Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 91: Battle for the Stars (4)

Rhyana fought with her everything, claws, tail, jaws and even her body itself. Yet the enemies she faced were never ending.

But the worst part she couldn't find what she was looking for! She though she had heard the roar of another dragon some time ago yet even when she and Susan tried to go around the tree they could find nothing.

She was beginning to doubt if she would even find anything at all. Had she embarked on this journey for nothing? Was the Wild Dragon already dead? Was it even worth carrying on if that was the case?

But, then she saw Susan fighting for her life behind her. The woman was weak, easily scared, had a severe lack of self preservation instincts and had lead to countless issues cropping up during their long journey. Yet… she had stuck by Rhyanas side this entire time. Healed her after battles. Looked after her ever since she first arrived at that accursed farm.

She couldn't leave her behind. And if the only chance of escaping from this horrific trial was to fight and survive. Well then she would just have to keep on fighting wouldn't she.

The two worked together flawlessly. After the harrowing journey through the Endless Forest and once Susan stopped being afraid of every single thing she saw… they had learnt to fight quite well together. Rhyana would take the front and draw the opponents attention, with her rapid strikes and pure physical strength she could gain most foes attention with ease.

Then thanks to her rapid speed she would kite them around the battlefield and slowly whittle her foes down. Now with Susan healing her, she could afford to be a touch more reckless. Go for opportunities that she would have avoided for fear of reprisals. Not to say that she enjoyed being hurt, but with a competent healer aiding her it was not so bad!

Then with Susan's ever growing ranged magical arsenal the two could truly tie down any foe that they fought.

At least that was what she had thought until they decided to enter into the central valley. First their was the shadow domain. Unable to see much of anything in that dark abyss the two of them had simply charged through as fast as they could. Whilst neither of them could see much of anything, that is not to say that they didn't hear plenty.

She shivered just thinking about some of the things she heard and felt back then.

Thankfully the lightning domain was quite pleasant for Rhyana, considerably less so for Susan though.

But it was here that they truly learnt how dangerous this location truly was. For whilst they could handle any number of the individual foes that they did battle with. It was the endless waves of them that just kept on crashing into them. The first few fights were fine.

The 10th? The 20th? The 50th? Each new fight began to drain their reserves.

Then the fire domain and everything just became worse. Susan was hard countered in that hellscape which drastically reduced the two's efficiency.

Still the two had survived, they crossed an obsidian bridge and soon found themselves in yet another strange environment. Here the fights only grew in intensity. Near constant ambushes and skirmishes dealt continual damage. Their resources steadily depleting, their exhaustion steadily growing.

And then they entered the jungle. More battles, more injuries, more depletion of their reserves.

She Rhyana finally laid eyes on the tree she though that it might finally be over. That she would meet the being that she had spent so long searching for. That all of her troubles would be worth it in the end.

All that she received for her efforts was being locked into a dome with a mix of insane beasts raving for blood and exorbitantly strong beasts and groups of beasts that waged war against each other.

So now here she was, battered, tired and on the verge of collapsing. Susan was not in much better shape herself, what remained of her roughly patched up clothing was torn, bloodied and dirty. They made for quite a pitiful sight Rhyana imagined.

But it was as the duo slowly made their way around the edge of the dome that she felt something. The near intangible pull that she had been following for so long changed direction. At first she wanted to ignore it, yet it was true. The further around she walked the more that the pull changed, it was pulling her towards the centre where some of the fiercest fighting was taking place.

She looking in that direction and saw a scene of utter carnage.

A giant of a beast, with thick fur and a mighty truck was crushing unfortunate creatures beneath its mighty legs. Yet whilst a wide assortment of beast surrounded it it only attacked a select few of them. In fact it seemed like it was assisting and being assisted by quite a few beasts.

It looked to be a decently sized group, it consisted of some wolves, felines, a bird, a boar and a deer. And two more figures.

Rhyana first saw a woman, a beastkin of some kind. She had stark white hair and triangular ears atop her head, battered but whole leather armour covered her body and she wielded a spear of ice with deadly efficiency. She dashed through the battlefield with deadly grace, slaying a beast one moment before dashing away to block the attack of another from striking on of the beasts besides her.

This confused Rhyana for she had not expected to see another beastkin out in the depths of the Forest, let alone one that was so clearly working with beasts. Yet her attention was soon drawn away from the strange woman she she spotted a shadow flicker past.

Onyx scales that glittered under the twinkling stars above, violet eyes that shone with magic and determination. And two wings held to the creatures back and were of a deep purple. It was a dragon. Of that their was no doubt in Rhyanas mind.

And as she watched this beautiful and apparently female dragon dash through the battlefield. Her mind blanked out, she watched as the dragon slaughtering any foe that dared to get in her way. Her physical might was on full display, yet that did not seem to be her true calling. For it was her magic that truly shocked Rhyana.

Rhyana thought that both her and Susan's magic was powerful, yet watching that dragon effortlessly summon dozens of bolts of what looked like patches of nothingness. Only to launch them out with pinpoint precision, her eyes opened wide when she saw the effect that these seemingly simple bolts had on her foes however. Wherever the bolts struck entire chunks of flesh and bone would be simply erased from existenc.

It was terrifying and magnificent all at the same time.

It also meant one important thing to the battered blue dragon. She had finally found the True Wild Dragon after all this time. All she had to do now was survive this accursed trial and somehow find a way to meet her.

Something that would not be easy considering that even now a small hoard of beasts lay between them.
