The Young Urban Doctor

Chapter 061 My Name is Lin Lan

Luo Ziling's words left the beautiful woman stunned for a moment, and then a slight blush spread across her pretty face.

She felt a bit annoyed, glaring fiercely at Luo Ziling as the faint smile on her face vanished.

The instructor who hadn't walked far also heard the remark.

The lieutenant colonel, equally shocked, stumbled suddenly, tripping over his right leg with his left and almost falling.

Eventually, he hurried away in a very embarrassed manner, as if someone was chasing him, almost sprinting at a hundred-meter dash speed.

Seeing the lieutenant colonel's flustered escape, Luo Ziling couldn't help but laugh.

"Why are you looking for me?" With no one else around, Luo Ziling spoke with some embarrassment, "I misspoke earlier. I simply meant to say that I didn't recognize you at first because of how you look now."

The woman standing before him, tall and beautiful, dressed in cool leather attire, was none other than the woman Luo Ziling had saved in the hills behind the small village in the Northwest half a month earlier, but who had ultimately disappeared.

Originally, Luo Ziling thought that he would never see her again after she left without a word, and yet, half a month later, here she was.

Looking at her, she appeared to have mostly recovered, showing none of the pallor from her injury.

Considering the woman's cool demeanor and the even cooler vehicle beside her, an unresolved question in Luo Ziling's mind was suddenly answered. The vehicle was a military SUV, which meant the woman was a soldier.

When she was injured, Luo Ziling had seen a Five-star Red Flag patch on her shoulder. It was upon seeing this patch that he didn't hesitate to pick her up, run back to his home through the heavy rain, and do his utmost to save her life.

Luo Ziling believed that if he hadn't reached out to help her in time, this woman would have long since been dead.

If someone other than him had found the injured woman, it might have been too late to save her.

After all, the wound on her chest was in a critical area, and she had lost a lot of blood; a few more hours might have meant death from excessive blood loss.

Having seen all her secrets, Luo Ziling considered her an important part of his life. Suddenly seeing her before him today, the surprise and joy he felt were beyond words.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have blurted out that statement which could easily be misunderstood.

"Thank you for saving me that day," the woman said, her annoyance gone and a touch of shyness on her face.

"But you left without saying goodbye," remembering the feeling of loss when he sprinted home to find the woman gone, Luo Ziling sighed softly.

"I'll explain it to you later," the woman said as she opened the door to the Hummer's passenger seat, "I have a favor to ask of you today, and I hope you can come with me. Oh, and my name is Lin Lan!"

This was the first time she had taken the initiative to introduce herself to someone, and the first time in years that she had spoken to a man with such a tone.

It was all because he was her lifesaver.

Plus, he had seen too many of her secrets.

For this reason, she always felt a bit awkward around him.

"What do you need me to do?" Luo Ziling hesitated before mentioning his predicament, "I still have military training today, and the instructor said we can't take leave."

"I've already asked for leave on your behalf," Lin Lan patiently explained, "A...comrade of mine has been injured, and we'd like you to come and treat him."

"Alright," Luo Ziling considered and agreed but quickly added, "But I need to bring some things with me."

"What things?"

"Some medications, acupuncture needles, and some other special equipment I keep in my dorm."

Lin Lan immediately agreed, "Okay, then I'll wait for you here!"

Thus, Luo Ziling quickly ran off. About ten minutes later, he returned, running joyfully back.

He ran so swiftly all the way that he didn't even appear flushed or out of breath, which quite surprised Lin Lan.

After the car left the campus, Luo Ziling suddenly thought of a question and couldn't restrain his curiosity. He asked Lin Lan, "How did you know I was studying here?"

"If I want to know, I naturally know," Lin Lan had regained his usual demeanor, though his voice wasn't as rigid, "Also, I hope you won't pry into anything."

"Oh?! Does that mean you're soldiers from a very mysterious unit?" Luo Ziling grew even more curious.

The lieutenant colonel had saluted Lin Lan when he left.

It seemed that Lin Lan's rank was even higher than the lieutenant colonel's.

Lin Lan didn't answer and concentrated on driving.

Luo Ziling felt somewhat foolish.

But he was convinced of one thing he had just mentioned: Lin Lan's identity was very special, and the unit he belonged to was equally mysterious.

Luo Ziling kept silent, and so did Lin Lan, but Luo Ziling wasn't surprised.

During the time he had treated her injuries, after so many days together, this woman had spoken less than thirty sentences in total. The amount she had spoken to him today was already quite a lot.

However, Luo Ziling didn't want both of them to ride in the same car without speaking, so after thinking for a while, he still asked, "Who did you want me to heal? What kind of injury does that person have?"

"You'll find out when you get there!" Lin Lan did not satisfy Luo Ziling's curiosity.

Luo Ziling had no choice but to stop asking.

The car drove for nearly an hour, and judging by the surroundings, they had left the city far behind; hardly a house could be seen on either side of the road. Lin Lan drove very fast, and by Luo Ziling's not-so-great sense of distance, he estimated that he was at least nearly a hundred miles away from the school.

Throughout the journey, the two of them didn't talk much; most of the time was spent in silence.

Luo Ziling felt quite uncomfortable with this scenario, but Lin Lan seemed not to care at all.

A guard post appeared on the road ahead, and Lin Lan slowed down the car.

Armed sentries emerged from the guard post to stop the car, but upon seeing Lin Lan's vehicle and its license plate, they immediately raised the barrier to let it pass.

After passing two guard posts, several buildings hidden among the trees came into view ahead.

There was a tall wall around the houses, topped with barbed wire, separating the inside from the outside.

The iron gate was closed tight, with armed sentries still standing guard outside.

This time, Lin Lan's car was not allowed easy entry; instead, the sentries stopped her to check credentials before permitting passage.

Once the car drove inside the wall, Lin Lan softly reminded, "Once we're inside, don't look around casually or ask about things. If you have any questions, wait until we leave to ask me, and I'll take you back."

Luo Ziling could only agree.

Lin Lan's words ignited his immense curiosity.

What exactly was this place? What kind of soldier was Lin Lan? And who was the patient he was brought here to treat?
