"EUREKA!!!!"
Normally, the Lotus Palace was the epitome of serenity and tranquility. Everyone understood that, so none dared to make noise there.
There were severe punishments for doing so.
But today was different.
A loud shout shook the entire Lotus Palace, breaking many students' concentration. All of them were annoyed, yet the shouting continued.
"EUREKA!!"
With a swoosh, Kai appeared on the wooden bridge, his face no different than any other day. Still, one could notice the faint frown creasing his brows.
He stopped in front of the charred man before him and narrowed his eyes. Then he spoke calmly, "What happened to you, my good man? And why are you shouting like a madman?"
Torn clothes, face charcoal black, hair standing on end and filled with dust—he looked like a beggar knocking on someone's door for spare change.
If it weren't for his golden eyes, even Kai wouldn't have recognized him. Not unless he checked his energy signature.
"Kai! I did it!" Aegon shouted in excitement, his smile dripping with pure joy. "I finally did it!"
Kai raised an eyebrow, suspicion crossing his mind as he said, "Let's talk inside. This is not the place to discuss such matters, and it isn't good to disturb others, my good man."
Realizing what he was doing, Aegon scratched the back of his head. "I'm sorry. I forgot about the location in my excitement."
"You'll be punished nonetheless, but please come. Let's talk about the reason for your excitement over a cup of tea," Kai said before glancing at Aegon's appearance. "But the man thinks you should clean yourself first, my good man. You look utterly homeless."
"You don't seem too surprised," Aegon said, still smiling from ear to ear.
"The man is also a RuneMaster, so he understand the sentiment," Kai replied with a calm smile and led him toward his private quarters.
There, Aegon took a long bath because he desperately needed it, not only to clean his body but also to calm his mind. He truly needed it since he knew this was a great invention, something that needed to be dealt with the utmost care.
As he soaked in the steaming water, he thought about his next step. After a minute of pondering, he grabbed his communication stone while still bathing in the hot spring. Surprisingly, even the Academy had built proper hot springs, which made him quite happy.
A few moments later, a sleepy and somewhat annoyed voice came from the other side.
[What is it, brat?]
"You're still sleeping?" Aegon rolled his eyes at the lazy old man's tone.
[It's my life. My house. My bed. I can sleep whenever I damn well want.]
"Tsk tsk! Why are you always so annoyed?" Aegon chuckled softly. "Is age finally catching up to you, eh, grumpy old man?"
[I can still bed ladies for a month straight without issue.]
"Old man, I know you're shameless, but stop talking about stuff like that!"
[You're well past sixteen, so it doesn't matter. Anyways, tell me what happened?]
"I'm just calling to ask about your well-being."
[Bullshit! In the last year, you called me three times. Three freaking times and every single time, you wanted a favor from me. We don't have that kind of relationship where you call to check up on me, so just spit it out already.]
"Hehe, so you're not completely senile yet," Aegon laughed and leaned back comfortably in the warm water. "I have good news to share, but that also means I need your help."
[That's more like it. Now out with it, what do you need help with this time?]
Aegon smiled. See? This old man was just a big tsundere. He always acted so indifferent about their relationship, but now he asked what help was needed before even asking what Aegon had created.
It was clear where his priorities lay.
Small actions revealed a lot about people.
"You're from the Imperial Family, right? That dirty old man from some bastard bloodline?"
[Do you want to die?]
"Just tell me, old man."
[You can say I have some ties with the Imperial Family.]
Aegon wasn't surprised at all because he had already guessed that a year ago. Grandpa Sam had informed the Emperor so quickly and had him take action too. Later, Aegon learned that the Imperial Family carried golden eyes, just like his, so it became easy to roughly guess the old man's identity.
"I've made something that I've been working on for a year. It's the foundation of many things I plan to create in the future, so I need its patent approved by the Royal Court," Aegon said calmly. "In return, I'll do something for you."
[Took a year? What the hell were you working on all this time?]
"As I said, it's the foundation of my future works, so I needed to do it myself. I can't have others make it," Aegon answered, then thought quietly to himself. 'And I also wanted to improve. Relying on others all the time is no good.'
[Now you've made me even more curious, Little Sun. You never bothered to patent your other creations, so this clearly means something special. What is it this time?]
"Because most other things can easily be copied, so making patents for them wasn't really worth the effort. Or whatever Xiu did, I didn't bother with it," Aegon shook his head and continued. "Anyway, I'll show you later, but promise me you'll handle this for me. I really need it because I spent my blood and sweat on this."
He clenched his bruised hand, and the water around him turned cold. "I want its monopoly."
[Haha! Wonderful! Little Sun, you don't know how happy I am today. Finally, you're showing some greed and possessiveness. You've been too damn passive before.]
Aegon had no retort to that because it was true. He really had been passive toward other things. He didn't care about wealth or recognition, so he was never possessive about his creations.
After all, the only reason he introduced other inventions into this world was to make life, his and others', more convenient. It didn't really matter to him who took credit or who handled the details.
"But this is different, Grandpa Sam," Aegon said, shaking off the icicles that had started forming around him. "It's different this time."
[And that's exactly why I'm so happy. You want a patent? Heh, consider it yours. Even without it, who dares to take your things, brat?]
Well, that was certainly true.
"Thanks again, Grandpa Sam. Come meet me whenever you have time. I'll show you my creation," Aegon said with a bright smile. "Now, I'm hanging up. I need to show it to my teacher too."
[I'll handle my side of things and be there in a few minutes.]
"But Dawn City is so far away?"
[I follow sunlight, boy. Never forget that.]
Aegon stared at the communication stone in confusion, even after the call had been cut. Then he shrugged it off and stood up from the water, stretching before changing into fresh clothes.
It was time to shock his teacher.
