The Smiling Death

Chapter 128: Survival Exam (3)

After killing those beasts, Amon continued his journey.

Then he heard something new.

A deep, steady sound.

He followed it, moving past trees and rocks until the forest opened up. His eyes widened.

In front of him was a tall waterfall, shining in the sunlight.

Water crashed down from a high cliff, sending cool mist into the air. The pool below sparkled like glass, and tiny rainbows danced in the spray.

Amon stepped closer, smiling a little.

"It's… beautiful," he whispered.

He knelt beside the water and touched it. It was cold and clear. But as his fingers brushed the surface, the shadows under the water seemed to move, just for a second.

"There seem to be fishes here."

Amon looked around, uneasy.

Wondering if there was any danger near him. Finding that everything was fine, he relaxed.

"Huhuhu~ Look at the beautiful sight. Aren't I too lucky?" Amon chuckled while seeing the scene in front of him.

He leaned and drank the water from the stream.

"Hah… that was nice."

He looked at the water. He really wanted to get undressed and jump in. Take a nice bath and enjoy a little.

He stood at the edge of the water stream, thinking deeply.

'I already checked the surroundings while coming here. There were no monsters… it's not like I'll spend hours swimming.'

He made up his mind. He made the most idiotic decision.

He started to undress.

'Damn~ fuck the exam. My happiness comes first.'

After remaining only in his boxer, Amon stretched for a while and then jumped into the water.

Splash!

The water made a splash sound. Amon kept his bracelet and storage ring on his hand.

The water was cool. He swam through it, enjoying his time.

"Hehehe~ That's what you call living."

---

Outside the forest.

Where all the Academy staff were monitoring the forest and students.

There were multiple large tents made, each for different work.

In one of the tents, huge machines were set up. Above them, multiple screens hovered, showing the movements in different areas.

Professor Asher and Professor Crystina were looking over them, while some staff worked on the machines. Operating the system.

"So, what do you think… who will come out on top of this exam?" Asher asked with curiosity.

Crystina observed the screens with her cold blue eyes. They were fixed on a particular one. Where a young boy with dark blue hair was cutting down one monster after another.

His movements were swift, precise, beautiful. Each of his slashes left a silver starlight behind.

His cold eyes were full of confidence.

"If you had asked me something like this two months ago, I would have said without a doubt. Seraphina. But now… I can't say for sure. Arnold Bigod… he has shown tremendous growth over the past few months. If anyone will be on top, it will be either one of them," she said in a calm voice.

Asher smirked and nodded. He was thinking the same. He had seen both of them fighting during sparring sessions multiple times. Only Arnold could go against Seraphina.

No one else could match her. There was Marcus as well, but he was still a little behind those two.

"Well, it's a whole week exam… only if anyone is able to survive then… oh, it seems some students have already formed groups."

His eyes fell on a particular screen, where a group of four students were fighting a rank two monster.

Crystina followed his gaze.

"True. That's good. To learn, help each other, trust one another. But how long will it last? Can they be a team for a week… or will someone betray and stab their teammates in the back?" she said, her lips curving slightly.

"Hahaha! True. That's one of the best things to see." Asher burst into laughter.

Just then, two more figures entered the tent.

Two women one wearing a violet robe, a witch hat on her head, her wheat-blonde hair loose. There was a cheerful smile on her face.

The other wore a blue turtleneck shirt. Over it, a white lab coat. A tight pencil skirt hugged her legs perfectly. Her bright green hair flowed down to her waist. She was truly a gorgeous woman.

They were Aria and Adelia.

"What are you guys talking about?" Aria questioned, curious about why Asher was laughing.

Both Asher and Cristina turned toward them.

"Oh, Aria, Adelia. It's nothing. Just talking about the exam," Asher replied with a grin.

Adelia and Aria stopped beside the other two.

They could see how all the students were doing.

Among them, Seraphina and Arnold were showing the best results. Marcus came just after them.

"Interesting. We have got some amazing and unique students. I'm really excited for this," Aria said while observing the screens.

Adelia agreed with her. "Yes. There are really many talented students this year… and unique as well."

From "unique," she suddenly remembered a black-haired boy. Her eyes searched for him.

She asked the one who was operating the screen to show her Amon's feed.

"Track where Amon Vale is and show his screen."

Asher and Crystina were a little surprised as to why Adelia was asking that.

Meanwhile, Aria's eyes sparkled like a child's.

"Ohh yes~ Amon boy! I also want to see that student~ hehehe. Is he going to run like his first lecture?" she wondered, remembering the scene of him during the first lecture.

Adelia smiled softly. Just when she was going to respond.

A new screen appeared.

"Hehehe~"

What came was not the sound of beasts fighting against the boy, nor someone running for their life or yelling for help.

Rather, it was cheerful laughter.

All four professors froze. They were shocked. It was a sight they had never seen before in their careers.

The young man was swimming in the stream, only wearing his boxer.

Laughing alone, going under the water, then coming out above the surface. His cheeks puffed with water, then he sprayed it out of his mouth into the stream again.

After that, he laughed. He was actually enjoying it. Like he was on vacation.

"That–That's… hahaha! Damn, only this student can do something so idiotic. Hahaha!" Aria burst into laughter.

Adelia shook her head tiredly, though there was a small smile on her face.

"This guy… he won't survive for long," Asher commented, perfectly knowing who this kid was. He was the most unique student of the first year.

"I agree with you," Crystina nodded her head, exhaling a heavy sigh.

Well, Amon was famous among all professors.

Of course, for not so good a reason.
