Back home, Xiao Mu first takes out the "Cultivation of Ghosts" for its variant.
As his finger touches the book, two options appear:
1. Sects.
2. Taoism.
The choice isn't difficult, Xiao Mu chooses Taoism.
However, he soon realizes that this variant also requires two Energy Points. After a brief hesitation, Xiao Mu decides to continue.
The "Cultivation of Ghosts" disappears and a brand-new book, "Controlling Ghosts Heaven Scripture," appears.
His hand presses on the book and he chooses to accept the knowledge inheritance. After a moment, the "Controlling Ghosts Heaven Scripture" turns into blank pages, and Xiao Mu closes his eyes in contemplation.
"Controlling Ghosts Heaven Scripture", as the name suggests, is a technique for controlling ghosts. For those who practice Taoist Law, this is quite an important stage.
Especially once cultivation reaches the Spirit Communication Realm, controlling ghosts becomes a must. Every Taoist cultivator must go through this phase.
The reason is simple, although early-stage Taoist Law has powerful offensive capabilities like the Fire Talisman, which can burn everything, its self-protection and survival abilities are still too weak.
Controlling ghosts, to some extent, compensates for the survival shortcomings of Taoist cultivators.
They just need to enhance the strength of the Ghost Servant, and during battles, they can command the Ghost Servant to block enemies. The Cultivator can then stay behind the Ghost Servant and cast Fire Talisman to destroy their enemies.
After such a battle, there is no risk at all.
It could be said that controlling ghosts is a favorite of every Taoist cultivator. A powerful Ghost Servant can greatly enhance a Taoist cultivator's solo combat ability.
Moreover, Ghost Servants have a unique method of cultivation, and when it's perfected, they become Yellow Turban Warriors. They are powerful enough to move mountains and scar the earth, chase the sun and moon, ascend to heaven, explore the underworld, descend into fiery abysses, and they are invincible.
Compared to ordinary comrades, these Yellow Turban Warriors have a huge advantage - they are absolutely loyal, without differing intentions. They strictly follow their master's commands and there is no worry about betrayal.
A master can have multiple Yellow Turban Warriors, but a Yellow Turban Warrior can only have one master.
Moreover, the Yellow Turban Warrior and their master are spiritually connected. If the master dies, the Yellow Turban Warrior also dies immediately.
This is the advantage of the Yellow Turban Warrior.
Every Taoist cultivator with significant cultivation has a Yellow Turban Warrior accompanying them. A Taoist cultivator without a Yellow Turban Warrior reveals their insufficient abilities.
At the same time, this Yellow Turban Warrior belongs exclusively to Taoism, Buddhism does not have them.
Of course, Buddhism has Protectors of Dharma and Vajras, who are equivalent to Yellow Turban Warriors, but they can't be as versatile.
A carefully cultivated Yellow Turban Warrior can not only move mountains and attack fearlessly, but also use all the magic treasures of their master, serving as an external reincarnation.
This capability is beyond the reach of the Protectors of Dharma and Vajra of Buddhism.
The Protectors of Dharma and Vajra depend on the Buddha Ancestor but do not completely belong to the Buddha Ancestor (The owners of Protectors of Dharma and Vajra can all be called Buddha Ancestor, meaning they are the masters of the Protectors of Dharma and Vajra that they have transformed. This is a narrow interpretation of Buddha Ancestor, not the real Buddha Ancestor. There is only one real Buddha Ancestor, and that's the Buddha itself). They are merely assistants.
Furthermore, the greatest difference is, Protectors of Dharma and Vajra of Buddhism are transformed and won't die with the death of the Buddha Ancestor.
As soon as the Buddha Ancestor dies, Protectors of Dharma and Vajra will immediately break free of control and choose to become independent.
On the other hand, a Yellow Turban Warrior is painstakingly cultivated by a Taoist cultivator bit by bit, spending a great deal of effort, and they are completely spiritually connected with their master.
The two protectors cannot be compared in terms of loyalty.
After a while, Xiao Mu opened his eyes, a trace of joy appearing on his face.
With the Ghost Control Technique, once he successfully cultivates a ghost servant, he will no longer have to worry about being threatened by Blood Demons and evil zombies up close.
At present, although Xiao Mu's Fire Talisman is astoundingly powerful, capable of burning any Blood Demons or evil zombies to death.
But when fighting against the evil absurdities like Blood Demons and evil zombies, Xiao Mu must set up in advance, first using the Spiritual Array to trap these evil absurdities, then proceeding with battle.
Otherwise, once the Blood Demons and evil zombies escape confinement and engage in close combat, they are likely not the ones who will end up dead.
However, with a ghost servant, and once the ghost servant's power is cultivated, Xiao Mu can confront the likes of Blood Demons and evil zombies fearlessly, even in close combat.
Even if confronted with an Evil Spirit or corpse general, as long as there is a ghost servant to entangle the opponent, it is not necessarily impossible to engage in a fight.
However, with Xiao Mu's current means, if he encounters an Evil Spirit or a corpse general, purely relying on the power of the current Fire Talisman, even the Fire Talisman Overlay 'Anger Flame - Burn' might find it difficult to kill it.
He would be better off with a Thunder Symbol, but that requires being in the late Spirit Communication Realm at least to produce and use it. For now, Xiao Mu better not think about it.
Of course, besides the Thunder Symbol, he can work on other avenues to enhance his offensive capability, like Spiritual Array, or continuing to increase the power of the Fire Talismans, and so on.
In any case, there are many methods, not just one. The key lies in which development path Xiao Mu chooses.
At present, the most important thing is to firstly master the Ghost Control Technique and cultivate a ghost servant.
The so-called enhancement of offensive powers, as well as battling Evil Spirits and corpse generals, all are based upon having a powerful ghost servant as support.
To cultivate a ghost servant, Xiao Mu first needs to obtain a Yin Spirit.
Yin Spirits are ghosts, and not the Evil Ghosts. The inherently evil aura within Evil Ghosts is something Xiao Mu simply cannot subdue. Even if subdued, they are likely to backfire.
Certainly, Buddhism has the power to enlighten. If the strength is sufficient, it may enlighten the Evil Ghosts to become the Protectors of Dharma, the Vajra.
However, unavoidably, because the Dharma Protectors and the Vajra are essentially transformed from Evil Ghosts, one needs to be vigilant of possible backfire at all times.
It's fine when the Buddha Ancestor's strength is strong enough to suppress the Evil Ghosts, then they wouldn't dare to backfire.
But once the Buddha Ancestor becomes injured and his strength weakens, the Evil Ghosts will immediately usurp and backfire against the Buddha Ancestor.
Many Buddha Ancestors succumb to their own subdued Dharma Protectors and Vajra.
On this point, there exists a certain disparity between Buddhism and Taoism.
Apart from not using Evil Ghosts, Household Ghosts must also be avoided.
Primarily because Household Ghosts lack combat ability, but also because they belong to families. Turning a known and named Household Ghost into one's own ghost servant out of nowhere, is equivalent to robbing others of their own, which will inevitably harm Yin Virtue.
This Yin Virtue is intangible yet it can affect one's luck. If Yin Virtue is greatly lost and luck is damaged, you are certainly in for trouble.
The best candidate for a ghost servant is a Soldier Soul, the residual soul left on the battlefield.
Firstly, compared to ordinary souls, Soldier Souls are much stronger and easier to train into powerful ghost servants.
Secondly, Soldier Souls have died on the battlefield, their bodies unrecoverable, and have become nameless, ignorant, and only instinctively wandering the human world. They have already lost their chance of reincarnation.
Training such Soldier Souls into Yellow Turban Warriors does not raise the issue of damaging Yin Virtue.
After all, becoming a Yellow Turban Warrior is also a way of Ghost Cultivation, albeit being subordinate to the master, they are not entirely free. But it is definitely better than being a nameless and ignorant wandering ghost.
