[The Wolf of the North shakes his head in disbelief and says you must be the King of Greed because what is this outrageous demand]
Kage shrugged, glancing at the cub.
The little creature tore at the meat, anxiously watching Kage with bright blue eyes.
'Such a pity that a gentle spirit like this will face the cruelty of this world just because of one old man's selfishness.'
[The Wolf of the North's mouth falls open in awe. He tells you to look in the mirror and ask: mirror, mirror, who is the most selfish man on earth? The Wolf of the North is confident it'll be you. He calls you a Spawn of Impurity]
Kage laughed.
"You seem in high spirits today, Wolf of the North. Good, good—keep hurling curses at me while begging for my favor!"
[The Wolf of the North falls silent. He takes back his statement and asks you to reconsider]
Kage shook his head, feigning confusion.
"You know, I don't understand why it's so difficult to owe me thirty debts. It's not like I'm going to force you to do what you don't want. Your evasiveness and hesitation tell me you're all hiding something. There's a catch, and it's tied to that ritual."
[The Wolf of the North exhales. He pauses to retrace your words and suddenly frowns, asking how is it thirty? You said twenty just now]
Kage allowed a sly smile.
"The additional ten is for emotional abuse and damage. Have you no idea how deeply wounded I was being called a Spawn of Impurity? What? You think I'm going to overlook that?"
[The Wolf of the North exhales again and says fine. He asks what thirty debts you want]
Kage studied the beast. It glanced up and met his eyes nervously before dropping its head.
"We don't need to rush. But I'm curious. Who are you? What era are you from? And what are Sovereign Gods?"
[The Wolf of the North exhales heavily. He seems burdened by having to answer your question, but he answers anyway]
[He says he doesn't know how these things are documented in the present age, but he is from the time when humans found themselves in a world of undefeatable monstrosities. The path of cultivation was discovered three generations before him, but they were unable to become Supremes. He says with his birth and some others, there were significant changes in the devastation of Noctara. He says he is, as he is called, Běijìng Láng Shén—the Howl that Ended Winter]
[He says he is the leader of the Northern Tribes in Noctara, the greatest tribe of his time]
Kage remained silent for a moment, absorbing the information but not wanting to dwell on it now—that would demand his undivided attention. In the midst of the examination, that was a fool's choice.
"You haven't answered the last question."
[The Heretic Inquisitor of Eternal Truth smiles and says, what if he tells you something interesting instead]
Kage raised a brow, then a smile slowly spread across his face. He patted the cub's head gently while grinning.
"The question must be vital if the Inquisitor of Eternal Truth is willing to owe me a debt to stop me from learning the answer."
[The Heretic Inquisitor of Eternal Truth laughs]
[He says they have nothing to hide from you, but this is caution—not against you, but against whatever forces must have drawn them into your soul. He says they are as confused as you are regarding this incident and are being careful until they discover the source of this strange phenomenon and also uncover why the soul of a supposedly talentless human with a weak cultivation body can contain the souls of twelve Sovereign Gods]
[He further explains that once one becomes a Supreme, their soul is like a mountain; becoming an Immortal, their soul is like the vastness of the sky. He says it makes no sense that a mountain or the vastness of the sky is fitted into a small orb riddled with cracks, and yet the orb remains intact]
[He says their souls are ten thousand times greater than a mountain or the vastness of the sky, like trying to forge Damascus steel inside a clay cup and yet the small orb isn't shattering. So he suspects something is definitely at play but doesn't know what. This is why they need to investigate thoroughly and need to guard their identity... even from you]
Kage remained silent for a moment, then smiled faintly.
"So, what are you willing to offer?"
[The Heretic Inquisitor of Eternal Truth laughs subtly. He speaks of a certain clue to the worm you are seeking, and it may help you more than you currently think. He says when the time comes, he shall let you know]
"Don't do that, Elder Inquisitor. It's a petty move."
[The Heretic Inquisitor of Eternal Truth claims this information holds no significance to you at the moment and urges you to focus on passing the Entrance Examination]
Kage fell silent again, studying the cub.
"I'm sure you all understand that it's within my power to kill this cub if I'm displeased and find all of this to be a charlatan's charade."
[The Heretic Inquisitor of Eternal Truth laughs briefly and says that though it might have only been two weeks, he feels like your sworn brother for a thousand years already]
Kage scoffed.
"Alright. How do I bond with this thing, then?"
[The Wolf of the North says that the North Star bonding is by blood—that you must press your blood against its forehead where the mark of a black star will appear]
Kage, with a cold expression, examined the thumb he had cut earlier and scratched it again. A drop of blood pooled out, and he pressed it against the cub's forehead.
The cub's eyes blazed as it locked onto Kage, and the blue hue slowly bled to violet.
Then the small star that appeared on its forehead faded away.
Kage instantly felt a tremendous surge of vigor drain from his body—his head felt weightless, like a scroll catching wind, and he nearly passed out. But he braced himself with one hand and shook off the dizziness.
[Congratulations]
[You have bonded with a Mythic Beast]
[You have gained title: Lord of the North Star]
