Nine days and nights passed quickly before my companions and I finally returned to the capital, Nuzantra. Not much had happened during the journey — not even a single monster dared to attack us. Perhaps the presence of Langit kept them at bay. On the tenth day, we finally arrived at the capital.
"Milady, the city is in sight," Abi called out from the driver's seat.
"Really? Daisy, would you like to see it?"
When I pointed out the view of Nuzantra's capital to Daisy, her eyes were filled with awe. A small smile formed at the corner of her lips.
A few minutes later, we reached the city gate. As always, Nuzantra was bustling with people coming and going. Our first destination upon entering the city was the Nuzantra Magic Academy. Once there, we headed straight for the headmaster's office. I had tried to contact them beforehand, but only Rania replied, telling me to come to her office. When I opened the door…
"Mother!"
"Mom!"
"Emak!"
"Welcome back!" the three of them shouted at once.
"Oh, so Bartasz and Radhimar are here too… Don't you two have work?"
"There's no way we'd miss the chance to see you, Mother," Radhimar answered excitedly.
"Brother, at least come up with a better excuse. Don't be that honest," Bartasz sighed, shaking his head.
"By the way, Mom, is she our new little sister?" Rania asked.
"Oh, right. This is Daisy, your new little sister. And Daisy, these three are your older siblings."
"Dai…sy," Daisy murmured, shy and hesitant.
"Waaah, she's adorable!" Rania exclaimed.
"Yes, truly adorable," Bartasz added.
"Welcome to the Oberyth family, my dear little sister Daisy!" Radhimar declared dramatically, kneeling in front of her, biting a rose between his teeth, and striking a pose like a poet.
Daisy flinched and turned pale, quickly hiding behind me.
SMACK!
Radhimar collapsed to the floor with a bump on his head from my swift flick.
"Don't scare her like that," I scolded. "Come, Daisy, let's sit."
Daisy and I sat on the sofa, and I introduced Abiyasa to them as well. We exchanged stories — or rather, I did most of the talking. I told them everything that had happened to Daisy and the tragedy at Sivanto Village.
"…"
After hearing my story, Rania and Bartasz's expressions shifted from cheerful to serious. Even Radhimar, who had been lying on the floor, quickly sat back up, his face solemn. Silence filled the room, broken only by the sound of our hearts beating.
PLOP!
"That's enough sadness. I don't want Daisy to be gloomy because of us."
"Oh, right, has Rima returned?" I asked.
After my question, their faces slowly returned to normal, though a faint sadness still lingered.
"Not yet, Mom. Mama Rima hasn't returned," Bartasz replied.
"I see… In that case, we'll be heading home."
"Mom! Already?! I still miss you!" Radhimar shouted dramatically.
"Daisy still needs to rest after such a long journey," I replied, gently stroking Daisy's head as she slept on my lap.
After chatting for a while, I said my goodbyes and we made our way back home to Lake Dewata. On the way, the warm breeze I had felt before had turned cooler, accompanied by orange leaves slowly drifting down from the trees.
"I'm home!" I called as I stepped down from the carriage.
"Welcome back, Milady," Lusserina greeted me as she swept the yard.
"How have you been, Lu?"
"I've been doing well, Milady," she replied politely.
"Any important visitors while I was away?"
"None, Milady."
"Buyers, perhaps?"
"The only ones who came were Elise and her group. They came by several times looking for you," Lusserina explained.
"When was the last time they came?"
"I see… Thank you for taking care of the place while I was gone."
"Oh, Milady, you're too polite," Lusserina replied with a gentle smile.
I entered the house. Abi carried Daisy upstairs and laid her in Rania's old room. I also introduced Abi to Lusserina.
"Lu, this is Abiyasa. Starting today, he'll be part of the Oberyth family. He'll also help you with the housework."
Abi bowed politely as I introduced him.
"Since he's not familiar with the area yet, please show him what needs to be done."
"Of course, Milady," Lusserina replied.
After that, Lusserina showed Abi around the house and the grounds. Now she had someone to share the workload with. I often felt bad watching her do everything alone. I had wanted to help her, but she always refused, saying I was her mistress. However, if another servant helped her, I was sure she wouldn't refuse.
A few minutes later, I heard the soft sound of footsteps. When I turned toward the stairs, it was Daisy.
"Sweetheart, you're awake?"
Daisy nodded quietly.
"Come here, dear…" I called softly.
She walked over to the dining table and sat beside me. On the way, her eyes wandered curiously around the unfamiliar house.
"I wanted to show you your new home earlier, but you were asleep. Would you like to do it now?"
Daisy nodded again.
"Let's go! I'll show you my favorite spot too."
I took her small hand and guided her through the house, starting from the shopfront. As I introduced each room, I explained its purpose.
A big smile spread across Daisy's face when she saw Rania's room. The feminine atmosphere made her fall in love with it at first sight.
"This will be your room. Later, we can remodel it however you like."
We continued our little tour through other rooms until we arrived at mine — the master bedroom. I walked over to the glass door leading to the balcony.
"Daisy, come here!" I waved.
As we stood on the balcony, the breeze gently brushed our skin and played with our hair. When Daisy saw the lake from above…
"Waaah…" she gasped in wonder.
Her face lit up again, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Seeing her like that somehow calmed my heart. As she gazed at the scenery, she suddenly turned her head toward a certain spot. There, she saw Abiyasa and Lusserina standing on the wooden pier. Abi waved when he noticed us, while Lusserina gave a polite nod.
"Would you like to see the lake up close?" I asked.
This time, Daisy nodded eagerly. I took her hand once more, and we headed down to the backyard where Lusserina and Abi were waiting.
A month passed since our return home — and since Daisy became part of the Oberyth family. During the first week, she was extremely shy and clung to me wherever I went, whether I was sleeping or reading. But thanks to Abi and Lusserina's efforts, by the second week, Daisy had warmed up to them and no longer depended on me as much as before.
Twice a week, I took her to the capital for walks and shopping. I also introduced her to many new places and foods… and of course, we bought her new clothes.
Watching Daisy smile and run around filled me with deep emotion. She reminded me of my cousin when she was little. Seeing her laugh like that warmed my heart. It had been so long since I'd felt such peace.
From the backyard, Daisy was learning how to weave flowers into a crown with Lusserina, waving at me as I sat on the back porch.
Since returning from Sivanto Village, my children told me that preparations for the new house were complete. The land and building materials were ready. But ever since Daisy joined us, I had started rethinking that plan.
The reason was simple: this place was too far from the capital. For me and the others, that wasn't a problem. But for Daisy — a small child — a two-hour trip to the city would be too much. Moreover, she had no friends her age here, something that worried me deeply. Because of that, I began to consider the possibility of moving to the capital.
[One night after dinner at Luna's house]
Not long after dinner, Abi carried Daisy, who had fallen asleep after a full day of activities. Meanwhile, I sat at the dining table, discussing things with my children under the warm glow of the lamps.
"Hmm, Mother's right…" Rania murmured.
"At her age, she really needs friends her age," Radhimar added.
"Should I look for a house in the capital or nearby? Or should we build a new one close to the city?" Bartasz asked. "But construction might only be possible in spring."
"Oh? Why wait until spring?"
"Winter weather is unpredictable, Mom. If a storm hits, all the work could be delayed."
"I see… That means I still have time to think about it."
"I'll also ask my contacts," Rania offered.
"I'll speak with the royal court, too. They might be able to help," Radhimar added.
"Thank you, everyone."
"Mother, you're too formal. Of course, we'll help our beloved mom," Radhimar said with a grin.
"Brother's right! If you need anything, just ask us — though I'm not sure how much I can help, hahaha," Rania added, laughing awkwardly.
"This is already more than enough. Thank you again."
[The Next Morning]
As usual, I woke up and stretched my lazy body. I walked to the window, and when I pulled the curtains open… something white was gently falling from the sky.
"Snow! It must have started falling last night while I was asleep," I murmured.
I walked to Daisy's room and found her still sound asleep. Then I went downstairs.
"Good morning, Lu!" I greeted.
"Good morning, Milady," Lusserina replied. "I'll prepare something warm to drink."
I sat at the dining table, gazing out the window. Lusserina brought me a cup of hot chocolate. As I was watching the falling snow, I heard the soft sound of footsteps — Daisy had woken up.
"Sweetheart, come here. Look out the window."
When Daisy looked outside, her eyes widened with excitement.
"Sno…ow!" she whispered in delight.
After that, Daisy sat beside me and drank the hot chocolate Lusserina had prepared.
It's a little less than a month until the Festival of the Moon Goddess begins. This year, I want to make it truly special — especially for Daisy. I can hardly wait.
