The King of Black Fog

Chapter 229: Transferring the Five Elements Balancing Yin and Yang

"Former Admiral? And now?"

"Left Wing Commanding General!"

The siblings looked towards Yang Qinglan; whether it was the Admiral or the Left Wing Commanding General, neither of them knew anything about those titles.

Their impression of the late Ming Dynasty consisted only of Emperor Chongzhen hanging himself on Mei Mountain—an understanding enhanced by various romance novels about Li Zicheng, Wu Sangui, and Chen Yuanyuan's scandals (just like "Zhen Huan's Story," not to be taken as actual history).

Yang Qinglan lived up to expectations, vouching with a pondering voice:

"We are in a time of dynastic transition, where the value of military rank has generally declined. Nanming has a plethora of dukes and marquises, and military structures have also shrunk—a 'command' has a fixed quantity of allocation, and one can also recruit manpower. Besides that, if a soldier of one commander dies, another commander inherits them, another escapes, yet another takes over... On average, about a thousand men."

"A thousand men, that's not bad, akin to our high school principal," said Li Qianxia.

"High school principal..." Li Changzhou was at a loss for words.

"What's the matter!" Li Qianxia snapped, patting his shoulder, "The principal is pretty impressive, you know. Imagine, the principal leading all the teachers and students to beat you up, aren't you afraid?"

"Afraid, very afraid," Li Changzhou replied perfunctorily. He was the favorite student of his high school principal, who was so fond of him that he nearly introduced his daughter—who was studying next door—to him... so that he could tutor her.

Li Changzhou turned to Huang An: "Where is Prince Yanping?"

Huang An scoffed, "Cut the crap! Huang An in the hands of you demons—kill or maim me as you please!"

He closed his eyes, indicating there was no need for further conversation.

"That's a real man," Li Changzhou waved, signaling his followers to release him.

"Behave yourself!" Just as the followers relaxed their grip, Huang An slapped the ground with his palms and kicked off the deck, pouncing like a vicious wolf.

Thud!

Huang An hit the mast, his entire body wracked with such excruciating pain that he convulsively lost control of his body.

The soldiers and followers were dumbfounded; they had only seen Huang An suddenly move, and the next moment, found him slumped at the foot of the mast.

A soldier retrieving a head from the mast flinched so badly that the head dropped, bouncing twice on the deck with a "thud! thud!" before rolling away.

Only after the sound of the head had ceased did the people on deck come to their senses. The followers cursed as they marched over.

"Damn it! Still not behaving!"

"Dare to offend the Dharma King, kill him!"

"Break his limbs and throw him into the sea!"

"Cease," Li Changzhou spoke.

The followers immediately fell silent, more obedient than a player.

"A true man indeed," Li Changzhou regarded Huang An, who was clutching his chest. "I... I am the Penglai Immortal, known as the East Sea Dharma King, who has cultivated on the island for 361 years. Under the order of the Gu She Fairy, I have come forth to aid Prince Yanping."

Huang An, enduring the pain, snorted disdainfully and turned to look at the soldiers on the warship who dared not act.

"Scared to death?" he bellowed.

The hoarse voice sounded as if there was a knife lodged in his throat, sending shivers down one's spine.

All the soldiers trembled as though that cry of 'scared to death' were a thunderclap.

Their gazes towards Li Changzhou and the others became wary and restless once again.

Yang Qinglan trailed her finger, drawing a wisp of white qi, and pointed towards the sea surface. The waves that just began to rise froze into ice, and the chill spread rapidly, soon creating an icy path across the sea.

The warm sun, the blue sky, the azure sea, the white icy surface, all shrouded with a chilling mist, dazzling and magnificent as if it were a painting.

Bang!

A soldier's sword fell onto the deck.

Moments later, the warship turned and headed for Penghu.

On Zheng Chenggong's flagship, in the steering cabin.

The door was flung open, and a gale carrying heavy rain eagerly swept inside.

Four people entered, led by Huang An, with three others in tow.

The eyes of all the officers and soldiers were immediately drawn to these three, who, among a group used to the hardships of war, appeared almost luminescent in their splendid garments and an air of exalted virtue.

Li Changzhou and his companions were also sizing up the national hero Zheng Chenggong.

He wore a General's scarf and a cloak over his armor, resembling a scholar—a popular style among Ming Dynasty military leaders.

"Your Highness!" Huang An saluted.

Zheng Chenggong glanced at the three, then turned his attention to Huang An: "Why are you here instead of guarding the seas?"

"Reporting to Your Highness..." Huang An hesitated, "This man claims to be an Immortal from Penglai Island, known as the East Sea Dharma King, sent by the Gu She Fairy to assist Your Highness in reclaiming Treasure Island!"

The cabin fell silent for a moment while the storm outside seemed to intensify.

"Huang An!" Wu Hao, Admiral of the Rear, burst out, slapping the table as he stood, "What nonsense are you spouting! You were ordered to secure the sea lanes, but you've been deceived by a few magicians. If the Qing forces seize the chance to cut off our retreat, what do you plan to do?"

Huang An ignored him and addressed Zheng Chenggong, "Your Highness, at first I did not believe either, but I have truly witnessed their abilities. A ship full of soldiers, along with me... none of us is a match for them alone."

Everyone exchanged glances.

They had traversed the south, retreated to Kinmen, advanced southward, weathered storms, resisted the false dynasty (Qing Dynasty), and marched northward along the Yangtze River, fighting all the way to Nanjing—what hadn't they seen?

There were masters, but one person defeating an entire ship's crew? Utter nonsense!

"It looks like witchcraft has scrambled your brains!" Wu Hao stepped forward, his mouth twisted in a cruel smile, "Let's see the might of this Penglai Immortal."

As he spoke, he swung his arm with a whooshing sound, stirring up a wind that made Li Changzhou's hair dance.

Li Qianxia stepped forward, surrounded by flames.

'Fiery Flame Body'

Wu Hao's palm heated up, causing him to retreat three steps in shock.

Everyone in the cabin stood up, staring at Li Qianxia, wrapped in flames and yet unharmed, their faces filled with disbelief.

"Cheap tricks!" Wu Hao drew the sword at his waist, like a fierce beast baring its sharp fangs and claws.
