The Young Urban Doctor

Chapter 063 Can it be cured?

"Luo Ziling, you're being too presumptuous," Lin Lan, retrieving a gun from somewhere, aimed it at Luo Ziling, "What status does the leader have that you can criticize and speak nonsense about?"

While pointing the gun at Luo Ziling and rebuking him, Lin Lan slightly turned her body to a position where the old man couldn't see and gave Luo Ziling several meaningful looks.

Luo Ziling understood the messages in Lin Lan's eyes, which were telling him to hurry up and apologize and not say anything else that would agitate the elder. Although initially angry at Lin Lan for drawing a gun on him, feeling it was a betrayal of his kindness, his annoyance vanished the moment he grasped her intent.

But Luo Ziling didn't want to rely on Lin Lan's favor; he had his pride.

If he had come to treat someone only to feel like he was accepting charity, he would absolutely refuse to provide treatment for that person.

When he used to run around with his grandfather treating people, what he received was nothing but the utmost respect and gratitude. Where was that treatment now? His innate pride wouldn't allow him to submit, and so he continued to stand proudly, looking the old man in the eye without flinching.

"Hahaha," after looking at Luo Ziling for a few moments, the old man laughed heartily, "Not bad, it's rare to see such pride in young people nowadays. Lan'er, put down the gun. He's much stronger than all of you. In him, I seem to see my younger self, willful and untamed, hahaha, admirable, I like it."

Lin Lan immediately holstered her gun and threw Luo Ziling a scornful look as if to say he was too arrogant for his own good.

Luo Ziling breathed a sigh of relief, but he was somewhat at a loss for words about what the old man had said.

This old man, he seemed to be praising him on the surface, but in reality, he was singing his own praises, a true narcissist.

"What's your name?" The old man took the initiative to ask Luo Ziling his full name.

This astonished Lin Lan. It was unprecedented for the leader to proactively ask the name of a junior.

"My name is Luo Ziling!"

It seemed that the old man had only then thought of something. His laughter stopped, and he asked Luo Ziling very seriously, "Luo Liansheng is related to you in what way?"

Luo Ziling was surprised and curiously asked, "Senior… do you know my grandfather?"

He originally intended to address him with the same respect as Lin Lan did, calling him 'leader,' but considering that title wasn't his to use, he settled for 'senior.'

"Twenty years ago, I had dealt with him. He is one of the people I admire the most. I didn't expect to meet his grandson today, a fortunate occurrence indeed," the old man's eyes gleamed strangely as he added, "Where is your grandfather? I was hoping that I could be treated by his miraculous hands."

"My grandfather is in the Northwest, but he often goes out to gather herbs or to treat people," Luo Ziling honestly responded.

"I had already refused treatment, but coming after an old friend to offer treatment, I must try my luck," the elder said and signaled Lin Lan to help him up.

Lin Lan and the two small nurses, who had been standing aside, too frightened to approach, hurried over to help the old man up from the chair.

"I can no longer move my arms and legs; the only thing I can move is my mouth. This is the only way I can express my gratitude to you," the elder said as he was helped up, giving a slight nod to Luo Ziling as a sign of courtesy.

This situation shocked Lin Lan and the two nurses who were nearly scolded daily. They couldn't believe that the old leader, known for his rough temper and foul language, would be so courteous to a young man.

Especially Lin Lan, who was astonished; in her many years there, when had she ever seen the leader treat someone like this?

She knew something about Luo Ziling's background, but now she felt that Luo Ziling's past was not as simple as she had known.

The fact that Luo Ziling's grandfather was an old friend of their esteemed commander, known as the "War God," and a man the commander respected, suggested that Luo Ziling, as his grandson, couldn't possibly be a simple person.

The elder who just now had displayed such a formidable presence and spoken arrogantly enough to make Lin Lan draw her gun in threat for fear of angering him, was now speaking in such a tone that Luo Ziling felt a bit unexpectedly honored.

He didn't put on any airs and immediately walked over, reaching out to grasp the old man's arm.

When the old man saw Luo Ziling grab his arm with such rapid action, faster than anyone else he had seen, he couldn't help but be stunned. However, Luo Ziling did not pay any further attention to the old man's astonished gaze; he concentrated on taking his pulse.

Upon taking the pulse, he was startled.

"You're poisoned, with a poison from many years ago, and you've also suffered a very serious injury that has never healed. Your qi is in chaos, your pulse is irregular, sometimes high, sometimes low; you're very seriously ill," Luo Ziling bluntly stated the results of his diagnosis.

Luo Ziling's analysis instantly changed Lin Lan's expression and caused both young guards to tremble in fear.

The old man's face also changed, but he quickly returned to normal.

"Well said. You're truly worthy of being the descendant of the Divine Doctor. My injury indeed dates back many years, and I was poisoned at that time. The poison has never been eliminated." After laughing heartily twice, the old man then asked Luo Ziling earnestly, "Just tell me straight, can it be cured?"

When he asked this question, the old man stared at Luo Ziling, who continued to take his pulse, without blinking.

Not only the old man, but Lin Lan's beautiful eyes were also filled with hope as she looked at him.

She very much hoped to hear from Luo Ziling's mouth that it could be cured.

To treat the old commander's illness, the military had sought many top domestic medical experts, who devised several treatment plans, but ultimately none were effective.

Asking Luo Ziling to treat the condition could be seen as a last resort, akin to trying to save a dying horse. Moreover, it was Lin Lan who proposed letting Luo Ziling have a try; if Luo Ziling said it could be cured and managed to cure it, then she would have made a great contribution. While making a contribution meant little to Lin Lan, if she could cure the illness of the commander, who was like a strict father to her, she wouldn't care even if she were to face discipline.

But to Lin Lan's disappointment, Luo Ziling slowly shook his head. "Senior, I can't guarantee whether it can be cured," he said.

The old man looked at Luo Ziling, pondered thoughtfully for a moment, then asked, "Do you mean there's hope for a cure?"

"Yes," Luo Ziling responded without hesitation, nodding his head, "as long as you're willing to let me proceed with the treatment unhindered, there's certainly a possibility of alleviating the symptoms, even a chance of recovery."

Luo Ziling's words reignited the intense hope in Lin Lan's heart, which had initially been filled with disappointment.

"Hahaha," the old man laughed out loud, then said seriously to Luo Ziling, "What's there to fear? I've never been afraid of anything in my life. It's just a life, isn't it? I've already been sentenced to death, and now hearing from you that there's hope for recovery, why wouldn't I give it a try? Ziling, from today onwards, please treat me. Whether it cures me or not, I'll be grateful to you!"

The old man's words once again surprised Lin Lan.

The commander's behavior today was truly out of the ordinary.

She began to look at Luo Ziling with even greater respect.
