SSS-Rank Engineer: Only I Can Create Legendary Weapons

Chapter 114: 114—Vanitas

Percy swallowed nervously, surrounded on all sides by nobles offering him different spells to use for his imprinting ceremony.

Normally there wouldn't be so many people here at once. Some people would sit it out, as they had nothing of value to offer to the son of a Viscount.

But almost all the nobles were here. Since this was now the center of activity, the nobles even traded spells among each other before returning to repeat their offers to Percy for the seventeenth time.

There were some knights here that just wanted to speak to Percy and even Thalos, greeting the new lords of Demetria, since the land might explode in wealth and importance soon.

If they could switch flags for better salaries and a brighter future for them and their families, they would definitely join Demetria.

But many knights were there to just watch in interest. Thalos was already a bit famous for being incredibly talented; now his son was showing the signs of a new star.

Meanwhile, even adventurers and commoners snuck past the guards and got into the noble section of the hall to offer Percy anything they could.

They had heard that Lord Perseus enjoyed books and made many interesting magic tools, so they wondered if they could sway his opinion with magic tools or interesting locations.

He was a child after all.

Percy barely had a moment to think of what was being said. He would hear of a Prometheus Guild one second only to hear about a spell that could build specific houses automatically.

His mind was dragged in ten different directions at once, and he was interested in every freaking offer.

And then there was the political factor to consider in the midst of all of this.

Any spell he chose would be him showing favor to that one house. There were a lot of people on his side, but he could see a good number of people on the right side of the hall, courting Hephaestus' choice.

It was Percy's tri-affinity against Hephaestus' dual affinities.

The choice was obvious. Percy was a once-in-a-generation miracle. His mother had been born with dual affinities despite her father, the Duke of Amphene, having one.

Now Percy had surpassed his mother. That could mean his children would all be born with at least two affinities.

Hecate's lineage was strong despite marrying a commoner with no affinities.

But that was why many people were also on Sion's side.

They saw Percy and his talent as meaningless because of the blemish they perceived on his bloodline, and they quietly did not agree with the king's interference in the county.

Hephaestus represented the spirits' favor on the traditions of Crona, so they would rather support that if they had to pick a side.

Percy took note of all of them, especially the barons or stewards from the Demetria territory. Any of Hecate's retainers that went there had to be dealt with sooner or later.

In the meantime, he narrowed his targets down to two people.

"I'm sorry, my friends," Percy started, silencing all of them almost instantly. "But I will only be able to pick a wind spell from you all. I have already received a fire and earth spell from my mother, Viscount Hecate."

Thalos glanced at him once but ignored the lie and continued watching everyone surrounding them carefully.

Yes, it was a lie, but it was a lie that made things easier for him. Now he only had to choose between the Viscount of Chiton, Pyrrhos, and the Baron of Vestira, Caster.

His mind whirred as they all stared at him. A lot of the people turned to the steward of Viscount Pyrrhos who came to make the offer.

Earlier, he had been thinking of how the Viscount's territory was in danger of war with another Viscount. Now was a good chance to establish ties since Demetria and Chiton weren't that far apart.

Supporting Viscount Pyrrhos could also be seen as supporting the Count too. It was an indirect way to say, we're friendly, before he went back to Dema.

"I am considering Viscount Pyrrhos' offer," he said finally.

It was a spell that created powerful columns of wind that had piercing force. He liked the sound of it, and the power sounded impressive.

"Let us still gift you these spells so you may treasure this day," one of the nobles said finally.

Everyone nodded, murmuring in agreement. Then they started handing the scrolls to Thalos and shaking Percy's hand. Every one of them whispered promises to him while they shook.

A lot of creepy things to impress him. Like concubines and money.

If I was a normal kid, this whole scenario would have twisted up my head. You can't tell a kid all of this; he'll feel like a new god or something.

He discarded those thoughts and finished greeting them all and dispersing the crowd. After they were gone, he let out a tired breath.

"I forgot how amazing it was to have even more than one affinity," Thalos hummed, watching them go. "You've just done more amazing things this week than showing potential."

"Yeah, it's just potential. It doesn't mean the person will live up to it," Percy agreed.

"But I am proud of you, son," Thalos added, bopping him on the head.

Percy smirked. "I know."

They both laughed before turning to Viscount Pyrrhos' steward. The short man was dressed impeccably, smiling at them.

"Shall we go meet my lord?" he asked.

Percy simply nodded and got up to leave. But then someone approaching them caught his attention.

Vanitas Neo.

Third son of the Count of Yarol. He had platinum blonde hair and bright blue eyes. His expression was as gracious and unbothered as usual.

They paused as Vanitas stopped before them, bowing to the son of the Count. Even Percy followed courtesy perfectly here. He had to make sure they had the Count on their side.

"I apologize for my later offer, Perseus," Vanitas said softly. "But my father would also like to offer you a wind spell. Only if you'll give us the honor, though."
