.

And then the black-armored knight's head flew high, burning with raging blue flames.

The headless black-armored knight seemed to have lost all its strength as well, and fell limply to the ground.

The heavy black iron armor made a dull thud on the ground.

This sound echoed in the arena, and in the ears of the surviving adventurers, it was as pleasant as heavenly music.

“Adventurers with means against evil things!!! Quick, attack the head!!!” Nisha stepped on the back of the fallen black-armored knight, raising her longsword high.

The adventurers who received the tip all took out their means against evil things.

They finally obtained a fighting strength that was on par with the black-armored knights.

Although the adventurers were still falling one by one, similarly, the black-armored knights also gradually suffered casualties.

After five black-armored knights had fallen, the adventurers saw the dawn of victory.

“Hold on!!! We can win!!” Even Nisha's perpetually tense face revealed a smile.
