Chapter 54: The City Captured by the Abyss

Through the abyssal rift, Jiang He’s connection with Old Jiang had not disappeared.

He was still able to sense the presence of the Heroic Spirit and communicate through consciousness.

“Old Jiang, what’s it like in there?”

“Mirror world. Smells a bit foul… looks like a buffer zone.”

Old Jiang covered his nose, his face full of displeasure.

After crossing the rift, what lay on the other side was still Yinyin Road. Even the decorations inside the roadside shops were exactly the same, like a reflection of reality.

Only, above the street there was no longer a bright blue sky, but rather something like an overturned black giant bowl. Its walls were rugged and filled with holes, and the bottom of the bowl had been shattered, stretching infinitely into the distance, with no end in sight.

This strange space was filled with the stench of rot and death.

For Old Jiang, who possessed the dual abilities of 【Savior】 and 【Eraser】, entering here was like a toilet cleaner falling into a toilet—professional match, yet utterly revolting.

So this was the Boundless Abyss? Didn’t look very abyss-like.

With a thought, Old Jiang flew into the air, spinning his body.

In an instant, heaven and earth reversed.

The overturned giant bowl turned into a bottomless abyss beneath his feet.

Above, the mirrored Central State City seemed to be falling from the sky, about to plunge entirely into the abyss!

“You came too.” Golden-red flames flew from afar and stopped above Yinyin Road. Zhong Honglian resumed her form.

She had just sensed the fluctuation of the rift, realizing someone had followed closely behind into this place.

Yet, even as her spirit swept across the area, she still could not detect the presence of the white-haired man.

Such terrifying concealment was enough to make one’s hair stand on end.

Suppressing her unease, Zhong Honglian said: “I just made a round and discovered that the range of this mirror world is limited only to Central State City.”

“In addition, aside from the rift on Yinyin Road, there are also many spatially weak spots within the city that may generate new rifts.”

“Do you know what that means?”

After finishing, she paused for a few seconds. No response came.

Just when she thought the other party had no intention of replying, a figure revealed itself before her eyes.

A man in white-haired ceremonial attire, his face still blurred.

Arms folded, he hung upside down in mid-air, saying: “Central State City has been captured.”

“If this continues, the entire city will be torn apart and reduced to a pathway leading into the abyss.”

Zhong Honglian’s expression turned grim.

She had never imagined such a hidden danger lurking beneath Central State City.

Once it erupted, the whole city would be destroyed in an instant!

Worse still, humanity would inevitably come into direct contact with the demons, igniting a full-scale war with the unknown abyss!

Luckily, she had noticed this ahead of time.

But still…

Even if she had, how could the Council possibly stop the abyss from descending?

What’s more, the first place the Abyss of Demons had appeared wasn’t Central State City, but the Abyss Strait.

Who knew if, aside from Central State City, other places might also suffer the same fate?

Her thoughts in turmoil, Zhong Honglian descended: “Let’s return and report to the Council first…”

As she dropped down, a sudden alarm surged in her heart. A lotus of fire bloomed abruptly.

Yet, as the light spread, it failed to illuminate the dark city. Instead, it revealed an enormous black shadow, almost covering the entire city.

At the very moment it was discovered, the shadow flowed like a collapsing sky and struck suddenly!

A shrill laugh echoed across the night sky.

“Powerhouses of Central State City, to dare trespass in my domain—you’ll stay here!”

Flames instantly swept across the city, evaporating countless skyscrapers as they clashed with the shadows, though just barely falling behind.

“A-rank demon.” Zhong Honglian’s fiery red hair blazed, her pupils glowing golden.

This was the same demon Jiang He had reported, claiming it was close to S-rank?

One of her reasons for entering here had been to gather intel on this very demon.

Indeed, it was powerful, and it had the ability to manipulate shadows, making it difficult to detect.

Fortunately, it seemed it could not freely leave the abyss, only leaking traces of its aura to probe the outside world…

At this moment, recalling Jiang He’s report, Zhong Honglian sneered.

“So this is the one claiming to be stronger than me? Pathetic.”

With that, her flames surged sky-high, instantly overwhelming the shadows, igniting even the darkness itself.

“We’ll soon see who is stronger.”

The voice rang out again, not from the shadows, but from behind Zhong Honglian.

Darkness flowed into a massive claw, lunging at the white-haired man beside her.

“But before that, let me have a taste first…”

A teleportation through darkness?

Zhong Honglian had no time to react, preparing to unleash a skill to block the attack—

But at that moment, the white-haired man spoke.

He said.

「Invalid」

Arms folded, the white-haired man stood motionless in mid-air, treating the oncoming strike as nothing.

Instead, the giant shadow claw collapsed and dissolved the instant it touched him.

The attack ended. The white-haired man was unharmed, not even his clothes soiled.

Zhong Honglian’s pupils contracted.

One single Word-Spirit, taking an A-rank attack head-on—without even mussing his hair?!

Even she would never dare block an attack so directly!

What kind of strength was this? Invincible below S-rank?

As Zhong Honglian stood stunned, the shadow demon was even more shaken.

At that moment, it recalled the experience of its clone and once again felt the sensation of being forcibly “erased.” Looking at the white-haired man was like facing its natural 「Nemesis」!

“It’s you! How can you be this strong!”

“No—you’re not him. Who are you!”

With a furious roar, the shadow receded like a tide, dissipating.

Only a small remnant condensed into a humanoid shadow, standing far off from the two.

Its voice carried from afar: “Forget it, I’ll let you go today. I have more important matters to attend to.”

“Oh, and since you are human powerhouses, I’ll give you a warning…”

“Doom is coming, destruction is coming!”

“The existence that will bring ruin to the world is not in the Boundless Abyss, but in the present world.”

“You’d better stop Him in advance, otherwise the Sovereign will descend with the Boundless Abyss and strike personally.”

With that, as if afraid of pursuit, it instantly vanished from sight.

“The World Destroyer is on Blue Star…”

Zhong Honglian withdrew her flames and returned to normal, brows furrowed.

From the demon’s words, it seemed they greatly feared the “World Destroyer,” warning humans again and again to stop Him.

And yet, they had no intention of joining forces with humanity against the World Destroyer—instead, they had attacked her directly…

“Forget it. Demons think differently from humans to begin with.”

“Knowing the information is enough.”

She looked toward the white-haired man, suppressing her unease: “Let’s go back.”

Outside the rift, on Yinyin Road.

Hearing 「Close」, Zhong Honglian saw the rift seal shut from top to bottom and could not help but exclaim in admiration.

“No wonder it’s called Word-Spirit.”

Nullifying attacks, controlling space…

No wonder it was called the almighty S-rank talent. Truly formidable!

Jiang He, hearing this, looked at Old Jiang standing invisibly by the rift, pinching it closed with his fingers, and fell silent.

To pair words with actions, casually saying them aloud to pretend it was a Word-Spirit ability and bluffing through…

No wonder it was Word-Spirit.
