Super Soldier in Campus

Chapter 434: Hunter Guild_1

"The eagle in the snake pit..." Lin Feng thought for a moment; he knew this text message was from Yan Su.

During the training for Operation Falcon, Yan Su was the team captain and understandably called himself 'Eagle.' As for 'in the snake pit,' that referred to the Qinglong Group, also known secretly as the Qingzi Sect. Yan Su was currently undercover within the Qingzi Sect, so he was, naturally, the eagle.

Thinking of Yan Su risking exposure to send him a warning text, Lin Feng couldn't help but feel a wave of emotion; at the same time, the doubt in his heart grew heavier. According to Yan Su, Long Shaotian of the Qinglong Group shouldn't have moved against me yet. So who planted the bomb?

Could it be the Violent Organization seeking revenge? Lin Feng pondered this for a moment, then quickly dismissed the idea. Although the possibility existed, the Violent Organization was infamous for bullying the weak and fearing the strong, and they always calculated gains and losses. They didn't work for free. If no one hired them to kill me, even if they wanted revenge, they probably wouldn't act this quickly!

C4, C4... Lin Feng thought for a while but had no clues. He found himself missing his days in the White Wolf Squad, with Ling Yun, the 'God of Killing,' as a trace verification expert. Ling Yun could deduce an enemy's origins just from an explosive recipe. I'm still not skilled enough in this area, Lin Feng thought.

It seems I'll have to try and contact the members of the White Wolf Squad. Even if they don't recognize me, I can still meet my brothers by hiring them... Lin Feng clenched his teeth and finally made up his mind!

Lin Feng opened the laptop provided in his room and connected to the internet. He opened a browser, clicked on the address bar, and seemed to randomly mash the keyboard for a full half minute. The string of gibberish in the address bar exceeded a hundred characters. After a brief pause, Lin Feng gently pressed the Enter key…

Amazingly, Lin Feng's long string of seemingly random characters formed a complete web address. In just half a second, the browser transformed into a purely black interface. In the center were ten options, each marked "Enter" in one of the ten most popular international languages. Lin Feng casually selected the German option.

The site Lin Feng entered was a transaction site. Unlike ordinary transaction sites, this one traded in mercenary services... and assassination missions...

"Welcome, distinguished guest, to the Hunter Guild. Before you choose any service, please deposit a guarantee of $50,000, or the equivalent in another currency, into your random transaction account," the message read.

On the Hunter Guild website, all transactions were anonymous. Each client or service provider was assigned a random account by the site, and all transactions were conducted using these random accounts. This practice guaranteed maximum safety for both parties. Although the transaction fees were a bit high, most of the people who frequented this place weren't short of funds.

Fifty thousand US dollars was equivalent to about 300,000 RMB. Lin Feng unhesitatingly deposited 300,000 RMB into the random account assigned to him.

"Hello! Our esteemed guest, what kind of assistance do you need?"

Once Lin Feng deposited the money, a customer service representative immediately inquired about his intentions.

"I want to know the current status of the White Wolf Squad!" Lin Feng didn't beat around the bush and asked directly.

"Hello, guest. Answering this question requires a fee of 5,000 US dollars. Do you confirm your question?"

Five thousand US dollars is a total rip-off, Lin Feng thought, especially since he was so short on cash right now. Confirming this really stings! Still, he sent the confirmation: "Confirmed…"

"The White Wolf Squad announced their disbandment five months ago!"

They've... disbanded? Lin Feng froze. Although he'd suspected this might be the outcome, seeing it confirmed still left him feeling somewhat empty.

The number one Mercenary Corps in the Middle East... disbanded just like that?

Logically, Zhou Yang, Ling Yun, Qing Yi, and Xiang Wang could all stand on their own. How could the squad have ended up disbanding so tragically?

But the announcement of their disbandment at least proved they were all still alive. Lin Feng felt a sliver of relief at that.

Unwilling to give up, Lin Feng asked again, "Can I inquire about the members' whereabouts?"

"To inquire about the whereabouts of one squad member requires a consultation fee of 500,000 US dollars!"

Damn... Lin Feng knew anything related to the White Wolf Squad wouldn't be cheap, but he hadn't expected that just checking the members' casually registered whereabouts would cost three million RMB.

This isn't just expensive, it's exorbitant! Besides, who knows if they just left some fake information to fob people off?

Just as Lin Feng was about to exit the Hunter Guild website, he noticed the Violent Organization on the assassin leaderboard. A thought struck him, and he asked customer service, "I'd like to check the Violent Organization's recent mission success rate!"

"5,000 US dollars. The data will be displayed after you confirm."

Lin Feng chose to confirm and quickly saw the Violent Organization's mission success rate.

Sorted by time, he was struck to find that the Violent Organization's sole recent failure clearly listed the mission location as: China, Mainland.

The Violent Group really lives up to its name... Lin Feng mused, looking at the rows of green entries signifying successful missions—each one a life extinguished.

Targets for whom opponents were willing to spend millions, or even tens of millions, to hire assassins were no ordinary people. Lin Feng wasn't one to get overly sentimental. He curiously observed the entries for a while before carefully exiting the website. He then refreshed his computer's network address to prevent anyone from tracking his actual location.

What a waste. Ten thousand US dollars in consultation fees down the drain! My plan to find my squad members has failed. It looks like I can only take things one step at a time from now on. Lin Feng gave a bitter smile and shook his head.

「The next morning,」

After taking Su Zi and Ning Aoxue to school, Lin Feng drove Cao Ying's car back to the underground parking lot of that commercial building. He then hailed a taxi to the Yuefu Hotel and drove his own Passat.

Not usually taking routes through the bustling city areas, Lin Feng hadn't realized how severe Jiangzhou's morning rush hour traffic was. He practically crawled his way back to the university. After all that trouble, Lin Feng was, as expected, spectacularly late.

He wasn't just a little late; by the time he returned to the classroom, the second class was already half over.

This class happened to be a combined lecture for the Industrial Management and Finance programs: Macroeconomics, taught by their counselor, Xu Jing. When Lin Feng appeared at the classroom door, Xu Jing was staring at him, her expression clearly displeased.

Seeing Lin Feng casually appear at the door, Su Zi and Ning Aoxue couldn't help but facepalm and sigh in exasperation. There are quite a few students from both programs in this lecture, and Xu Jing hadn't even bothered taking attendance. But Lin Feng just had to barge in from outside like this. Isn't he just asking for trouble?

"Lin Feng, can you explain why you were late?"

"Reporting, Teacher..."

Before Lin Feng could even answer Xu Jing's question, an earnest-looking male student in the class raised his hand and said, "Lin Feng isn't just late, Teacher! He skipped the entire first period and was late for this one too!"
