Monster Gacha System: Becoming The Final Boss

Chapter 090 | Return to New Janus

Above the evening skyline of New Janus, Gryphos fluttered its wing before landing near the entrance of the looming tower of Block 7. Dust parted as the cold breeze whisked through the night.

Behind the feathered mane of the Griffin, Damien and Hecate observed the desolate surroundings with scrutiny. An eerie silence pervaded them.

"It seems that the news about the trial was true," he muttered under his breath, and checked out the lobby after getting off his monster's feathered back.

Hecate closed her eyelids, body heating up. The awakening of her other side wasn't without its price. She was undergoing a transformation.

An evolution that would take a toll on her body. In simpler terms, she was as helpless as an ordinary girl. A feeling she heavily disliked, but could do nothing about.

Damien walked through the lobby and found no one other than himself. He furrowed his eyebrows, noticing how desolate yet clean it was.

Someone had entered their looming tower, or perhaps some group.

His sable-tinted gaze narrowed as he activated his Empyrean Overwatch. Perceiving the world through the heavens, he noticed dozens of military vehicles heading towards their location.

It appears that someone was waiting for them to arrive in the looming tower of Block 7. The only ones who could roam without resistance were the authorities.

The Federation.

"So... They're rounding up the members of Block 7, huh?" Damien wasn't ignorant about why his boss had attacked the SIGIL Headquarters.

The Shadow Division had infiltrated all forms of government. Some might have gone to the top of command, explaining what the seventh Paragon had done.

If the SIGIL infiltrators had already been taken care of, the ones remaining would have to be part of CORE and the Federation.

Much more complicated organizations, though none of it mattered to his boss. What should be taken care of must be handled.

Whether it'd be through dialogue or force.

Damien blinked to the entrance of the looming tower where Gryphos and Hecate waited for him. She opened her eyelids, unveiling her velvet eyes, staring at him.

"Is there no one inside, Damien?" A soft voice escaped her lips, far different from her usual confident tone.

"The tower is empty. It seems that Miss Alastair and Francine are currently in trial somewhere in the Federation."

"But we are about to meet some people. A military convoy that is heading towards our location." Damien told her about his discovery, prompting her to furrow her eyebrows.

"Do they also want to arrest us?" There was a tinge of venom in her voice, displeased by the fact that her master was tried.

"Probably... The Federation might consider us her accomplice." He couldn't reject the notion as it made sense. Block 7 was probably being held responsible.

It didn't take long for the military convoy to arrive, and armored vehicles promptly surrounded them from all sides. Soldiers stepped out and pointed their rifles at the two.

"Surrender Aberrant!!" The soldiers commanded, directing the barrels of their guns at Damien. "Do not resist, Vampire!!"

"Do you have a warrant?" he questioned the surrounding soldiers, who didn't utter a single response.

Damien sighed to himself and glared at them. "I will be assuming that you don't have a warrant and have no probable cause. Meaning that you are commandeering a false imprisonment."

"I believe you already know where I am heading, right?" His words resounded throughout the darkness of the night.

But none of the surrounding soldiers responded and kept pointing their rifles at the two Jaegers of Block 7.

He furrowed his eyebrows and used Empyrean Overwatch to observe the situation from the heavens. It was then that he noticed cameras pointed towards their location.

The edges of his lips curved into a subtle smile.

"I see... That's the plan, huh? Manufacturing evidences yourselves..." It was dirty and false, but the public never cared about the truth.

Only what they wanted to hear.

Which was why the entirety of Block 7 was being prosecuted by the Federation. The video of his resistance would be what the public wanted to hear.

Truly a venomous way to incriminate someone.

"Shall we fight them, Damien?" Behind the feathered mane of Gryphos, Hecate inquired while coldly gazing upon the surrounding soldiers.

"No need... We will be playing along with their game if we attacked them." There was a better way to handle these soldiers. And that was to make a third-party handle them.

The cameras across several buildings were destroyed as a group of black-suited men pointed their rifles at the back of the soldiers.

An elder stepped forward from the darkness, smiling at the soldiers. "The Dobermann Family will not stand by when our city is being besieged by an outside force."

"We are the vassals of Block 7, and the city of New Janus stands the same." Out of nowhere, hundreds of citizens flooded the streets.

Some were holding their cameras and directing them at the surrounding soldiers. The hunters had become the hunted.

The soldiers glanced at one another as their leader nodded and lowered their rifles. Damien smirked at them and stepped forward.

"What department of the military do you belong to?" None answered his question. All of them returned to their armored vehicles, leaving the premises in withdrawal.

Their mission had failed.

New Janus has been compromised and was under the complete control of Block 7. There was no other option than retreat.

Otherwise, the situation would have escalated beyond what they could handle. It would be disastrous for the plans they had in mind.

As Damien watched the military convoy drive away, the Patriarch of Dobermann stepped forward and uttered. "You let them get away. That was unexpected."

With the cameras gone, they could have eliminated them, and there would be no evidence left. It was a clean and easy job.

Damien shook his head and replied. "They're more useful to me alive than dead. I'm finding out the mastermind of this whole scheme."

"Hmm..." The elder looked at the military convoy that was becoming farther away. Block 7 has become the strongest pillar of New Janus.

Even his adopted daughter had changed after becoming one of them. It made him wonder if it was the perspective that had gone through a transformation.

When your gaze goes far, what was supposed to be your biggest problem becomes tiny in comparison. It changes your outlook on the world.

This makes you prone to instinctively make choices for the larger picture.

"Where are Echidna and Hawk?" Damien asked about the newest members of Block 7, who formerly belonged to the Dobermann Family of New Janus.

The Patriarch sighed to himself and answered. "The two had surrendered and didn't fight against the authorities. To resist would work against our arguments, after all."

"Was it recent?" He raised his eyebrows as the elder nodded. "It wasn't long ago, probably an hour before you and your partner arrived."

"It appears that the Federation will be trapped in the cascading storm of chaos in the future. I hope that New Janus will be spared." The elder added.

"It will be spared. The specter will ensure that no one will ruffle the nest." Damien said with confidence as he turned towards a particular direction. "Hecate and I will be taking our leave."

"We have to break two of our newest members out from their imprisonment. They should be heading somewhere at the moment."

He hopped onto the feathered mane of Gryphos, sitting beside Hecate, who felt weaker and weaker. The transformation was harsh, exhausting her body to its limits.

She could only hope that it wouldn't bother her partner.

Damien nodded towards the people, smiling at them. "Thank you for saving me and Hecate from that troublesome situation earlier. Block 7 appreciates your assistance."

As the two of them soared to the skies behind Gryphos, he glanced at his status display for a moment.
