Back on the settlement.
The two hearts appeared inside Ved's body. With them came a flood of memories. At first he wasn't very surprised until the last memories.
' She..she's here.' thousands of thought ran through his head. He wondered how she was here and not just her, her friend Catheliya as well.
When he thought about how he almost killed Cat he felt a bit guilty but then shrugged it off. However what troubled him the most was that, he couldn't figure out if she distracted him on purpose so Vermillion could catch him off guard or not.
But then he remembered the confusion and sadness on her eyes. The Naledi he knew would never be able to act that well, she was absolutely terrible at acting.
Which meant, it's most likely that there was no ploy at play and she didn't even know it was him. That asshole just took advantage of the situation.
However this information brought about a flood of new questions. Did this mean, this world was actually earth?, did he reincarnate on earth that has changed or was this an alternate earth?
He couldn't figure it out yet so he stopped. He looked at the sleeping White, her wounds were healing rapidly and her aura was growing stronger.
This change started after he fed her his blood. ' Strange, her body seems to be changing for some reason.'
Ursela, Pulse and Goldi gave him strange looks. ' What?.' " You really don't know?" Asked Ursela skeptically.
'Know what?.' , he asked, his voice laced with genuine confusion. Her face twitched. " You're really clueless aren't you? Well let this big sister teach you." She looked proud.
Before she could say anything, Goldi spoke first. ' This old man thought you already knew brat, your body is sort of a ton....' " SHUT UP YOU STUPID FROG. I'm the one who's going to tell him."
Ursela glared at Goldi with disapproving eyes. Old man Goldi sighed and backed off. He knew how to read the room and he didn't want to mess with this monster of a woman.
He didn't know the relationship between her and Ved but he knew she was powerful, really powerful.
Ursela cleared her voice. " As I was saying, your body gives off a very delectable scent, like an elixir. I have the feeling consuming you would be very beneficial to my bloodline.
And this feeling had grown even stronger since you became rank 4." Ved stood there dumbfounded, that didn't sound good at all, then he got confused again.
' Then why didn't any of you eat me? You all had a chance at some point. If I really give off such a feeling, shouldn't other beasts be flocking towards me like moths to a flame?'
Ursela laughed. " Because we're not savages, we wouldn't kill another spiritual beast for our own benefit unless they provoke us, also, since ancient times spiritual beasts have had a rule against eating each other.
While we might be of different races, we're technically of the same species according to the heavens, so it would in a sense be cannibalism." Her face changed and became serious.
" Don't assume every spiritual beast is like that though, some would be willing to break that law if it beneficial to them, like that stupid bastard of the east sea."
Ved didn't know who the stupid bastard of the east sea was but it sounded like she hate them, he thought about what she said but no matter how hard he thought about it still made no sense.
To begin with there have been beasts who consumed his blood or some part of him but he didn't see any changes on their bodies, except for the fish in that swamp.
Also, wouldn't demonic beasts be flocking to him if that's the case? Why would some of them run away and avoid him, well he had been jumped in the past but still.
He sighed and looked at White again. Then he turned around and walked around the settlement.
The ground was charred with some part of it even melted into lava pools. There were burnt corpses of rabbits and hippos all over the ground.
He started collecting those corpses gently and lining them up close to each other. The water from the lake moved and a group of hippos came out.
From the rabbit holes, rabbits also came out, most of them were young. They looked at him with teary eyes for a moment then started helping.
Old man Goldi and Pulse also came to help. Then Ved created white cloths using his webs and covered their bodies.
While they didn't understand why he did that they figured it was part of the funeral ceremony, he had introduced the concept of funerals to them before.
Ved lay down on his stomach and watched the hundreds of corpses before. Then he remembered the people he had killed himself and guilt flooded his heart.
Maybe they had families who would mourn them as well and he had taken their lives from them.
That human part of himself didn't make dealing with the guilt easier. Even now, he still felt disgusted when he thought about killing people.
However, when he looked at the corpses lying infront of him, his guilt lessened. Ved understood humans, they were compassionate towards their own.
Atleast some of them were but they were cruel to those they either deemed lesser or a threat.
And he knew they couldn't get along with beasts, not with their superiority complex and greed. Not to mention they were most likely going to deem him a threat now and that he will most likely have to kill more of them someday.
' Tell me spear, you are fond of humans, do you think I was wrong for killing them?' He knew the spear was biased against beasts like how the humans are most likely are.
He needed to hear the perspective of someone whose reaction would most resemble that of humans.
However, he did not expect the response. " Wrong? That is not for me to decide. It is normal to be angry when somebody invades your home.
You did what any normal person would. Your anger and reaction shows that you care about your own, that is more than I can say about some humans."
Ved laughed. ' I have never told anybody this but I was once a human myself you know?'. The vessel spirit sighed " I know, your soul is still very much human, but you are not, not anymore.
Trying to act like one will only harm your real family." The vessel spirit turned it head and looked at the rabbits and hippos standing behind Ved.
Ved looked at them as well, he saw the pain of losing their loved ones in their eyes. He saw the hopeful looks they gave him.
He had never even met some of them before, he left before they were born but even they looked at him with hopeful eyes like he was their saviour.
Ved sighed, he didn't understand it, he had never done anything to warrant their trust, yet they still gave it to him.
He didn't want to disappoint them, he would try his best to create a safe haven for them, that was his promise.
So right now he needed to find a new place to live, possibly with higher world essence, even though world essence made him uncomfortable and could possibly be dangerous to him, if it's more concentrated it would be good for them.
Suddenly Ursela appeared next to him. " You're probably going to need a new place to live won't you?" Ved nodded. " Have you considered moving to the centre of the island?*
