Knock! Knock! Knock!
It was almost noon. Mart was asleep, and Iristel, who was also fast asleep, was hugging him.
"Who's knocking on the door so loudly?" Mart wondered to himself as he carefully moved Iristel to one side.
-Wait a minute. -said Mart, who took a dark green short-sleeved shirt and black pants out of his demonic bag, put on some brown shoes, and approached the door to open it.
After opening the door, Mart saw a demon over two meters tall, with a firm and imposing gaze, eyes whose orange irises seemed to contain the power of an unrelenting fire, an athletic body, reddish skin, two dark red horns on either side of his forehead, reddish hair, and a short beard. He was dressed in a black uniform with red and gold trim.
Mart looked at the uniform, specifically the emblem on the right side of the chest.
"Balac Sevec, he lives up to his title of demon general, his presence is as oppressive as that of Director Persec," Mart thought, still maintaining his calm gaze, since at least he had achieved what he had hoped for, which was for Balac Sevec to approach Zazel City.
-Tell that woman... -Balac was about to disrespect Iristel, but he saw the deep, defiant look on his grandson's face.
-She is my life partner, Grandfather. She deserves respect. If you wish to speak with me, I ask that you wait. I also have something important to say. -Mart said.
Balac looked at his grandson and unleashed his demonic power. A barrier appeared in front of Mart, which soon began to crack and then break.
"A demonic sorcerer?" thought Balac as he watched his grandson use demonic energy to resist the pressure.
-One hour. I will send Sitan in one hour. -Balac said, walking away down the hotel hallway, his footsteps echoing as he walked.
"Wow, a warrior is as powerful as a wizard," Mart thought, comparing the pressure of Balac's presence with that of Persec.
Mart closed the door and walked to the edge of the bed where Iristel had just put on a white bathrobe.
-We need to get ready; we have to meet my grandfather in an hour. -Mart said in a relaxed tone.
-I'll shower first. -Iristel said, kissing Mart before heading to the bathroom.
When the hour had passed, Mart was dressed in an elegant uniform with a long-sleeved red shirt with gold trim, with the emblem of the marquisate on the right side of his chest, with black pants and shoes, all tailor-made. Iristel wore a beautiful, elegant black and red dress with black gloves covering her delicate hands and forearms. Mart repositioned the marquisate emblem on Iristel's dress, and shortly after, when Sitan arrived, they were led to the room where Balac Sevec was waiting.
••••
A suite in the same hotel where they had stayed.
Walls painted in a pastel blue shade, a white ceiling with hanging lights.
Shiny brown wooden floors, high-end furniture.
A spacious area with a bar offering different types of drinks.
Mart and Iristel sat next to each other on a sofa, and in front of them was Balac Sevec, who was drinking a shot of liquor.
Balac looked inquiringly at Mart.
-We've heard many things about you. I wanted to know how true those rumors were. Apparently, the fact that you chose the path of a demonic sorcerer is true. But your behavior, it seems, remains the same. Do you have anything to say? Disrespectful brat. -Balac Sevec spoke in a firm voice.
-Yes, I'll be direct, Grandfather. There are some demons in this city who belong to the same group that attacked the prodigies of the Academy. Apparently, they want to cause chaos in the republic. Grandfather, you can stop them or report this to the appropriate authorities. I leave that decision up to you. -Mart Sevec clarified without showing a single trace of doubt.
Balak remained silent, drank the rest of his drink in one gulp, and then asked Mart:
-Did the believers of Alvat tell you that?
-You could say that. -Mart replied.
-What else did they tell you? -Balac asked, looking deeply and intently at his grandson.
Mart asked the system in his mind, "System, how many forms of Demon God energy are there in Zazel City right now?"
[Demon system detecting...]
For Mart, just seeing the system calculating was already an answer that indicated that the number of Demon God energy sources had increased.
Mart took a deep breath and responded with his speculations:
-A human woman will be auctioned off at the auction, most likely the daughter of some important nobleman from the Human Empire. They surely want to use the fact that there was an offense to the honor and physical integrity of the woman who will be auctioned off as an excuse. If she weren't important, they wouldn't be constantly guarding the building where the Grand Auction will take place. Furthermore, yesterday I was informed that I was being followed. It would be best to prevent that woman from falling into the hands of someone problematic, or a military and political conflict will erupt for which the republic will not be prepared, but they will.
[Demon God Energy Detected: (29)
"I knew it, more conspirators are entering the city. They must be making sure everything goes according to plan," Mart thought after seeing the system notification.
-So, you intended to participate in the auction and take that human with you. Could it be that you just want to have fun with her? Or do you have evidence to prove that your words are true? -Balac tried to probe further.
-All I can say is that more conspirators have joined in recent days. Grandfather, whether you believe me or not is beyond my control. I only have one request. Grant me your permission to return to the Academy.
-You plan to leave this matter unresolved, after bringing it up? -Balac questioned his grandson with an intimidating stare.
