Felix was momentarily knocked out.
He had no idea how long he had been falling for. In truth, he didn't even know if he had been falling or soaring upward.
However, when he crashed into the mirror barrier—or at least, what he thought was a mirror barrier—he sustained some minor injuries from the abrupt stop. And the next thing he knew, he came crashing down on a snowy ground.
His eyes shot open, and he hurriedly got to his feet, looking around in alarm. Underneath the wooden mask, his eyes flickered with apprehension.
He was in an unknown land, in an unknown realm… in an unknown world.
Felix had never ventured this deep into the spirit world before. He knew all too well that every corner of this mystical dimension was filled with unspeakable dangers and ancient horrors that could drive a person to madness with nothing more than a single glance.
So the first thing he did was to scan his surroundings and check for any immediate danger.
A gust of cold wind blew by, making him, who was a powerful Mana Core Magus, shudder. The environment was unexpected, to say the least. Just like the spirit world.
He seemed to have landed near the center of the snowy island. Felix was already halfway up to the summit of the hill. To his left, there was a sheer drop into nothing but darkness, bottomless and foreboding. To his right lay a steep, jagged cliff face.
The path beneath his feet was broad enough for ten carriages to ride side by side, and it seemed to circle the hill in a winding loop. From what he could tell, this was the only navigable route around the hill.
Far off into the distance to his left, he could see shadowy figures prowling in the snow. There were several of them, with the weakest of them displaying energy fluctuations similar to a Mana Foundation Magus. There were also a handful of them whose presence caused even Felix to turn solemn.
With nothing but a jagged cliff to his right, Feliz turned his gaze upward, toward the sky.
Above him stretched a breathtaking canvas of deep violet, painted with countless white specks that glittered like stars. It was beautiful, yet alien… a sky not born of any world he'd known.
At the far edge of the violet canvas, something shifted. In the next moment, Feliz witnessed as an entire patch of the sky turned stark white as if someone had simply… erased it.
Then, slowly, new colors began to bleed into the blank void, swirling and spreading as if someone was painting over the emptiness with deliberate and graceful strokes!
Feliz immediately looked away, a sharp chill creeping down his spine. He knew better than to stare too long at something in the spirit world.
Whatever was happening above him… whoever or whatever was behind it… he had no desire to find out.
All he needed to do at the moment was get hold of Adam and escape this horrifying dimension. Every passing moment in the spirit world slowly corroded his soul. Creatures from the material world weren't meant to linger here.
Stay too long and the world itself would consume you.
When he tore his gaze away from the sky above and looked down, his eyes widened in sheer disbelief. The chain in his hand, the one tethering him to Adam…
Was broken!
He grasped the broken end of the chain, his heart pounding wildly in his chest. The links had been snapped apart with brute force, and the chain felt lighter in his hand than it should have.
Where… where did he go?! Impossible!
For the first time in a long, long time, fear crept into his heart. He looked around with sheer terror flickering in his eyes. But no matter where he looked, all he saw was snow. Adam was nowehere to be seen.
How could he have broken this chain?! It's… it's a Rank 4 Spell!
But more importantly, with the chain now broken and his connection to Adam severed, Felix had no way to return to the material world. So what if he was a mighty Mana Core Magus? This was a completely different world with its own set of laws.
With nothing anchoring him to the material world, he was now adrift, doomed to be lost and wander this mystical and horrifying dimension. But even more pressing was the slow and inevitable decay of his soul.
The longer he remained, the more it would wither away, until all that remained was a hollow, lifeless husk. The same principle applied to the spirit world creatures who stayed for too long in the material world.
Being a Mana Core Magus, Felix would be able to survive for a bit longer. Maybe a few days, perhaps a few weeks? But what about after?
He was truly doomed if he didn't find a way back to the material world.
Was this his plan all along?!
The cultist thought to himself, his heart turning cold.
No, more importantly, how is he able to navigate this ghostly dimension in the first place? I clearly saw him flying towards the particular floating island… Just how…
Then, a terrifying thought appeared inside his mind.
If the boy can truly navigate through the dangers of this world… then he must have already returned to the material world!
Could it be...
Felix felt lost and utterly terrified. His thoughts were chaotic, and he couldn't make sense of anything happening to him… around him. This was a world made up of abstract information and symbolisms, after all.
Inside this mystical dimension, time and space had lost their meaning. He may have been standing in the blizzard for a few seconds, or perhaps a few hours. He had no way to know. He could not discern the direction, nor could he discern his past and present.
The battle of Ravenfell felt like a memory of the future.
But the most dangerous aspect about the spirit world wasn't its environment, it was the hidden existences that lurked deep within its fold. Ancient, unfathomably powerful entities dwelled here, and drawing their attention was something no traveller wished for.
But that is exactly what Felix had done the moment he had encroached upon the territory of one such existence. The instant he shattered the barrier and landed on the snowy hill, its ruler had already taken notice.
Dust, debris, and chunks of ice tumbled down from the summit of the hill, crashing onto the wide pathway. Even through the roar of the howling blizzard, Felix could feel the sudden disturbance.
His instincts screamed. Without hesitation, he circulated the mana in his body and got into a combat stance. He turned towards the jagged cliff, where shards of ice and clouds of dust were still falling downward.
A grim expression formed beneath his mask, and he slowly lifted his head…
And what he saw above filled every corner of his being with indescribable horror!
