The King of Black Fog

Chapter 519: Xian'er

In the dilapidated temple, the young girl trembled violently all over.

The person before her floated an inch off the ground, his face turning blue in the firelight, mouth wide open as if screaming, but no sound came out.

As if forever frozen in that moment before death.

[Don't make a sound.]

"Ah——" The girl let out a piercing scream.

[Facing you is a ghost, if you want to live listen to me, if you want to die keep shouting.]

The girl abruptly stopped her voice—she covered her mouth with both hands, as if stuffing the sound in and swallowing it.

[Ask him, are you human or ghost?]

"You, you, are you human or ghost?" the girl stuttered, parroting.

Across the firelight, the ghost with the gaping mouth leaned closer, his face growing increasingly hideous and bizarre in the flames.

"I'm a ghost, and you?" replied the ghost.

[I'm a ghost too.]

The girl echoed Li Changzhou: "I'm, I'm a ghost too."

The ghost scrutinized her, the bloodshot eyes clumsily rotating, like two dull beads, devoid of any spirit.

The girl held her breath.

She was almost drowning in terror, her entire body shaking, face pale to the extreme.

"Then why did you light the fire?" the ghost asked.

[Just drowned not long ago, still thought I was alive.]

The girl could no longer speak, the ghost before her floated up inch by inch, but the legs were drawn straight, the body swaying, as if being hung.

"Phew!" The bonfire suddenly extinguished, the world plunged into darkness.

The girl didn't scream, not because she didn't want to, but because extreme fear had paralyzed her, as if pinned underwater, unable to make any sound.

[Quick, say it! I just drowned not long ago, still thought I was alive!] Li Changzhou urged.

In the darkness, he clearly saw a hemp rope drop, one end tied to the ghost's neck, the other aiming for the girl.

"I.....just died.....thought...I was.....alive." The girl's teeth chattered.

The hemp rope stopped.

Through Divine Sense, Li Changzhou clearly saw the ghost looking somewhat puzzled, staring at the girl's pale face.

[Can ghosts fly? Can you teach me?]

"Can, can ghosts fly? Can you, teach me?"

"Oh." The ghost slowly descended, sitting again by the extinguished bonfire, the hemp rope disappeared, "I am a hung ghost, I can't fly, it's the rope that pulled me up."

[Don't be afraid.] Li Changzhou said calmly, [I am the deity of this temple, because the temple is broken, lost its incense, gone the Divine Power, but I won't leave you to die, just listen to me, dealing with a small ghost is a piece of cake.]

Deity?

The girl finally felt somewhat at ease.

[Ask him: I just died, what should I pay attention to as a ghost?]

"I just died, as a ghost what should I pay attention to?" the girl asked.

"Memory will decline, if not killing, will slowly forget everything, finally disappear."

After a pause, the ghost suddenly asked: "Are you really not a human?"

The ghost's mouth opened, splitting to an extent beyond normal human, able to almost cover the girl's entire head.

The girl heard: [Are you really a hung ghost? Why can you open your mouth so wide?]

She, trembling in her heart, repeated the words.

Was she about to be eaten?

The ghost's mouth returned to its screaming form, only expressionless, ghastly and terrifying: "You just died, still not accustomed to being a ghost, look."

The ghost removed his head, handing it to the girl.

[Raise your hand, directly above where the bonfire was, catch what the ghost gives you.]

'What thing?'

[If you don't want to die, reach out.]

The girl closed her eyes, stretched out her hands, caught a cold orb, wet hair draping over her palm like serpents.

[Impressive, are ghosts fearless of everything?]

The girl mustered all courage, trying not to think about what she held, as soon as the thought 'head' emerged, she shoved it back down.

She concentrated on repeating Li Changzhou's words.

"No." The ghost replied.

The ghost head in her hand spoke, streams of chilling Qi washed over the girl.

The ghost continued: "Boy's urine can melt a ghost's body, a maiden's blood can seal our actions... are you scared?"

"I'm cold." The girl shook, this time she didn't act, "I'm so cold, I fell into the water, I will die."

"You're already dead." The ghost kindly reminded.

The girl said nothing.

[The method is already given, if you're dressed as a woman, urinate; if you're a woman, bite your lip, apply the blood to the ghost head in your palm.]

Ghost head!!!!

Indeed it was a head, and a ghost head at that, she was holding a ghost head!

"Why is your body warm?" the ghost asked again.

"Just, just died, maybe it's... from the fire." The girl stammered and repeated.

[Make a choice, your way out has been shown.]

Li Changzhou fell silent.

The ghost had already dropped its doubt, yet without Li Changzhou's assistance, the girl quickly rekindled its suspicion.

[Lord Deity! Lord Deity!] The girl cried inwardly.

Watching the girl's human identity on the brink of exposure, Li Changzhou still did not speak.

Having a way to survive a ghost was enough, any more help would only delay time, the key 'action' required her own firm decision.

"Return my head." The ghost said.

The girl's heart quivered, both arms trembled.

"Are you afraid?" The hung ghost arose, questioned pressingly, "You fear ghosts? You aren't a ghost? You're human? You're human!"

Gusts of eerie wind, green ghost fire suddenly lit amidst the bonfire piles.

From the temple's hanging beam, a thick rope dangled, under the sinister green glow, looped toward the girl's neck.

Li Changzhou watched indifferently.

"Ah!!" The girl hadn't seen the rope, as the ghost fire ignited, she was terrified by the headless corpse before her.
