Dusk (BL Light Novel)

chapter 146

Now that I thought about it, while we were waiting at the loading screen, Gang Jaegyung had mentioned that the enemy team had only one tank and one support. They were short on tanks but still needed to level their damage dealer, so it looked like the support had taken the tank’s place and was feeding the Hooum.Support characters could also help damage dealers farm the Hooum just like tanks ❀ Nоvеlігht ❀ (Don’t copy, read here) could. They had tons of crowd control skills, so they could feed DPS without taking a ton of hits like tanks needed to.But if it were all upside, everyone would’ve just played support. The biggest perk of being a support was being able to suppress the enemy effectively with multiple status effect skills—but if you used all your skills on the Hooum just to level a DPS, what would you do when the enemy showed up?[Team] Dingdigididiridingdigiding (Aegis) signals they will engage![Team] Dingdigididiridingdigiding (Aegis) is requesting assistance.Without hesitation, I pinged my teammates and charged in at the enemy team. Their support, thanks to their role and gear, definitely had a much wider field of view and must’ve seen me coming, but they didn’t react in time and got hit by my skill head-on. They must’ve blown all their cooldowns on the Hooum and had no way to respond.I used a knockdown skill to disable the support and blocked the enemy DPS from attacking our team. In that window, our DPS went all-in on their squishy damage dealer. It was still early, so damage output wasn’t high and it took some time to whittle them down, but I kept locking them down so they couldn’t cast skills, and we managed to get a clean kill.[LetItGo (Orlabia) >>> GlutinousDuck (Berry) KILL!!][Team] LetItGo (Orlabia) thanks you.We landed the first kill and got bonus XP and gold. I also got some assist credit, so I had enough to buy another item. Just like before, I picked a pill that increased defense and reduced Bleed Rate.I figured we couldn’t take the support down too, since our DPS had burned all their skills, so I pinged for a retreat and started falling back—only for three enemy players to come charging in from the adjacent lane. The lanes were spaced far enough apart that, this early in the game, with everyone’s movement speed still low, it should’ve been tough to rotate that fast. But it looked like the enemy team had seen our initiation and immediately rushed over to help. Two on our side. Four on theirs—including their support. In a low-stat early game like this, a 2v4 meant death was guaranteed. I was about to draw their attention and sacrifice myself to let our DPS escape when—“Don’t stop. Just keep retreating.”I’d completely forgotten he was there—until I heard his voice. All four enemy players were hit with a simultaneous stun. Gang Jaegyung had come up from mid and dropped a massive AOE ult.In that opening, I grabbed our DPS and quickly backed off mid lane. Jaegyung also pulled away and followed us into the safety zone around our tower. If the enemy crossed into that zone, they’d take constant chip damage. With their low level and incomplete farm, they wouldn’t dare dive that far.As expected, the enemy didn’t chase. Even after waiting a bit, they didn’t show up again. We almost gave up a death within the first two minutes of the match. Then, like he could read my mind, Gang Jaegyung said beside me in a smug, confident voice:“See? Told you you need me.”Supports were supposed to shuttle between parties and help wherever needed. What he just did was textbook support behavior.Even so, he looked so proud of himself, going on and on with a bright face—it was kind of cute, actually.“But was it okay to blow your ult just to save me? What are you gonna do in the next teamfight?”Most ultimates had long cooldowns to balance their power. And early game fights happened often since respawn timers were short. In teamfights, every ultimate was precious. Using one just to save me might leave us short for the next engagement. But Jaegyung was always a calculating bastard.“Their DPS just died, so they’re behind on growth. Plus, since the other three rotated mid, they didn’t get the Hooum either. From their perspective, they need to focus on farming gold instead of picking fights. Even if they do risk a teamfight, I only used my ult. Our comp is stronger than theirs, so the odds of them winning are low. If I hadn’t used my ult and let our tank die, that would’ve cost us more.”It was honestly impressive how quickly and clearly he broke that all down. I usually acted before I thought—so for me, that kind of snap judgment wasn’t easy.“And also… If the odds of them winning are low in a teamfight…”He trailed off mischievously.“That means we have a high chance of winning, doesn’t it?”“…”[Team] Dingdigididiridingdigiding (Aegis) is requesting regroup.[Team] Dingdigididiridingdigiding (Aegis) signals they will engage![Team] Dingdigididiridingdigiding (Aegis) is requesting assistance.[Team] Dingdigididiridingdigiding (Aegis) is requesting regroup.I skimmed the minimap and sent out pings to our teammates.Just as Jaegyung said, the enemy was behind on growth. Their comp was weak, and if we initiated, they’d be too busy defending to counterattack. Even if things went sideways and we lost, it was still early enough to recover. It was worth taking the risk. The party farming Hooum on the left lane began rotating silently toward mid. I pinged mid lane again to signal my intention to engage there. In MOBA games, the visible range—the vision—was narrow. In Dusk, you could spot enemies from far away and even get visual cues on the minimap. But in Lastones, unless an enemy was inside your vision range, you couldn’t see them—not even on the map.So how did you locate the enemy? You could buy a ward, an item that grants vision at a fixed point, or have a support, who naturally had wider vision, roam the map and act as a living ward. You could also guess enemy location from sound cues—footsteps or skills being cast—or rely on the “Shaman,” an NPC that moved up the lane to push towers and provided temporary vision. At that moment, the Shamans from both sides had been summoned and were pushing lanes. Killing them yielded XP and gold, so the behind enemy team would be scrambling to get to them first.Since we ran off after seeing their backup earlier, they’d probably think we moved to another lane. That meant the enemy DPS and support were likely heading mid to take out the Shaman. Then again… they could go right, play it safe, and farm Hooums and Shamans to catch up. But since this was just a normal match, they might mindlessly head back to mid—their assigned lane—without thinking. Not that it mattered. Either way, we were winning. No need to overthink it.“I’ll push left lane a little and join you,” Jaegyung said.As support, he moved to clean up the left lane. He had slightly faster movement speed than us, so backup wouldn’t be an issue. And by pushing the left lane, he’d make the enemy think we were still over there, lowering their guard.I watched our Shaman move up the lane. Right as it reached the midpoint, the Shaman’s vision revealed enemy presence. What I saw was the enemy tank. I couldn’t see the others, but a tank couldn’t solo a Shaman. That meant their DPS had to be there too.[Team] Dingdigididiridingdigiding (Aegis) signals they will engage! As soon as I spotted the enemy, I stepped into the Shadow Zone—a pitch-black area scattered along the edges of each lane. Inside, my character turned semi-transparent. Entering a Shadow Zone rendered me invisible on the enemy’s screen and silenced all footstep sounds—perfect for sneaking up.The teammates following me stepped into the Shadow Zone too, activating their stealth. Careful not to alert the enemy, we moved silently toward mid.Once the enemy team moved from minimap range to on-screen visibility, I waited—watching for skill animations. As soon as I saw the enemy blow their key abilities—[Team] Dingdigididiridingdigiding (Aegis) is requesting assistance.—I pinged, and charged in with Aegis’s ultimate, initiating the teamfight.
