"Look, Eve...it's the guild!" I say excitedly as I adjust my mask for the ninth time. I'm really anxious to get registered in the guild right away. Eve calmly behind me seems tired of me fiddling with the mask again, and we've been standing in front of the guild's door for almost 10 minutes.
"Evelyn-sama, I understand you're anxious and scared, but can we just go in already? You insisted we rush here because you didn't want to waste time, but now you're just standing in front of the door!" Eve throws logic at me.
"Lucky for you, your argument is good," I murmur, accepting that I'm being quite contradictory. I quickly take a deep breath, sigh, and go to the guild's door, opening it.
Immediately, I see a large hall with a wooden floor, full of people at various tables and chairs. Some are chatting with their teams, others are looking at mission papers, and some are drinking in broad daylight.
There are some teams here that seem incredible, while others look like a bunch of extras you'd find at the beginning of a game.
A few people briefly look up due to the sound of the door, but soon return to their normal activities as I take rigid steps towards the reception counter.
Each step seems to add more weight as I breathe incorrectly; the nervousness is killing me. I hope I don't say anything stupid in front of the guild receptionist.
'Damn, it feels like everyone is looking at me, even though no one is actually paying attention to me.' It's an unpleasant feeling. Maybe choosing the mask idea was bad.
I feel like if I wasn't wearing the mask, I could easily walk up to the counter and start a conversation without this sensation. I look at Eve, who notices my discomfort.
I give her a look that says "Why didn't you stop this stupid idea!" and she responds with a look that says "You're the one who chose this, so deal with the consequences," which makes me give up.
She could have stopped me, but after discussing the team name for hours, it was obvious she wouldn't want another argument about my mask idea.
I still think the masks are cool and a good idea, but it turns out that for a beginner, the mask gives a strange highlight. If we were an already respected group, then the mask wouldn't seem strange.
But with sheer willpower, I overcome the embarrassment and approach the receptionist, who gives me a friendly smile. I try to return the smile, forgetting that with the mask on my face, she can't see anything.
"Hello, how are you? I'm Yoruhime, do you need anything?" She speaks politely while I briefly observe her appearance, noticing that she is a Demonic Vampire, a relatively rare type of demon since they are quite reserved.
She is a cute-looking girl, with large blood-red eyes and long black hair. She has a seemingly weak physical build with small breasts and a medium stature.
Overall, she's a pretty girl, exactly the image the guild wants to convey, as men prefer to be served by beautiful girls.
"Y-Yes, I need something... I'm a registrant and I want to join the guild... I mean, I'm a guild and I want to join the registry, n-no!! That's not it, I... w-w-want to..." Eve pulls my shoulder before I can say more nonsense due to my nervousness.
"Her name is Evelyn, and I'm Eve..." Eve starts speaking, giving me a solid starting point. I take a deep breath, let out a long sigh, and then formulate a complete and coherent sentence.
"I want to register as an adventurer and create a group, and the most important thing is I want to take a test to skip the initial classification. I believe my ally here is easily Rank C, and I'm a strategist, so I have a Rank, but it's based on technical support," I say quickly to the receptionist.
My face is as red as a pepper. Fortunately, the mask hides my embarrassment, or I could really disappear in a cloud of smoke created by pure shame.
She quickly grabs a paper and pen and hands them to me. I see a basic form and mentally thank the receptionist for being so professional and not caring about the nonsense I spoke earlier.
"Since you claim to be a strategist and want to create a Rank C group, you will need to pass a theoretical and strategic test before we create your guild registration, while your ally... who obviously doesn't count as an individual, will need to pass a practical exam," She says, already noting that Eve is not a demon like the others.
"How did you know?" I ask curiously. Of course, I knew they would figure it out, but it was too fast for her to discover that Eve is something created by me.
"The scent of her blood, it's exactly the same as yours," She responds to my question with a smile, and I mentally make a note of that for myself. It's interesting to know that even in the blood, Eve is identical to me.
"Come with me, I'll take you to the theoretical test after you sign these forms, and I'll guide your companion to the practical test," She quickly says, agilely handling everything.
"Sure!" I follow her as she smoothly leaves the counter, leading me and Eve to the inner area of the guild. I look at Eve and give her a thumbs up, a positive for her for helping me speak and everything going as planned.
'I can't wait to finish this! It'll be a piece of cake! I hope the receptionist doesn't tell the colleagues about the stupid things I said out of nervousness.' I'm sure I can easily pass any theoretical test, but if this disastrous start spreads, I could die of embarrassment.

...
...
"Okay, what's your name?" The Yoruhime, who is the guild receptionist, asks me while I'm in a different room from Evelyn-sama. Even though I've already introduced my name previously.
"I'm Eve," I respond bluntly. Yoruhime jots down some notes along with other questions she has asked and written in my guild registration.
"Look, I've already had this conversation with that girl. You... can't be considered an adventurer. I don't know what you are, but you're clearly not a 'normal' person who can become an adventurer."
"And since you have that girl's magic and vitality, it's been decided to list you as her 'summon'. We don't know how you came to be, so this is the most we can do," She says, writing down some things and handing them to me.
It's obvious this is a mix of laziness and disinterest. They could go deeper to try to figure out what I am and classify me correctly, but they prefer to just treat me as a "summon" to expedite the paperwork.
"Sign here," She hands me the paper and a pen. I briefly read it and quickly sign, as there's nothing out of the ordinary. The paper itself is just a regular document that the receptionist said will be kept in case they need to confirm the information.
"You understand that if you die or suffer permanent damage in your practical test, we won't be responsible, right?" She asks to confirm. I quickly nod.
I won't die or be permanently damaged. If I die, I can only regret failing Evelyn-sama and wish that she finds a better puppet than me, the one who failed.
And if I'm damaged, Evelyn-sama can fix me. Of course, I would still apologize for making her spend money she doesn't have. I know Evelyn-sama is in serious financial difficulties and I shouldn't generate more expenses.
"Can we go already? I want to return to Evelyn-sama." She is without anyone to protect her, and I don't trust the guild to defend Evelyn-sama. I need to finish this quickly and go back to protect her from any danger. I don't know how safe the guild is.
Moreover, Evelyn-sama is not considered important to the guild. I doubt they would protect her as they should, since Evelyn-sama has no fame or respect from anyone due to the unfair label of being a failure.
"Of course... does this mask not bother you?" She asks, standing up. I lightly touch the mask, knowing full well that this item has incredibly high quality despite the low-quality material.
Evelyn-sama has divine hands. She can transform trash into true works of art. She created me with very basic things, just as she created this mask with equally basic materials.
"No, the mask doesn't bother me, so don't worry," Surprisingly, the mask really doesn't bother me. It's light and perfectly made for my face, so it doesn't interfere with my field of vision or affect the way I'll fight.
Even the lens that forms the eye was made in a way that doesn't cause interference. Evelyn-sama did an exceptional job.
"Great, then follow me. We'll give you a temporary sword for the test since you said you're a swordsman, and we'll start immediately," She says, starting to leave.
"Receptionist, will Evelyn-sama be able to watch my test?" I ask, as this is very important.
"No, she won't be able to. For various reasons, such as preventing cheating, keeping her safe, preventing her from providing any form of support, even through commands, and also to prevent her from interfering with the test if you're in danger," She speaks with a certain coldness.
'Good.' I don't want her to see it. I hate to admit it, but I'm not as kind as Evelyn-sama thinks. I know she has a gentle personality that doesn't like brutality or injustice.
With her around, I would have to limit my fighting to not disturb her. But with her away, I can kill enemies however violently I want.
'Evelyn-sama still needs to learn that the world is trash. She has to learn to be cold... I just hope... the world doesn't teach her that lesson too harshly.' I can only wish that she learns before the world teaches her in a painful way.
