The King of Black Fog

Chapter 349: Guanyin in the Modern Era?_2

If it were truly Guanyin who had lost her Dao Fruit, reincarnation would make her just an ordinary person.

Before reaching the status of a Human Immortal, she might have been able to rely on her memories to quickly regain her cultivation, but she would still need to cross the Human Tribulation. The stronger the cultivation, the more substantial the foundation, and the more formidable the Human Tribulation.

Of course, if not reincarnated in modern times, she would truly be an ordinary person.

After the Ming Dynasty, there had not been a single Human Immortal between heaven and earth. They either died fighting for the increasingly depleted spiritual energy or were killed by players from the past.

According to Xiao Yue's explanation, these are all parallel worlds. So, who killed this world's Human Immortals, Earth Immortals, Heavenly Immortals, and even Saints?

Players from parallel worlds?

Do players also have parallel worlds?

Complex, hard to understand, even paradoxical, the rules of this world are a mess of chaos.

Hmm?

Buzhou Mountain, Buzhou Mountain, Buzhou, Buzhou, incomplete; heaven and earth were inherently incomplete...

"You make sense, but 'No Self' is just one of Buddhism's concepts. Those who cultivate 'No Self' naturally would not reincarnate," Guanyin responded.

"What does Bodhisattva cultivate?"

"Great compassion, great mercy, universal salvation." Guanyin sighed faintly, "Everything is already in the past. Now that I have lost all my mana, fallen from my position, heavenly and human, I have not decided which path I shall take next."

"A person's life is sure to have regrets," Li Changzhou consoled, "which is why compromise is necessary. Refusing to compromise is merely making things difficult for oneself, a kind of folly, and moreover, it shows ignorance of the Heavenly Dao—so, Bodhisattva, if you are to reincarnate, you ought to do so soon and stop lingering around me."

Guanyin, who had just been reflecting on life, laughed after hearing this, and her orchid fingers playfully pointed at Li Changzhou.

"You are quite clever, youngster, but I mean you no harm, so don't try to confuse my intentions with your words.

"Buddhist followers establish clear rules and precepts to discipline themselves, aiming for higher goals until these habits become second nature. If even a proper disciple of Buddhism does so, imagine how much more I do?

"I have already found my utmost aspiration. External honors, power, and words have no impact on me, no matter how much you say."

"Then what is your utmost aspiration? Great compassion, great mercy, relieving the suffering, universal salvation?" Li Changzhou asked.

"What is the goal of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva?" Guanyin asked with a smile.

Li Changzhou thought for a moment and said, "I thought you truly had no desires."

"No desires, yet which Buddhist disciple does not aspire to become a Buddha?" Rather than responding to Li Changzhou, Guanyin seemed to be mocking herself.

"Is it difficult to become a Buddha?"

"Difficult, difficult, difficult." Repeating 'difficult' three times, Guanyin said, "I must save all sentient beings to become a Buddha; Hell is not empty, so Ksitigarbha cannot become Buddha. When Sun Wukong mastered the Seventy-two Transformations, attained eternal life, and even ascended the Palace of the Polestar, with these, he aimed for a heavenly position, which became a laughing stock to all."

"So, could you achieve Buddhahood in modern times?"

"Also difficult, but it depends on human effort."

"For someone like you, there must be a detailed plan, not just thinking about 'sneaking into the modern era'? What are you planning to do next, or rather, what do you want me to do?"

Li Changzhou was unsure if Guanyin truly had something for him to do, or if she merely saw him as a vessel to smuggle herself into the modern era.

"I cannot do anything, and nothing can affect me. Destiny is already determined; I can only reincarnate."

After a pause, Guanyin added to Li Changzhou: "I want you to choose a good birth for me."

Birth is indeed very important, so important that if one could choose it during reincarnation, most people would opt for a good one—Buddha was born a prince, and in some stories, Guanyin was a princess.

"I would be more than happy to oblige."

Guanyin smiled gently, knowing that he just wanted to send her off quickly.

"Bodhisattva," Li Changzhou eagerly said, "I know of two races: one is 'Second Gap', whose appearance is identical to Earth humans, and after reaching adulthood, they are guaranteed to receive a territory of at least a one-second difference; the other is the Divine Race, namely the one that can summon Ancient Gods and see the potentials of the future—these are all excellent lineages."

Li Changzhou transmitted all these memories into Guanyin's mind, including how substantial a one-second difference was and the abilities of Si.

Wait...

Hadn't Guanyin said that nothing could affect her? If so, why could "teleportation" do so?

Was she lying?

Or was it because this was Li Changzhou's own mind, which helped to facilitate the transfer of memories? Or perhaps, was the 'teleportation' inherently powerful?

Li Changzhou tried transmitting the Finger Force of the Soul Extinguishing Finger... it had no effect.

Guanyin murmured thoughtfully, "There's no rush. The Divine Will Great Wall is boundless, surpassing even the ancient heavens and earth in vastness. Both 'Second Gap' and 'Divine Race' are indeed excellent, but they might not be the most suitable."

"In time, I plan to seek Si and will inquire about the special races at the Divine Will Great Wall. Bodhisattva can choose at will then."

"Thank you." Guanyin smiled as she bowed slightly, "Meanwhile, allow me to impart some guidance to you."

Even though her demeanor was now that of an ordinary beautiful woman, her speech remained extraordinary, daring to guide the premier person of modern Earth.

But whose guidance from Guanyin wouldn't be coveted?

If given the choice, Li Changzhou would prefer not to receive guidance and have Guanyin leave his mind on her own, but now that she was inside, what could he say? He could only enjoy it.

"Bodhisattva," Li Changzhou spoke up, "about the 'Ancient God' you mentioned earlier, what is that about?"

At the mention of the Ancient God, Guanyin's expression also showed solemnity.

"I do not know what it is," she pondered, "as soon as it appeared beyond the heavens, it began devouring everything: spiritual energy, flesh and blood, material, all aspects of human life, all becoming its strength."
