In the end, Aegon ended up taking the bet, especially since he had nothing to lose, and he was also quite confident that he wouldn't marry he didn't truly love.
"Do whatever you want. I'll give you a chance because you seem interesting," Aegon said honestly. "But annoy me, and your chance is gone."
"Consider it done, future hubby!" Rosaline grinned widely and added, "Oh, just so you don't misunderstand, I'm not courting you because of your background, but because it's you."
"That's one of the reasons I'm allowing it, Miss Black Star," Aegon replied before turning toward Amon. "Are we really allowed to do all this?"
"Not my problem what you do with your class time," Amon responded casually. "The classes should be starting soon, so you can leave."
'Is he sick in the head?' Aegon was speechless, just like everyone else.
But soon, everyone sprinted toward their classes. The First Year Mage Class was heavily focused on learning and practical training, so every class was crucial.
Rosa skipped over beside Aegon, silently accompanying him to class, her mischievous smile never once leaving her enchanting face.
Aegon noted it well.
Soon, they entered the lecture hall, which was almost identical to the university lecture halls Aegon had seen back on Earth. With rising seats arranged like stairs facing the podium, clean walls, and bright colors, it looked surprisingly modern and fascinating for someone attending for the first time.
Aegon took a seat toward the back, having simple thoughts, 'So many backbencher memes… maybe I can make some memories like those too.'
[Host, why do you behave like a child sometimes?]
'Because I have a child's curiosity about everything.'
The class was already filled by then, sons and daughters of nobles and influential associations, all brimming with talent. Commoners who had earned their place through sheer hard work and talent. Everyone sat silently, waiting for the lecture to begin.
Aegon was quite pleased with his classmates, as he finally felt the attention shifting elsewhere. To become a true mage, one needed such concentration and curiosity.
And as one might expect, Rosaline came to sit beside Aegon, making him frown slightly but he didn't say anything for now.
'I hope she doesn't disturb me. Classes are important. Wait! Am I turning into a nerd?'
Soon, the lecturer, a man wearing a black hat and a long black coat, entered and began teaching without any delay, as if he didn't care who his audience was.
'This guy just wants to get his job done.'
He talked about the fundamentals for almost three hours straight. Many already knew the content, so they quickly grew bored.
But Aegon didn't. Like many others who were genuinely determined to become High Mages, he listened with full focus.
Fundamentals contained countless details that one easily forgot over time, often without even realizing it. The World made sure of it. Aegon had experienced that before, so he absorbed every word carefully.
And it turned out to be the right decision.
Once the lecture ended, Aegon sat there with his eyes closed, replaying everything in his mind. Indeed, he had forgotten many minor details or perhaps he had never known them properly but the lecture refreshed his understanding.
It felt as though the class had filled several gaps in his knowledge, even if many still remained.
'I need to attend these classes more often.'
A calm satisfaction washed over him, making him realize something important. His focus had remained steady throughout the lecture, something he didn't expect because of a certain someone.
'She didn't talk at all?' He was genuinely surprised. 'I guess I really shouldn't judge people from first impressions. She didn't become Black Star through luck, after all.'
Her face was still, thoughtful, as if lost in deep contemplation and Aegon found it more beautiful than ever.
All of a sudden, her eyes snapped open and her smile returned. She turned toward him, shifting closer. "Surprised that I didn't disturb you?"
"Kind of!" Aegon shrugged.
"Hehe! I wouldn't do that. After all, you don't like being disturbed while studying," Rosa giggled softly.
"That's a pretty basic deduction. But a good one," Aegon smiled and stood up.
"Do I get good points for it?"
"Probably!"
"Yee!" Rosa exclaimed happily, her eyes gleaming with genuine excitement. "Are you going to the Knight Class?"
"I almost forgot you also follow both pathways," Aegon muttered. "Impressive."
As someone who followed all three pathways, he knew exactly how difficult it was to maintain two at once, the sheer workload, time management, and mental strain required.
He began looking at Rosa in a new light admiration and appreciation flickering in his eyes.
"Does that add good points?" Rosa asked playfully.
"I like hardworking people," Aegon said, shrugging. "You clearly have talent, but you also work hard to live up to it. I respect that."
"Hehe!" Rosa giggled, completely ignoring the weird looks they were getting. "Then, let's go to the Knight Class. Oh yes, can I accompany you like this every day?"
"As long as you behave properly, I don't mind," Aegon said with a faint smile. "I don't have anyone in my class anyway."
"Now that you mention it, I also don't have any friends except one," Rosa said, tilting her head cutely. "I have her, but I hate her more than I love her though "
"Then you definitely love her," Aegon said with a small chuckle.
"Perhaps I'll take pity on her and consider her my friend," Rosa said dramatically and even patted her own back. "There, there. I am really great and benevolent, aren't I?"
"Oh, you definitely are," Aegon replied, amused.
"Thanks, thanks! So, want to become friends?" Rosa stretched her hand out with a beaming smile. "My name is Rosaline, your future wife, and for now, a friend. The upgrade can happen over time."
"You're a weirdo," Aegon said, smiling as he shook her hand. "But all of my friends are weirdos, so you're welcome to the outer circle."
"I'm not close yet?" Rosa pouted. "No worries. I'll make my way in. First friends, then best friends, and continue until I'm rolling under sheets with you."
Aegon flicked her forehead, making her flinch, and said, "Why does your mind always go there?"
"Can't help but imagine my bright future," Rosa grinned slyly. "Or maybe I should say dark because of the sheets."
Aegon shook his head helplessly. "Do you want to discuss the lecture while walking to Knight Class?"
"Absolutely yes!"
Others left to do their own things, while Aegon and Rosa walked to the Knight Class, which was held in a massive training stadium.
Along the way, they continued discussing the lecture and diving deep into magical theories. Just as Aegon had guessed, Rosa was a completely different person when it came to studies.
Throughout the walk, she didn't tease him or say anything nonsense. In fact, her understanding of magic impressed him greatly, her insights were sharp, her explanations precise. For the first time in a long while, Aegon felt like he had someone he could truly exchange theories with.
A smile slowly formed on his lips as he thought, 'Even if we don't end up in a romantic relationship, being friends with her wouldn't be bad at all.'
The only problem was the mystery surrounding her. He didn't even know enough about her background to guess who she really was. He could have asked Hecte to investigate, but he decided against it. He wanted to play this game she started and uncover it himself.
By the time they reached the stadium, hundreds of students were already training intensely. Just because there were students like them who took both courses, the Academy didn't separate the schedules.
Time was valuable for everyone, so if they wanted to pursue both pathways, they had to manage it themselves, even if it meant missing some lessons.
"There are many Rune Formations in this stadium for Knights. Practicing here can boost efficiency by up to fifty percent," Rosa explained as they entered the enclosed area.
Students were allowed to practice freely since everyone had their own methods. Still, two instructors were present to provide guidance or advice to anyone who needed it.
It was clear that most had been practicing since morning, all looked exhausted, yet they wore smiles of satisfaction as they continued their training.
"There are also recovery Rune Formations and a few others that help with prolonged practice," Rosa continued, smiling. "Hmm, want to bet?"
"Again? Now what?" Aegon raised an eyebrow.
"You want to know how I know about you, don't you?" Rosa asked teasingly. "You're curious why I called you Little Gon."
"That I am!"
"Then here's your chance," Aegon said, pointing at the barracks filled with equipment. "We'll put on equal weights and run twenty laps around the stadium. Whoever finishes first wins!"
"Sure!" He agreed instantly.
"Aren't you curious what I'll ask if I win?" she teased, stepping closer.
"First, I'm not losing. Second, I can guess," Aegon said with a confident smirk. "You want a day out with me so we can get to know each other better. The Academy probably won't allow it because we're both nerds who get too caught up in theory and forget everything else."
"Wow! You already know me so well. Marry me already, future hubby!"
"Let's start the race then."
