Dusk (BL Light Novel)

chapter 161

[Party] Honeybread: yeah?"I realized during the medic cutscene earlier—the golem isn’t glowing. Last time, it was glowing green."…Huh? Was it? Now that he mentioned it, I did remember a faint green aura, almost like the golem would smell like grass."And more importantly, it doesn’t have a voice. The spirit’s voice."[Party] Honeybread: ahYeah. That was it. The voice. I clearly remembered how it would cry out with that pained tone every time it used a skill. Even during , it had yelled something like “Let us bloom for the children who died!” or whatever."Maybe back then it had voice lines because there was a spirit present, and this time it doesn’t since we fast-tracked the run? Come to think of it, that spirit was green too. The green spirit must’ve inhabited the golem and that’s why the golem glowed. But now that there’s no spirit, there’s no glow, and no voice."So that’s what I’d been missing. Finally realizing the source of my discomfort felt like clearing a weight off my chest."But wait—aren’t golems only able to move if they’re inhabited by spirits? How is this one moving without one?"He started chattering again, clearly sensing something was off. True enough, Dusk always stuck to its worldbuilding. No way they’d miss a detail like this…Gang Jaegyung moved his character closer to the crumbled golem, saying maybe the spirit was still hiding somewhere. I didn’t have anything better to do, so I followed and inspected the remains.But there was nothing—just brittle chunks of stone. No speck of anything resembling a spirit."There’s no way ZeroSoft would miss this…"Exactly. And with no voice lines, no glow—it made more sense to assume the golem was meant to move without a spirit this time.Gang Jaegyung said he’d look into it again later, then moved past the archway marked “PULL” over and over and entered the building. The only light came from the garden outside, so the place was dark all around—but the path was a straight shot, so we just walked forward without issue.After passing through the cold, dim hallway, we arrived at a place I hadn’t seen in a while: Mirror Cliff. It was a name Gang Jaegyung had come up with himself, but since there was no official label, it just stuck.The hallway walls were entirely made of mirrors, and the floor dropped off into an abyss—this Mirror Cliff was a transition zone connected to the standard mirror maze, just like in the trailer video. Of course, in the game, if you fell down the cliff, you’d die instantly. That was something we only knew thanks to a brave idiot who decided to jump off the pitch-black, deep-sea-sounding void of a cliff.We both pressed the flight key and spread our wings. Gang Jaegyung’s character fluttered gently around me like a butterfly, wings twinkling since we were paired. It looked pretty, sure—but the flapping got annoying real fast.[Party] Honeybread: your flapping is distracting[Party] Retaking a Class: can’t you tolerate it?[Party] Honeybread: nope[Party] Retaking a Class: that’s so mean...[Party] Honeybread: nah[Party] Retaking a Class: not mean??[Party] Honeybread: yeah[Party] Retaking a Class: ㅠㅠ..."You’ve seriously got the worst personality."[Party] Honeybread: fuck offI can hear you, asshole.When I brandished my weapon, Gang Jaegyung fluttered off like a leaf, fleeing toward Mirror Cliff. I chased after him with murderous intent, spamming skills, but of course they didn’t land—so I just sighed and gave up.While answering some questions from viewers as we flew across the cliff, Gang Jaegyung suddenly stopped and moved toward the mirror.What now, you nosy bastard?[Party] Honeybread: what is it this time"I saw something weird in the mirror just now."[Party] Honeybread: ?What, like a ghost in the mirror?[Party] Honeybread: it’s a ghost lol"No, seriously. I saw some kind of… weird shadow pass by behind the mirror. You know how the mirror reflects and reflects and reflects again, so it looks like there are a bunch of us? One of them had something black pass behind it. I couldn’t see the shape clearly but…"…Really?A chill ran up my back, and I froze slightly. I’ve always been the jumpy type—nothing I could do about that. I relaxed my body, telling myself Jaegyung was messing around, trying to stay calm."I only caught it for a second… Did anyone else see it?"But Gang Jaegyung’s voice sounded too serious. I wanted to believe he was joking—but it didn’t sound like one. Was it real?I consciously avoided looking at the mirror. I knew this wasn’t a horror game but… scary shit is still scary.I hate this kind of thing. The slow approach, the sudden jump scare."Honeybread?"He was chatting with his viewers, but now he called out to me. I moved my stiff fingers to type a reply.[Party] Honeybread: yeah?"…So you didn’t see anything either?"[Party] Honeybread: nopeAfter I replied, Gang Jaegyung went quiet for a second, like he was thinking—then casually said:"Of course you didn’t. I was lying."And then he calmly turned and started crossing the cliff.…How do I kill this bastard?"Even you fell for it. You believe in ghosts?"[Party] Honeybread: as much as you do"So, not at all."I figured he’d say that. But if we weren’t alone right now, I would’ve told him to shut the fuck up. I still hadn’t forgotten the time he kept me up at 2AM debating whether ghosts could really exist and what metaphysical form they’d take.As I was plotting how to punish him next time we met, we arrived at the other end of the cliff.I touched down and folded my wings. If we turned right here, there’d be a dark room with the round-eyed creatures. Straight ahead would be the huge door Adam and Abrea tried to open. It was sealed, so we couldn’t go, but I still wanted to try.After a moment of idle thought, I turned toward the dark room where the round-eyes would be. Just like last time, the white-glowing creatures fluttered around inside, reflected in the many mirrors. Back then, each one had looked so real, and since it was a mob room, I assumed there were a bunch of them. Funny how strong bias can be.Gang Jaegyung cast a buff on me again, and I charged the round-eyes."I’ll take care of the mirrors across and above. You handle the ones near you."[Party] Honeybread: got itSince we knew the mechanics now, we moved efficiently and smashed every mirror reflecting the round-eyes. Once only one was left, Gang Jaegyung found a switch and turned on the room’s lights.[System] The White-Light Aberration has been exposed to a bright space and its sense of self has weakened!The system log popped up, and the round-eye became so weak it barely counted as a dungeon mob.Its HP dropped to 1% with a few hits. Like last time, it didn’t die—instead, it remained at 1% and began to swell grotesquely. Bigger, and bigger, until it filled the room, then slammed its massive body onto the floor.[System] The White-Light Aberration has bloated its body to ~Nоvеl𝕚ght~ assert its identity!Now a giant furball, the round-eye curled into a ball. Then, using the momentum from rocking back and forth, it slammed into the wall, breaking through—and began to roll forward.Same pattern as before. Past the smashed wall, we could see the lounge where we’d first met null. The bloated round-eye peeked back through the hole to check if we were following.So far, everything was exactly the same. Or… does it change from here on?Yeah, now that I thought about it, nothing unusual happened before meeting null."Let’s go."We followed the path made by the round-eye and crossed over into the now-familiar lounge.***UE_LOG(LogTemp, Log, TEXT("Hello, Dusk!"));
