Ghost Compendium

Chapter 117: Ghost Compendium Unsealed!

"So, is this the truth?"

Crack—

At this moment, there was a huge crack on the Nightmare-infused, altered LCD TV.

Accompanied by more cracks appearing, the supernatural object let out mournful wails as the ten-minute limit had already passed. The game controller turned to dust in Wu Liang's mumbling and scattered with the wind.

Consciousness then returned to his original body, slowly opening his eyes in the ghost taxi.

Wu Liang felt a bit dazed.

He subconsciously touched his cheek, only to realize that at some point, his face had become covered in tears.

"Limbless Ghost... Giant Ghost... People who know about the Ghost Compendium become Fierce Ghosts after they die?"

Only now did Wu Liang truly understand why the Ghost Compendium couldn't be revealed to others—

People eventually die.

Which means every additional person who knows about the Ghost Compendium creates a future world with another Fierce Ghost whose abilities cannot be predicted, because everyone's unfulfilled wish is different.

"No wonder... sometimes my way of thinking defies logic, it was to avoid this?"

Although he didn't know why he had forgotten this memory, his subconscious continued to instinctively make everyone believe "Wu Liang" was just an ordinary person.

That's why the seemingly redundant creation of "Wu Ming" happened, the identity of "Wu Liang" must have nothing to do with the Ghost Compendium or any supernatural activities!

He disliked being in a group.

Subconsciously wanting to escape He Zhan's second team's joyful laughter, aside from a reclusive personality since childhood, it was because someone once died because of him.

He feared such things happening again!

All the seemingly illogical parts actually had their reasons.

"Ah~ have we arrived?"

The Zodiac Rabbit suddenly woke up from the back seat, stretching with a yawn and asked.

Noticing no one responded, she rubbed her eyes and looked over at Wu Liang, immediately noticing something unusual: "Eh? You're crying? Did you have a nightmare too?"

Hearing her voice, Wu Liang felt a sense of being pulled back to reality from a distant world.

He took a couple of deep breaths, raised his hand to wipe away his tears, and tried to speak as calmly as possible:

"Yeah, I dreamed of a departed friend."

A friend who wasn't highly educated but loved to read, who longed for light even in darkness, kind enough to try and patch up this troubled world.

Zodiac Rabbit seemed to hear the intense sadness hidden beneath Wu Liang's seemingly calm tone and didn't probe further.

The two of them sat silently in the taxi, watching as the scenery around them became more familiar.

Finally, they stopped right in front of the official building.

"We've arrived, let's get off."

Opening the car door, Wu Liang stepped out of the taxi relieved, the golden noon sunlight of the Capital City spread over him, warmth gradually appearing.

He looked up for a moment.

It was just like the sunlight that shone down when the homeless man broke into the library—warm and dazzling.

Dong—

The Ghost Compendium in his mind emitted a clear sound, like the echo of a shackle breaking and falling to the ground.

Wu Liang instantly felt his connection to the Ghost Compendium becoming tighter.

Now, even if his spiritual power was still completely suppressed, he could manipulate the Ghost Compendium freely without circumventing the Zodiac Rabbit's restriction.

Most importantly—the emotional suppression vanished!

"So this is the real me, the one with emotions," Wu Liang murmured.

"What are you talking about?" The Zodiac Rabbit jumped off the car, shoving the cash she had taken out back into her pocket.

She was about to pay the driver, but the driver told her Wu Liang had already paid, shut the door, and quickly sped off down the road.

"Nothing, let's head upstairs."

Wu Liang walked ahead, with the Zodiac Rabbit following closely with a curious glance.

She felt like this guy changed after getting out of the car.

But she couldn't quite pinpoint what exactly had changed, it was really strange.

They just entered the elevator when Wu Liang was about to press the button for the thirtieth testing floor, the Zodiac Rabbit stopped him and pressed the number 32 instead.

Watching her nearly jump up to press the button made Wu Liang almost burst out laughing, but his strong desire to survive helped him control his emotions.

"Starting tomorrow, go to the thirtieth floor around noon to see Teacher Guo every day, I'll first show you the dormitory so you don't get lost."

This was something Wu Liang hadn't expected.

He thought this entire building was used solely for office work, but it surprisingly had accommodations?

"By the way, why do you call that old man 'Teacher Guo'? I heard others call him Professor?"

He had already noticed this before.

Zodiac Rabbit watched as the elevator slowly reached the thirty-second floor, walked out while looking for the room number, and casually replied: "Because I'm part of the research department, he's my teaching instructor."

"Huh?"

Wu Liang was stunned.

He thought Zodiac Rabbit was like Minister Long and Sister Yang, independent of the Official Awakened deployment, but she turned out to be a researcher?

Leading Wu Liang to a room marked with the number 225, Zodiac Rabbit motioned for him to press the fingerprint recognition lock and casually asked: "By the way, what happened to that supernatural object earlier? I'll take it to the research institute's materials library later."

"It's gone, it broke."

Wu Liang took a handful of dust from his pocket and placed it in her hand, opened the fingerprint lock, and peeked into the room.

The interior was quite simple, about fifty square meters, with all the necessary furniture and equipment.

It looked like a standard room equipped for all Awakened from out-of-province attending training at the Beijing Headquarters, pretty thoughtful.

"Tao, this is who I just mentioned! He indeed came from the same rural area as that foreigner! The rooms are right next to each other!"

An abrupt voice interrupted Wu Liang, who was planning to enter the room to take a look around.

He immediately turned sideways to glance down the corridor.

Not far away, a room door was opened, and two men were standing outside.

The tall, lanky one Wu Liang didn't recognize, but wasn't the short, small one the same guy he had beaten up in the parking lot earlier that morning?

Before that so-called "Brother Tao" could speak, Wu Liang instinctively blurted out:

"Hmm? Why is this Potato Mine indoors? Isn't it supposed to be planted in the garden to protect Crazy Dave?"

"You!"

Hearing Wu Liang call him Potato Mine again, the short guy was about to explode with anger.

Just as he was about to fly into a rage, the tall, lanky man stopped him, arrogantly frowning: "Friend, I'm Ren Tao, I heard you hit Xiaojiang for no reason, are you refusing to apologize?"

Listening to him immediately demand an apology without any intention of asking what happened.

Wu Liang wasn't used to these privileged types, bluntly continuing to dish out trash talk:

"Exactly, he hit my hand so hard with his face, it's a bit swollen, I haven't asked for medical expenses and emotional damage yet, are you going to pay?"

"Hah, sharp-tongued thing, calling you 'friend' was meant to avoid making enemies, do you have to be so aggressive? As expected, only troublemakers come from poor mountains and harsh waters!" Ren Tao was also a bit angry, even hitting back with a broad insult.

Wu Liang had heard beforehand that Awakened in the Capital City somewhat looked down on those coming from other provinces for training at the headquarters.

But he truly hadn't expected them to start with such a highly insulting statement like "only troublemakers come from poor mountains and harsh waters".

The atmosphere in the corridor suddenly became tense.
