Jayden didn't hesitate to tell Cain the new skills that she had gained by taking that fragment of Pride. However, instead of looking pleased, her man looked conflicted.
She got three skills?! From a fragment while I only got one from Gluttony who is whole?! That's actually not fair in the slightest!
Cain didn't want to admit it but he was actually jealous of Jayden. In fact, he actually felt a bit angry about the whole situation.
Then it clicked inside of his mind what was actually happening and his emotions instantly cooled as his expression became rather frosty.
Jayden looked concerned as Cain's expression experienced a myriad of changes in a short time but he raised his hand to silently tell her he was fine.
"Envy, Wrath. Don't fuck with my head!" Cain hissed quietly. The two Sins had been displeased that Pride had so quickly found a suitable host and had amplified their corresponding emotions within Cain to express their grievances.
While Cain received no verbal response from them, Cain could feel that the anger and jealousy he had felt quickly fading away. Lust had remained quiet throughout the whole ordeal, in fact from what Cain remembed, Lust had been the only one who had retained a feminine form, even if it was only as a silohuette.
Perhaps they disdained to try and manipulate a man directly? Whatever the case was, it was clear that he wasn't going to have a good nights sleep if he tried to settle the issue tomorrow.
With a sigh, Cain stood up again and pulled out his phone. He then began to walk towards his door but stopped in the entranceway and glanced over his shoulder towards Jayden.
"I'm calling the team to meet me at the Training grounds. So get ready and meet me there."
Jayden immediately nodded her head and rushed towards his room, perhaps having left a change of clothes there. Cain could feel his eye twitch as he reminded himself once again that this was his dorm but Jayden was treating it like it was her own.
He let out a sigh of defeat, already giving up on the topic as he believed that nothing would change, even if he tried. Instead his thought process changed to giving her access via the front door. At least that way she wouldn't be coming through the window.
Closing the door behind him as he left, he pulled out his phone, intending to make a few calls.
Maris was fast asleep, her body sore from the abuse she had put it through sparring with Cain. Her pride had been broken by him and she was made aware that while he looked weak, he was in fact incredibly strong.
She also loathed to admit that while she had not taken down Mira, Jayden was definitely stronger than her too.
Maris didn't have the overwhelming raw power that Jayden did, nor did whe have an iron defence like Mira and when it came to stuff like seduction and deception, she wasn't even at the starting line compared to Kiyomi.
All she had was her speed and her spear. While she did have dragon blood coursing through her veins, she had no methods to activate or use it. In other words, what she had once been proud of was actually useless.
Of course Maris would never openly admit this, instead of being resigned to mediocrity, it only served as fuel to push herself farther.
She wouldn't be satisifed until she proved herself to be stronger than Cain. That would be when she pinned him down and–
She cut herself off that line of thought as her face became flushed, embarrassed at what her mind was imagining.
She blamed the dragon blood, the reptile part of her that wished for a mate that was stronger than her.
Her duels with Cain had been the first time that she had ever lost so convincingly. She had of course lost before in spars against other students and other men around her age, but the gap had never been so extreme.
A sigh escaped her lips but was drowned in her pillow. She had vowed to serve as Cain's knight but after that embarrassing thought, she didn't know how she was going to face him tomorrow.
The ring of her cellphone going off, dragged Maris out of her contemplative struggle. She saw a message had been posted in the group chat..by Cain no less.
The text message on Maris's phone was short, to the point, and screamed urgency.
Cain: Emergency team meeting. Training grounds. Everyone needs to be there.
Maris was out of bed in a heartbeat, tossing aside the blanket and snatching up her training gear without hesitation. The message didn't say what it was about, but Cain never wasted words. If he called for everyone in the middle of the night, it meant something serious was happening.
Her first stop was to wake up the resident slacker of their dorm: Kiyomi.
However to Maris surprise, Kiyomi was already waiting outside of her room, her arms crossed in front of her chest, accentuating her 'assets' in a way that usually wouldn't tick Maris off.
However for some reason, it irritated her now.
"Im surprised you are up. Usually lazybones like you would be fast asleep." Maris said with a small smile which would result in a twitch of Kiyomi's brow.
"Yeah. Unlike a certain musclebrained fool, I know when I should be awake and when I should be asleep."
The passive aggressive behavior of the two was only going to keep escalating. Both of them wanted to meet Cain quickly and neither wished to ruin their relationship.
Kiyomi immediately tried to switch the topic to what really mattered. "Let's go get Mira and go meet Cain?"
Maris nodded curtly in agreement. The two of them exchanged a brief look before heading to their other roommate's door.
Mira.
The faint glow of a soundproofing spell hummed across the doorframe, sealing in whatever was happening inside. Maris sighed. "She's at it again."
Kiyomi smirked, mischief flashing in her eyes. "Oh, this should be fun."
Before Maris could stop her, Kiyomi twisted the handle and pushed the door open.
The barrier shattered instantly, and the sharp clang, clang, clang of metal on metal filled the air. Sparks flew as Mira brought her hammer down on a glowing blade, muscles taut beneath bronzed glistening skin.
And she was dressed in almost nothing.
A leather apron clung to her front, leaving the sides of her toned torso bare. Her only other article of clothing was a scandalously small pair of black panties. That was it.
Maris froze before whipping her head away, cheeks burning. "I… I'll be outside," she muttered stiffly.
Kiyomi, of course, stayed put, leaning casually against the doorway with a smirk curving her lips.
"Well," she drawled, voice smooth as silk, "if I knew blacksmithing came with this kind of dress code, I might have tried it years ago."
Mira didn't so much as flinch. She finished shaping the blade with a final hammer strike before setting the weapon aside and turning toward them, golden eyes calm and unreadable.
"It's hot in here," she said simply, wiping her forehead.
Kiyomi's tails flicked lazily behind her as her grin widened. "I'm sure that explains everything. Still, you might want to warn Cain before he walks in like this. Poor man might keel over before you can even say hello."
That instantly had Mira's attention as she put down her hammer and adjusted her apron and pulling up her panties a bit, the fabric snapping against her skin upon being released.
"Boss is here?!" She asked with incredulity in her voice. Why was he here so late at night? Was he trying to make her warm his bed or something? She didn't take him for that kind of man.
Just as her opinion of Cain was beginning to drop, Kiyomi let out a soft chuckle.
"No he isn't here. He just called us to head to the training grounds. Apparently he has something important to tell us~! Everyone is supposed to attend. So I suggest you get dressed properly unless you want to have a reputation like mine~!"
Mira let go of the breath that she didn't know that she was holding. Relief washed over her as she realized that her opinion of Cain hadn't been proven wrong.
She also ignored the small part of het that had been disappointed that she hadn't been wrong. However, she also knew that Cain had a girlfriend in Jayden. She had no intention of ruining her relationship with someone who loved her work, especially over a man.
Mira quickly pulled on a shirt, some shorts and boots while Maris waited outside, arms crossed. Kiyomi hummed softly, clearly entertained by the whole scene. Within moments, the three girls were ready and heading toward the training grounds together, the weight of Cain's urgent message heavy on their minds.
