From Blade To Spell

Chapter 72: Bathroom

It was already night. Lanterns glowed softly across the camp, casting warm light over the tents and walkways.

Jumba, alongside Captain Monga, moved from tent to tent, delivering food to everyone.

Inside a larger tent, Aaron sat with Village Chief Khumba, Torvald, and Rumba, deep in discussion.

Khumba leaned forward and asked, "Lord Aaron, so you plan to set up wooden walls around the camp and then begin building houses?"

Torvald added with a cautious tone, "Aaron, I don't mean to dampen your confidence… but building simple mud houses is easy. The problem is the heavy rains, mud won't last."

Khumba nodded thoughtfully.

Aaron, calm and composed, replied, "Who said anything about stone houses? I have a better idea.If we can produce bricks, our construction speed and durability will improve. Good-quality bricks can last a hundred years."

Torvald and Khumba exchanged confused glances.

Torvald said, "We'll need to test the bricks first. Only then can we decide if they're suitable for building."

Aaron nodded, realizing he had been a bit hasty. He knew that making bricks required aggregate, sand, and cement, without those, construction would be nearly impossible.

Suddenly, Khumba coughed and said, "Lord Aaron, if you trust me, we can build houses using wood from the Savannah Mountain Range."

Seeing their puzzled expressions, Khumba continued,

"Remember when I led my people to hunt the Grey Wolves? We tried cutting trees there, but they were incredibly tough. Normal tools couldn't even scratch them."

He pulled out a bone knife from his waist. "This was forged from a Tier 3 monster. It was passed down from my father. With this, we can chop those trees."

Aaron's eyes lit up with understanding.

He asked, "Old chief, do we have any blacksmiths in the camp who can forge weapons from monster materials?"

Khumba replied proudly, "Of course, Lord Aaron. During my grandfather's time, we had warriors who could hunt Tier 3 monsters. Though they're gone now, some in our tribe still know how to forge weapons from monster parts."

Aaron was thrilled. He knew that monster-forged weapons, especially from Tier 3 and above, were far superior to iron or steel.

After a moment of thought, he said, "Tomorrow, we'll begin building the wall. Old chief, you'll supervise the work."

Then he turned to Torvald, "You'll continue producing ballistia. Teach the guards how to operate them. As for wooden planks, I still have some in storage. Use them as needed."

After dinner, with guards assigned to patrol, the camp gradually fell into a peaceful sleep.

Early the next morning, after breakfast, Aaron made a decision, the bathroom had to be built today. The smell was becoming unbearable, and he knew it would only get worse.

He immediately approached Chief Khumba and asked Torvald to summon Mr. Monty, the architect.

Within minutes, they were assembled.

Monty stepped forward and asked, "Lord Aaron, Village Chief, what do you need me to do?"

Aaron took the lead, "We need to build bathrooms."

Monty blinked. "Lord Aaron, do you mean a building where people can bathe?"

Aaron nodded, "Not just bathing. They'll also be able to relieve themselves there."

Torvald raised an eyebrow, "Aaron, is it really necessary to build bathrooms first?"

Aaron sighed, "Torvald, can you concentrate with this disgusting smell around? Imagine waking up and stepping in filth, wouldn't that ruin your mood?"

He added firmly, "In my territory, I won't allow people to defecate wherever they please. Bathrooms will solve this problem."

Torvald nodded thoughtfully, "But we have over 500 people in the camp. We'll need a lot of them."

Aaron replied, "At least 50 for men and 50 for women."

Then he turned to Monty, "Mr. Monty, have you learned about drainage systems?"

Monty's eyes lit up, "Lord Aaron, is that the method of hollowing the ground so water flows away and prevents flooding?"

Aaron nodded. Monty's excitement faded slightly, "It's a core skill… but they never taught me that part."

Aaron smiled, "Well, I know about it."

He began explaining the concept how waste would be funneled into a large underground tank, and how the system could be expanded to lead waste outside the camp. He also described the dual drainage system: one for human waste, the other for rainwater and runoff.

Monty listened intently, then said, "Lord Aaron, you've taught me well. I already have ideas to combine this with my skills."

"May I draw a sample?"

Aaron nodded, and Monty began sketching.

He drew a rough diagram, and Aaron praised him,

"Excellent, Mr. Monty. Later, I'll give you a report detailing the number of houses, the main road, and other key buildings. I trust you to design the layout."

Monty beamed, "Don't worry, Lord Aaron. Leave it to me."

Aaron was satisfied. Then he said, "Before we proceed, call Mr. Toky. We'll need him to help finalize the bathroom structure."

Torvald stepped in, "Aaron, tell me the design. I'll explain it to Mr. Toky."

Aaron had almost forgotten, Torvald was a genius carpenter.

He nodded, "Alright, Torvald. The bathroom will be a building with multiple toilets similar to Roman designs, rows of seats for relieving oneself. Inside, we'll install a water tank. People can fill buckets from it for cleaning and bathing."

Torvald chuckled, "I don't know what this Roman design is you're talking about… but I get the gist. Let me explain how I understand it."

He described the structure in his own words, and a few minutes later, Aaron nodded in approval.

"Torvald, you're a genius. You know what to do next, right?"

Torvald grinned, "Of course, Aaron. But I'll need manpower to get it done."

Before Aaron could respond, Chief Khumba stepped forward. "Lord Aaron, don't worry. I'll lead the people to fell the trees."

Aaron added, "Old chief, make sure to cut trees along the path leading to the shore. That way, we'll begin clearing a route."

Khumba's eyes lit up with understanding. He knew exactly what Aaron was planning, expansion toward the shoreline.

He nodded firmly, "Understood, Lord Aaron."
