Reborn as the bastard son of a Duke

Chapter 47: Dungeon Dive(7)

(TEAM 1 POV)

Adam's team was making their way through the dungeon after defeating the Phantom Knight. Now, only the boss remained between them and victory.

This time, they were on high alert — they knew how easily they could be ambushed in the darkness if they weren't careful.

ROAR!!

A deafening roar echoed through the forest, shaking the very ground beneath their feet. They could hear trees crashing and splitting apart in the distance as something massive moved through the terrain without slowing down.

Instinctively, they all unsheathed their weapons, gripping them tightly as they prepared for whatever was coming.

"What was that?" Finn asked, his voice laced with concern.

Then, from within the fog, they saw a massive silhouette leap into the air — fire swirling around its maw. But this was no ordinary flame; its color was dark and twisted, radiating an ominous energy.

Without warning, it spewed the flames downward, engulfing the entire team's position in a wave of darkness and heat.

"Eve!!" Adam shouted, signaling for her to defend.

Eve immediately understood the situation. She channeled her mana, and powerful winds surged around the group, pulling shards of frost and snow into the current. In seconds, a large dome of reinforced ice formed around them.

The flames struck the dome —

BOOM!!

The explosion shook the entire area. Cracks spread across the icy barrier as the ground trembled under the force of the blast.

Seconds felt like minutes as the inferno raged, but eventually, the flames began to fade. The dome, now covered in fractures, crumbled into glittering shards that dissolved into mist.

Smoke filled the forest, merging with the fog and making visibility nearly impossible.

"What was that!?" Duke yelled, coughing.

"I don't know, but whatever it is… it's huge," Drake replied, his voice tense but tinged with excitement.

Finn tightened his grip on his sword, unmoving — focused on tracking the creature's presence. Eve and Adam were both on high alert, scanning the haze for any sign of movement.

Then—

Grrrrr…

A low growl rumbled through the air, chilling them to the bone. The fog began to thin, revealing the monstrous silhouette approaching from the shadows.

"Holy sh—!" Duke started, but his words were drowned out by another earth-shaking roar.

ROAR!!

ROAR!!

ROAR!!

The dungeon trembled with each bellow. The force of the roars blew away the lingering smoke, finally revealing the creature in its full, terrifying form.

A massive, three-headed hound stood before them, each head wreathed in dark, molten fire. Chains of scorched ash whipped from its tails, and its three maws dripped with embers of destruction.

Each head exhaled a different kind of hellfire — one dark crimson, another violet, and the third a sickly green.

It was a Hellfire Cerberus — though still an infant, its size was that of a small bus, and its presence radiated pure malice.

"Holy crap… we're fighting an actual Cerberus," Drake muttered, sweat rolling down his temple — yet a wild grin crept onto his face.

The Hellfire Cerberus was a nightmare even for advanced adventurers. It was immune to most magic, resistant to fire, wind, water, and earth affinities — and its only known weakness was light magic.

That made it especially dangerous.

"Looks like we'll be counting on you guys," Drake said, glancing toward Finn, Duke, Eve, and Adam.

He knew his wind affinity wouldn't do much damage against such a beast, but that wasn't going to stop him from fighting.

The team nodded, tightening their grips on their weapons. Every instinct screamed danger — but retreat wasn't an option.

They stood ready, weapons drawn, as the Hellfire Cerberus let out another low growl, shaking the forest to its roots.

The three-headed hound was now towering before them, its hide which was molten was glowing with crimson veins and also infernal energy.

Each of the Cerebu,s heads started to snarl as molten drool was sizzling the ground as it hit.

While the middle head, it's eyes was like volcanic balls showing that it was the leader of the whole body, it opened its maw releasing a guttural growl that sent shockwaves across the space

Taking a deep breath and his eyes were sharp and calm, Adam called out to his team:

"Stay in formation everyone. We shouldn't engage it alone. That fire isn't normal we all know that." Adam said with a voice of urgency

"Got it" Finn responded, his blade was now crackling with lightning arcs. "We'll attack when you give the signal."

"I'll cover us on defense with my ice and wind barriers and also support with attack." Eve said as her rapier was shimmering faintly, as cold mist was starting to swirl all around her.

"I'll keep it distracted, I'll put in some pressure and we'll see how it handles that!" Drake said with a grin despite the tension he felt as he spun his greatsword.

"Duke, just like with the Phantom Knight," Adam said, "Use your light magic since it's vulnerable against it, your our hidden card."

"I'm on it bro!" Duke said as he raised his hand as an orb of light was forming above his palm it was illuminating the battlefield as it cut through the fog shinning upon the monster.

The Cerberus winced a bit and let out a furious roar, it was annoyed at the light as it slammed its paws on the ground, this motion send out shockwaves outward.

Adam noticed this and knew it was about to pounce.

"Everyone, MOVE!" He shouted.

That's when the entire team leap in multiple different locations as they saw spikes of molten earth erupt from where they were standing.

It sent out a torrent of fire mixed in with magna as it instantly melted the trees in its path.

Drake was already in mid-air attempting to attack the monster, wind started to gather around his greatsword and he came crashing it down on top of one of the Cerberus's heads.

"Wind Cleave!" He shouted.

His greatsword landed on the head on it's right—but the impact only soaked against the hide of the head as it barely scratched it.

The Cerberus was annoyed and instantly retaliated, it send its massive paw towards Drake.

"Whoa—!"

Drake moved his sword to block the incoming paw

CLANG!!

The greatsword met with the paw, but the sheer force of the attack sent him flying through the air and he crashed down on the boulder shattering it instantly on impact.

Duke shouted. "Drake are you okay!?"

"Fine, I'm fine!" Drake grunted as he pushed himself up. "I'm just super pissed."

Meanwhile while this was happening, one of the side heads of the Cerberus snapped its jaws open.

It was gathering a dark-green flame, even saw this and reacted instantly.

"Freeze Gale!" She summoned a gust of icy wind that went towards the incoming dark-green flame.

The green fire collided against the barrier, it then exploded into a toxic cloud that was hissing and corroding everything it touched.

Even was gritting her teeth as she poured more mana into the barrier to keep it from melting under the pressure.

"Damn they weren't joking about the flames." She whispered under her breath. "They feel alive."

"Someone cover her!" Finn shouted as lightning was surging through his arm and he vanished in an instant.

He then reappeared just above in of the Cerberus's heads and slashes his sword downward.

"Thunder Fang!"

His sword was tearing through the air like it was a bolt of lightning, the attack hit the beasts neck and the sword released a violent crack of electricity.

The Cerberus only staggered briefly from the attack—but the beasts other side head retaliated immediately, as it exhaled a wave of hellfire upward.

"Shi—!

Finn had barely anytime to react as the blast caught him while he was still in mid-air.

BOOM!

An explosion occured with sent him hurling back, he slammed against a nearby tree as smoke was rising from his scorched clothing leaving burns, but he still managed to land on his feet, panting. "Damn... That thing almost fried me to a crisp."

Eve immediately jumped to his side, her rapier was also glowing.

She pressed the tip of the rapier to his chest, as it release a wave of cooling mana that soothed his burns.

"Don't reckless." She said.

"Yeah I know." Finn replied but with a weak grin.

The Cerberus didn't want to give them anytime to breath as it started lunging forward, its tails were now whipping like molten chains.

"Shit, not good!" Drake shouted as he raised his sword up again. "Everyone, get down!"

He then swung his blade in a wide arc. "Wind Surge!"

A wave of wind was blasted outward, as it deflected two of it's tails but one slipped through the attack, and struck Drake squarely on his chest and it knocked him back several meters.

BOOM!

He crashed on the ground and dust started to form. "Cough cough." Drake coughed as he clutched his ribs in pain, but he quickly recovered.

"Okay," Duke muttered, his voice low but steady. "No more playing around around."

That's when the light in his palm started to grow brighter until it formed into a radiant sword of pure energy.

"Luminous Blade!"

He started dashing forward, as he moved faster than his legs could carry.

Each of his swings sent light trailing in his wake, searing through the flesh of the Cerebus each time it struck.

The beast was now howling in pain as the holy energy was burning through its corrupt hide.

Seeing seeing Duke grinned grimly. "That's right... you don't like it don't you?"

Adam saw the opening and room charge. "Freeze it's legs now! Eve!"

Even nodded as her rapier flared with white light as she stabbed if into the ground.

"Ice Bind!"

Pillars of ice started to erupt around it's legs, as they were now frozen in place. Frost was climbing up it's body, as steamed was hissing due to the fire and ice coming into contact.

"We have the advantage, Drake knock it's big ass down!" Adam shouted.

"Hahahaha! With Pleasure."

Drake's eyes glowed green as he launched himself forward, wind was spinning around his greatsword like a swirling tornado.

"Tempest Dive."

The attack struck the beast in it's middle chest, it was forced back a few steps—just enough to expose its core heart.

"Finn, do it now!"

Lightning was erupting around him once more, shooting forward like a lightning bolt.

His sword was glowing intensely, as he roared:

"Thunder Execution!"

The blade successfully pieced through one of it's hearts, lightning flooded the beasts entering body.

The Cerberus started to convulse violently as it's roars of pain were echoing through the whole dungeon.

But even with that it still wasn't enough.

All of The Cerberus's heads turned towards the group, its flames were now burning even darker—black, violet, and green were now merging and fusing together into one cataclysmic inferno.

Adam's eyes narrowed and saw the incoming blast. "Fall back, everyone!"

The others obeyed without question and fell back immediately.

Adam stepped forward towards the beast alone, his sword was now humming with violet energy.

"I know, you've been itching for this haven't you." Adam spoke to his sword as it hummed and glowed more intensity in response.

Adam just lightly chuckled to himself as he exhaled slowly, his silver hair was fluttering in the heat. "Okay my turn."

His body was gleaming with dark scales as they covered his whole body up until his neck, since he was Infront of them they didn't see this transformation.

His pupils became slit as he let out a small growl, steam coming out his mouth as he exhaled.

He then thrust his blade forward — and space itself rippled in response.

The whole world around him started to distort as the violet energy spiraled from his sword, it froze the air and bended light.

Ice crystals started to form in mid-air, as they orbited him like stars.

"Okay time to use this new move I developed." Adam said to himself.

His sword hummed even louder, the violet mana shinning brighter as the ice crystals also started to shimmer.

"Spatial Sever: Frozen Horizon."

The Cerberus then unleashed the combined hellfire, it was a roaring sea of destruction—but Adam met it head on, he just slashed once, cutting cleanly through the attack.

For a single heartbeat, the whole world froze.

Then—

SHRRRACK!

There was a perfect shimmering line that cut across the Cerberus's entire body.

The air distorted once more and from within that line, ice started to spread like wildfire.

The beast tried to roar but froze mid-motuon, each one of it's heads was crystalizing into obsidian ice.

The combined hellfire was extinguished leaving nothing of it's existence remaining.

The ground started to shake for one last time as the Cerberus's massive body shattered—breaking it apart into thousands of ice fragments that disappeared into nothingness.

Adam just exhaled slowly, his scales retracted and his singed skin healed instantly, he just sheathed back his sword as it's humming stopped.

"... That was close," he muttered. "But that was a blast."

Drake let out a whistle. "Damn remind me to never piss you off."

"Heh, are you sure your human? Your not a dragon in disguise are you?" Finn said with a smirk

Adam flinched a bit when Finn said that 'He almost hit the mark'.

Adam just chuckled lightly brushing it off.

"Barely" Eve said as she smiled faintly, she was busy brushing off frost off her rapier.

"Well bro, now we finished our task, hope we won the bet too."

Duke said as he approached, he clutched his sword to his side and grinned widely.

Adam just looked at him and said. "I bet we did." As he looked back at the forest.

They all walked in unison as the forest hummed once more as they got teleported out the dungeon
