The news that Professor Sara was a traitor hit the capital hard, but also her hometown. In that city, her statues of heroism were torn down and trampled by dogs.
A traitor did not deserve to be remembered as a hero.
Something similar happened at the academy. The advanced class she presided over was dissolved, considering that her choice was biased and completely against what the academy wanted.
On the first day of classes after this news, the students who were going to attend the advanced class were chosen, including Ryan, who was accepted with all possible honors, although it was a position he rejected.
His pride would not allow him to accept where he had already been rejected, or so the rumors said.
But that wasn't the case. None of these teachers had anything to teach him, so he preferred to continue with Professor Sawyer, who gave him the freedom he wanted, allowing him to focus on what really worked for him.
That week, he even helped Sawyer develop a new way of teaching about Spirituality in the Spiritual Projection specialization, which opened his eyes. He never thought that teaching someone else could teach him something, too.
But thanks to designing an entire class with Sawyer, he managed to shorten the learning curve in Spiritual Projection, and in his second week of training in this new body, was about to reach level 2.
Now, that wasn't the most impressive part.
As he walked through the long corridors of the main academic tower, his footsteps echoed on the ceramic floor, and people walking near him greeted him respectfully.
Ryan was walking quickly, so he paid no attention to anyone. He heard familiar voices, but he didn't turn to look at them because he knew that if he stopped, they would waste his time.
Soon, he reached one of the main offices and knocked.
"I don't remember having any appointments today." Professor Austin's voice came from inside. He sounded bored and with nothing to do...
So Ryan simply opened the door and found him with his feet up on the desk, sitting on a folding chair with some pickles on his eyes.
"I have work to do today. Whoever it is, just come back later. I'm very busy dealing with my students' issues." He shouted again, completely oblivious to the fact that someone was staring at him.
When he heard everything go quiet, he thought they had finally left, so he relaxed again and rocked back in his folding seat.
It was very comfortable.
It would be a shame if...
"Austin." Ryan leaned close to his ear and shouted.
"AHHH!"
Ryan turned his face away slightly when he saw Austin fall backwards with the chair, rolling across the floor. The books, documents, and pencils on the desk were suddenly scattered all over the room.
Austin looked up angrily. "Bastard, are you trying to scare me to death?!" he shouted, but then he noticed who it was and took a deep breath.
"I should have guessed." He complained and began to pick up the things he had knocked over. "These young people think we're old enough for this kind of thing."
"They're becoming more and more inconsiderate."
"They want to kill us in so many ways."
"But what will they do when I die?"
"Damn. My back hurts..."
He complained for more than five minutes straight, and Ryan just looked at him with a playful smile.
This is what happens when you sleep on the job.
"Well." He sat up. "What the hell do you want, coming to bother me at such an important time?" he asked.
"I saw you lying in your chair and thought I should bother you for a while, Professor Austin," Ryan joked.
"I don't believe you. Get to the point, I want to get back to work."
"Work?" He looked at the pickle pieces on the table.
Austin quickly grabbed them and hid them underneath. He was so fast that Ryan could only laugh.
"I can learn Inanimate Destiny," he said, being completely direct as he had been told to be.
Austin stared at him for over a minute before frowning.
'I didn't know if I had heard wrong, or...'
"You heard right," Ryan said when he saw the expression on his face. He knew what was going on.
Austin then searched his memory for something...
"I don't remember you telling me you got the Puppeteer's Path," he said suddenly.
"That's right. I don't belong to the Puppeteer's Path."
He stared at him. "Then?"
"But I can learn the Inanimate Destiny," he replied again.
A scolding followed a bang on the table. "Of course you can't! How are you supposed to practice a specialization for which your skills aren't suited?"
Ryan wasn't alarmed by this. He was speaking from experience. "I'm sure I can do it."
Austin frowned. "You mean you weren't asking, but stating that you can do it? What path did you get to begin with? Only Puppeteers have good compatibility with that specialization, and they're the only ones who should try to study it. I don't remember any other path that can do it."
"Oh, wait." Austin remembered something. "The third prince can do it, but that's because he got a special path. An Extraordinary Path. Those guys can do extraordinary things, so it makes sense." He said, leaned back in his chair to look at Ryan.
But then his own words echoed in his mind repeatedly. It seemed as if they were being said repeatedly, and he couldn't stop hearing them.
Ryan's silence and lack of reaction joined in a frantic echo of words repeating themselves, causing Austin to frown even more and gently stand up.
"Are you telling me that you obtained a different Path, one of those famous paths that don't belong to the Primary Paths?" he asked in shock.
Ryan smiled. "You're very smart, professor," he joked, confirming this was true.
His eyes sparkled with interest. "Good." He smiled.
"Very well. That being the case, I understand that you can learn that specialization."
"But it's complicated to enroll in it just like that. That's why I came here," Ryan replied suddenly.
"Indeed. You're not a puppeteer, so everyone will want to know how you can enroll in that specialization. But don't worry, we have an easy and effective option so you can study it without anyone saying anything."
"Good." Ryan smiled with satisfaction. "I knew you'd find a way. Tell me, what is it?"
"It's easy. You'll have to see your Eighth Brother. He's the best teacher for you for this kind of thing."
