[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: gThere’s a saying: “Games aren’t played to win. They’re played to piss off the enemy.”I really like that quote.[Team] FindingNemo’sDong: hurry up and go full tank-support, brosIn the character select screen, I hurried to click on {N•o•v•e•l•i•g•h•t} Aegis. A message popped up in chat right away:[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: Aegis is kinda squishy tho[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: I’m an Aegis main[Team] FindingNemo’sDong: ? If you're that good at Aegis, play a real tank[Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding: shut it[Team] FoundYourNeck: If he’s duoing with a support main, he must be decent. Just let him play what he wantsAegis is pretty solid if you move well—his HP doesn't drop easily. But he can feel like paper if you're up against DPS that deal persistent chip damage you can’t dodge, so I scanned the character select screen to see if there was another tank worth switching to.Just then, I heard keyboard tapping beside me.[Team] Retaking a Class: no[Team] Retaking a Class: if we’re going tank-support, it’s actually better to pick something a little squishy like Aegis[Team] FindingNemo’sDong: explain whyWouldn’t it make more sense to pick the thickest possible character and go full tank mode if the goal was to be annoying? I wondered if he was just trying to cover for me…[Team] Retaking a Class: if we’re too tanky, the enemy will feel helpless and probably just surrender early[Team] Retaking a Class: if we wanna draw it out, we gotta make them feel like it’s winnable, like “oh hey, maybe we’ve got a shot”Classic Gang Jaegyung.[Team] FindingNemo’sDong: makes sense lol[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: support mains are built different[Team] FoundYourNeck: haha[Team] FoundNemo’sDong: not you[Team] FoundYourNeck: -__-Time ran out, and the character select screen transitioned to the loading screen. As I looked at the enemy team’s character illustrations, I muttered:“This comp looks ridiculous, huh.”“Yeah, it really does.”The other side was probably thinking the same about us. You couldn’t see who was in which position, but with three tank-class characters and two classic supports, it was obvious the comp was totally busted.“Hope they’re the loud, salty type. It’s more fun when they start whining openly.”“Then we’ll just have to make them type in all-chat even if they normally don’t.”“Wise words.”We were still bantering when the loading ended and the game began. We bought defense pills with our starting gold and rushed out together to kill the Hoom camp placed near base. The very first Hoom is weak enough to kill without even using the pill, but it gets tougher after that. Which means… from then on, unless we killed the enemy team, we’d have no way to farm gold. We didn’t have the damage. So our only option was to start fights, kill the enemy team, and keep them from growing.[Team] FindingNemo’sDong (Yuji) is signaling to attack![Team] FindingNemo’sDong (Yuji) is signaling engage![Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding (Aegis) is signaling to attack![Team] FoundYourNeck (Engel) is signaling to attack![Team] FoundNemo’sDong (Papao) is signaling to attack![Team] FoundYourNeck (Engel) is signaling to attack![Team] Dingdigidiridingdigiding (Aegis) is signaling to attack![Team] FoundYourNeck (Engel) is signaling to attack![Team] FoundNemo’sDong (Papao) is signaling to attack! The screen flooded with ping spam. Fired up, we marched down the area between the middle and right lanes—where the enemy was most likely to show up.As we scouted, we heard footsteps near the right lane. I pinged the minimap to mark their location. The main tank, FindingNemo’sDong, who had signaled first engage, turned and charged that way.[Team] FindingNemo’sDong (Yuji) is signaling engage! And with that ping, NemoDong popped an engage skill and rushed into the enemy team. They only had a tank and melee DPS there.Their tank, we’d never be able to kill. Their healing would outscale our damage and just stall us out.So I went for the melee DPS and cast a skill. He got hit, knocked back, and staggered. He shook off the status pretty quick and retaliated with an auto attack.I blocked the hit with a counter skill, staggered him again, and used a damage buff before unleashing a string of high-damage abilities. Chained into my combo, he couldn't break free and his health dropped fast. Then he popped a disengage move to pull back—but I’d expected it, and closed the gap again with a charge skill. From nearby, I heard the sounds of backup—other teammates were starting to fight too. Just one ally here and we could take this DPS down quick… I glanced at Gang Jaegyung’s screen. He seemed busy holding his own, so I decided to handle it solo.No one on their team would be able to help this DPS now. He’d used a disengage and distanced himself from his allies. It was a natural 1v1.Perfect. I never lose 1v1s.He chipped away at my HP with landing skills here and there, but I was hitting him harder. Aegis with a defense build didn’t top charts, but with good mechanics, the damage held up fine. And the ultimate? Against a ranged DPS, it was nearly a guaranteed one-shot.I staggered the melee and instantly pressed my ult key. He got launched upward as my character prepped the strike, and a prompt popped up on screen:[W D A S R Q A W X F]You have to press all ten letters in order within 2 seconds. The more you hit, the higher the damage. Most players average between four and seven. Some people would even slam or smear their fists across the keys to hit more…But I don’t resort to that kind of undignified behavior.1COMBO!2COMBO!3COMBO!4COMBO!!5COMBO!!6COMBO!!7COMBO!!!8COMBO!!!9COMBO!!!Ah—missed one. Still, nine combos…[- “Victory to the battlefield!”]That bastard’s definitely dead.White light burst from my character’s eyes. The melee DPS who met them turned gray, petrifying into stone. Then my character punched—and the stone man shattered into pieces.[Dingdigidiridingdigiding (Aegis) >>> TasteOfLosingTV (Raibl) KILL!!]Money for the next defense item: secured. With light footsteps, I moved to support my team. I found FoundYourNeck and Gang Jaegyung fighting nearby and joined them.“Killed Raibl.”“I saw it from my screen. Nice job.”“You can teamfight while watching another screen?”“I was just checking if you needed help. Saw the ult land and the kill, that’s it. But how’re your hands that fast? That’s the first time I’ve seen someone do 9-combo with Aegis ult.”I grinned and kept pounding on the enemy ranged DPS—already softened up by Gang Jaegyung and the other tank.“Ten’s easy. I just slipped since I haven’t played in a while.”“…Yeong, you honestly could’ve gone pro. Even that Aegis main who got interviewed couldn’t do a 10-combo.”“Can’t. If I go to tournaments, you wouldn’t be there.”Gang Jaegyung went completely silent after I said that. I turned my head—he looked flustered, hands still twitching on his keyboard.Heh. Caught him off guard.“What’s wrong, Jaegyungie? Why so quiet?”“Ah, ju–just focusing on the game.”“Ah… I see.”He stammered through the worst excuse I’d ever heard, and I couldn’t help but grin like a devil.Maybe realizing he couldn’t escape, Gang Jaegyung stammered again and desperately tried to change the subject.“By the… way, Mr. Go, why’d you pick Holy Knight as your main?”Okay, now that was an obvious topic switch. Like, miles off track. But I decided to play dumb and go with it.“They’re sturdy. Can hold out for a long time.”“But Aegis isn’t that sturdy.”“I originally liked offensive characters like Aegis. Started Dusk as a warrior. But the more I played, the more I gravitated to Holy Knight.”“Ah, I see…”He calmed down once the conversation turned and responded more smoothly. Just as our chat ended, the melee DPS I’d killed earlier respawned—and the team fight got hectic again. We all quieted down to focus. One minute. Two. Three. Four…Time passed, but the fight never ended. People died and respawned, but the brawl just dragged on. Because even when someone died, nine others were still alive. Their team couldn’t kill us easily, and we had to blow multiple ultimates just to secure one kill.At one point, the enemy ranged DPS tried backing out. I finished off the melee DPS I’d been brawling with using my ult, then stuck to the ranged to stop them from escaping. Gang Jaegyung also noticed the enemy trying to back off and used his ult to force them back into the fight.[Retaking a Class (Major VIII) >>> CuzYouMyGirl (BlueBird) KILL!!]And then—finally—global chat appeared.[All] CuzYouMyGirl (BlueBird): you fs**[All] CuzYouMyGirl (BlueBird): you fing psychos**[All] CuzYouMyGirl (BlueBird): you disgusting DEGENERATE FREAKS!!!!A delicious scream.
