God of Destruction: Living Among Mortals

Chapter 174: A Year Later: Part I

Nova was in Freya's chamber, sleeping on her lap, as she gently ruffled through his hair. She was still pregnant, even though one Celestial Year had passed. For divine beings like her, especially being one of the Supreme Gods, her pregnancy would last another Celestial Year, which was about another hundred trillion mortal years.

For a goddess like Freya, a hundred trillion years was nothing but a light nap. Nova stirred on her lap as she switched from playing with his hair to inspecting some of her creation. As she did that, she felt another kick, then a second, slightly different one, almost as if it had its own rhythm. Freya paused, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

"Interesting," she told herself, her hand brushing gently over her swollen belly.

The movements weren't chaotic, far from it. They were precise and concise, almost as if two distinct bodies were making themselves known. She felt one kick near her side, the other close to her center.

Nova blinked up at her, sensing her fascination. One of the kicks from earlier had woken him up, feeling the vibration of the kick.

"Are there two?" he asked gently, his voice barely more than a whisper, since he was still sleepy.

Freya chuckled softly and gave a warmth that felt like the early morning sun spewing itself across the Celestial Realm.

"Perhaps," she said enigmatically, letting her fingers rest lightly on the faint ripples beneath her touch. "Or perhaps Father has decided to surprise us, twice."

"Perhaps that is the case," Nova inquired.

"What do you want, not one of them?" Freya said teasingly, pushing his buttons.

"No, no, that's not what I meant."

"Or perhaps you don't want to pay 'child support', whatever those mortals enunciate it as."

"That's not what I meant!" Nova exclaimed, successfully falling into Freya's little trap.

She simply laughed, and he joined her. He touched her belly, and as soon as he touched it, he felt an enormous amount of power radiating outward, which she wasn't able to feel, but he was.

This amount of power... he thought, startled. ... I don't even think I could accumulate this much power. Nova realized at that moment that whatever these babies were, they were on par with the Ghaldon and his friend.

Speaking of which, he realized he hadn't seen both of them in a while. The last time he saw them was a year ago, the day the American Guild had lost to the Australian Guild.

He shrugged it off, trying to spend as much time as possible with Freya. He smiled at her, lifting himself enough to kiss her warm lips, which felt like sunshine and rainbows, then went back to her lap.

Then he heard a knock. He looked towards the door and then towards Freya, who did the same thing. He quickly, but gently, got up, trying not to hurt Freya or alarm her, then walked towards the door.

He opened it slightly to see Elesch on the other side, which he was surprised by. She pushed through him, with a bright smile, and jumped towards Freya, but Nova stopped her midair.

"She's pregnant, you don't want to accidentally disrupt the pregnancies, do you?" Nova asked her, closing the door.

"No," Elesch said as Nova dropped her, and she immediately rushed towards Freya, hugging her tightly.

Freya embraced Elesch's warm hug as the two rekindled after a long time. Nova left the door, without knowing that Apollo was on the other side now, losing his head over the fact that Freya was pregnant.

Freya didn't really leave her chamber all that much, since she knew Apollo would cause trouble and could harm the fetuses, which would cause Nova to go berserk, and end up destroying the Celestial and Mortal realms.

Elesch lingered, her eyes shimmering as she examined Freya's swollen form. "I can't even begin to imagine... twins, no less," she said, feeling the different kicks. "The Celestial Realm hasn't seen something like this, ever. I wonder..."

Freya's smile was gentle but carried the weight of a mother. "The universe has its ways of surprising even the oldest of gods," she said, her hand brushing lightly over her belly. One of the subtle kicks responded, and Freya chuckled softly. "It seems they've already taken notice of their aunt."

"Aunt? Ew, it makes me sound so old. Don't call me that. When they are born, I will tell them to call me Elesch." Then a brief pause, and then she reiterated her dialogue: "I just can't fathom them calling me aunt, it sounds so old, and I don't want to look like those old mortals. Disgusting."

Nova, still at the edge of the room, watched carefully. The sensation of power from Freya's womb hadn't diminished for him; it had only grown, as if luring him in to feel the true extent, pulsing like twin stars locked in an eternal dance. The sheer magnitude of it made his chest tighten, his eyes startled, his face astonished.

He didn't realize that Freya was this powerful, to produce fetuses of this magnitude of power. Or maybe, he thought, it could be the fact that two Supreme Gods reproduced and thus led to such a thing, since something like this was unheard of.

Nova walked towards the bed, shaking his head, and anticipating a wild roller coaster of events in the near future. He sat on the bed as Freya and Elesch interacted with each other.

His eyes were set on Freya's beautiful, serene face. He glanced at her face for a moment longer, appreciating everything about her and kindling all of their moments until now, every single one of those memories, since the beginning.

Freya noticed his gaze and smiled, a small, knowing smile. "Nova," she said, her voice soft. "I..."

Whatever she may have said next didn't compute in his brain, as he removed all sound, all of his senses except for sight, and just glared at her gently, softly, warmly.
