Chapter 45: The Battle Between Eagle and Python
Having shaken off Mo Lin, Xu Jiaren was stealthily sneaking around inside the bandit stronghold.
Even though he had already distanced himself from Mo Lin, Xu Jiaren could still see those vast, sky-covering wings launching two charges in the air.
“Tsk Tsk, looks like that Python Demon really does have some skill, huh? Even the Profound Eagle has suffered a loss at its hands?”
Xu Jiaren clearly saw that the Bandit Chief’s Profound Eagle, after its second strike, had lost more than half of its feathers—so much that it was even affecting its ability to fly.
Xu Jiaren couldn’t help but feel a bit of admiration. For a Python Demon to dare break into the Black Wind Stronghold—it truly had some ability.
“But this works out nicely. With the two of them locked in battle, it’ll be easier for me to escape.”
Just then, a sharp sound split the air, and Xu Jiaren only had time to instinctively raise “Kouque” with his right hand.
“Clang!!”
The next moment, a feathered arrow as thick as a baby’s arm shot through the air and struck squarely against the blade of “Kouque.”
“Kouque” was sent flying on impact.
The poison of Mo Lin had already spread throughout Xu Jiaren’s body.
Even running on his own, he felt his body weak and shaky, worried that a single misstep on a stone would send him tumbling. Naturally, it was even harder for him to resist the force of the arrow.
Xu Jiaren glared hatefully in the direction the arrow had come from:
“Black Wind Stronghold’s Bandit Chief!”
A hundred meters away, the nameless Bandit Chief of Black Wind Stronghold stood holding a great bow, a mocking grin on his face as he looked at Xu Jiaren:
“Little beauty, where do you think you’re going?”
The Chief had originally been planning to go assist his “Pearl,” but on his way, he happened to spot Xu Jiaren trying to sneak away.
He had never been worried about Pearl handling the Python Demon. So when he saw his “runaway bride,” he immediately changed his mind.
He would capture his “runaway bride” first, and then head for the treasure vault.
Looking at Xu Jiaren a hundred meters away, the Chief only felt his body burning with desire:
“Little beauty, I think you should stay. Stay here in my Black Wind Stronghold and marry me. I promise I’ll treat you well.”
Xu Jiaren cursed furiously:
“Fuck your mother’s balls! With that scruffy beard of yours, you think you can shove it up my ass?”
“I’d rather stab my own chrysanthemum to pieces with ‘Kouque’ than let you have your way!”
Back in Xu Jiaren’s hand, “Kouque” let out a strange buzzing sound, almost as if voicing its own protest.
The Bandit Chief sneered:
“Don’t worry, I won’t rough you up too much. But in order to keep you here, you may have to suffer a little pain.”
With that, he drew his bow once more, string pulled tight like a full moon.
The next instant, the bowstring thundered like a clap of lightning.
……
While everyone in the Black Wind Stronghold was busy, a Bear Demon had found the perfect vantage point to comfortably watch the battle between eagle and python not far away.
“Tsk Tsk, I guess some natural racial disadvantages really can’t be overcome, huh?”
The Bear Demon lay sprawled in his viewing spot, scratching his belly:
“Although that second move was fierce enough to barely fight Pearl to a draw, that alone isn’t enough to defeat the Profound Eagle.”
“Is that really all the ability it has?”
“If so, that’d be quite the disappointment for Buddha.”
The Bear Demon looked at Mo Lin, who was still provoking Pearl, and grinned:
“Heh, such a fiery temper. Show some real skill, let Buddha see what tricks you’ve still got hidden.”
“As long as I figure out all your cards, then when the time comes, heh heh……”
……
Mo Lin let out a provocative hiss at the Profound Eagle above.
The eagle, having lost so many feathers, was already burning with fury from such humiliation.
Now, to be provoked by a python?
In its eyes, a python was nothing more than prey it normally hunted—sometimes even just a plaything.
And prey dared to provoke it?
Even knowing Mo Lin was a Profound Python, its years as the ruler of the skies had long made it arrogant beyond compare.
It could not tolerate standing idle in the face of its prey’s mockery.
So, without hesitation, it launched its third assault.
Watching the Profound Eagle become more aggressive under his provocation, Mo Lin’s vertical pupils glimmered with cold light.
“Closer, closer, just a bit closer.”
As the Profound Eagle dove at him, Mo Lin remained motionless, silently counting the distance between them.
“Closer, closer……”
For the Profound Eagle Pearl, it was only about a second’s worth of dive distance. But in Mo Lin’s eyes, that distance stretched endlessly.
When the Profound Eagle swooped to what seemed an unavoidable strike, Mo Lin roared inwardly:
“Now!”
A jet of purple-black venom suddenly spewed from Mo Lin’s mouth, splattering across the eagle’s face.
“Caw!”
The eagle, confident this strike would finish Mo Lin, had never expected that the python demon—already comparable to it in size—could also wield poison, and even spit it!
It was caught completely off guard.
No matter how it flapped, its distance from Mo Lin only shrank further and further.
And blinded by venom, it could no longer see Mo Lin at all.
Mo Lin, who had been preparing all along, lashed out with his coiled tail like lightning, piercing straight through one of the eagle’s wings.
Blinded, the eagle thrashed in panic.
But Mo Lin gave it no chance.
His tail, having punctured Pearl’s wing, coiled back around, binding the eagle once more.
The Profound Eagle again tried to use the same trick, attempting to struggle free from Mo Lin’s “embrace.”
But it failed to notice that Mo Lin’s human-faced serpent head had silently drawn close to its neck, baring fangs that gleamed with cold light.
From a distance, the Bear Demon, watching every detail of the eagle-python battle, suddenly sat bolt upright, mouth wide open:
“No way! You’re such a massive snake, and you still use poison? That’s too low!”
The Bear Demon stood up, stomping in agitation:
“Well, well, well, no wonder they call pythons cunning. Back when you fought Buddha, you actually hid this trick.”
“And venom that can even be spat out, no less.”
“Good thing Buddha had the sense to stop fighting once he realized you were a Profound Python.”
“Otherwise, that move might have landed on Buddha instead!”
“Luring it to the Black Wind Stronghold to fight the Profound Eagle really was the right choice.”
After a round of stomping, the Bear Demon suddenly clapped his paws:
“No good! Even though I’ve now seen through that sly Profound Python’s trump card, it’ll definitely come after me later for revenge.”
“I need to think of a way to make sure it spares me when that time comes.”
His massive frame froze, and with one paw rubbing his chin, he muttered:
“Or should I strike first, while it’s badly wounded after fighting the eagle?”
As the Bear Demon pondered his next move, Mo Lin had already injected venom into the Profound Eagle’s body.
Blinded, the eagle struggled desperately, but its strength failed it.
With the eagle’s physical resilience, it was impossible for the venom to kill it instantly.
But with so much poison coursing through its veins, it was already reeling, unable to take flight.
Mo Lin’s serpent eyes glimmered with ghostly light. His tail lashed forward, stabbing directly into the grounded eagle.
With one twist, he ripped out a still-beating heart.
Before the Profound Eagle could even take its last breath, it heard only the python demon’s chilling whisper:
“Eagles eat snakes, snakes devour hearts. Such is the law of heaven and earth. On the road to the Yellow Springs, do not blame me……”
