The Transmigrated Villain Hates the Main Character

chapter 53

Why?There was only one possible reason the monsters kept going for him.A transmigrant. That was the only thing that set Raon apart. But in the previous timeline, when he’d been playing the part of Han Raon, monsters hadn’t targeted him any more than usual. So blaming it solely on transmigration didn’t add up.Or is it because I rewound? This time he wasn’t just a transmigrant—he’d gone through a rewind too. And unlike before, when the System’s control had forced him to follow the villain Raon’s every move, he was now acting freely. So yes, things were very different from last time. But why would that make him a target? He couldn’t figure it out. Gritting his teeth, Raon forced himself up the increasingly steep stairs.“Keek!”“Urgh!”Dozens of monsters clung to the walls now, cracking the stone with every strike. The tower was collapsing piece by piece. At this rate, it would come down entirely. They were almost high enough to reach the combat team. But fighting through this swarm any further looked impossible.“Siwoo! Esper Yeojoon!”“But if we attack, the tower—”“Better that than the Guides dying!”“Got it!”Siwoo hesitated, then dropped his barrier and attacked. His and Yeojoon’s combined assault hit perfectly, charring the monsters black as they tumbled out of the tower one after another.“Everyone, gather here!”“Y-yes!”Raon pulled the Guides into the middle. In a space this narrow, one misstep could mean a fall to death.“Ahh!”“Guide Dasom!”In the chaos, Dasom’s foot slipped, her body tipping dangerously toward the open edge—and a monster dove in for the kill.“Damn it!”Raon threw himself forward without thinking. Pure instinct. His hand caught Dasom’s arm and shoved her backward with all his strength.“Team Leader!”Hamin’s horrified voice reached him faintly. The monster’s beak missed by inches, but Raon’s body had already tilted completely out over the edge in Dasom’s place.“Ugh!”A gust hit just then. Wind roared past, and Raon’s body plunged into open air. He shut his eyes tight. The air sliced his cheeks as he fell. From this height, death was ➤ NоvеⅠight ➤ (Read more on our source) certain—if the monsters didn’t reach him first. So that’s it, then.He let go completely. Funny how he’d lived longer hiding behind Espers while pretending to be the villain. At least he’d done what he wanted this time. No regrets.“Team Leader! Wake up! Team Leader!”“...Huh?”He’d resigned himself—yet a voice he shouldn’t be hearing pierced his ears. Startled, Raon’s eyes flew open.“Guide Hamin?”“T-Team Leader, are you all right?”“Hamin—ugh—Guide, why are you—!”Raon stared in disbelief. The person gripping him mid-fall was unmistakably Hamin. He must’ve jumped after him.At least one of us has to live!Raon could die—but Hamin was the story’s protagonist. Even if Raon had subdued the irregular Gate a year early, the difficulty curve meant Hamin was destined to reawaken as an S-rank Guide within two years. If Hamin survived, humanity might stand a chance. Yet here he was, falling with him. It made no sense.“What were you thinking?!”“I’m sorry—I didn’t even think—!”“Urgh.”Talking while free-falling was nearly impossible. The wind tore at them; Raon could barely keep his eyes open. He clamped both arms tight around Hamin’s.He had to save Hamin somehow. But without Esper power, he couldn’t even slow their fall.“Screech!”And monsters were closing in. Raon pulled Hamin close, shielding him with his body.Thud!“Ugh.”A heavy impact—but Raon felt nothing. Confused, he looked toward where the monster had been—“What...?”“Grrk... khhk...”The creature right before them hung frozen midair, limbs jerking as if trapped in invisible restraints. And Raon—wasn’t falling anymore. They were floating.“Team Leader...”“Hamin... Guide?”Raon looked down at the trembling figure in his arms. Hamin’s face was white as chalk, his hand stretched toward the immobilized monster. No way... Hamin did this? Two people suspended in the air. A monster locked in place. That wasn’t something a Guide could do.But there were no Espers here. Only the two of them had fallen. If Raon had reawakened as an Esper, he’d have felt it immediately.“That can’t be...”He muttered blankly. Yet there was no denying it—this had to be Hamin’s doing. The same Hamin who, in the original story, had reawakened as an S-rank Guide.“I... I think I can do this.”“Do what?”Hamin flexed his fingers slightly, then spoke with newfound resolve. Raon was still too stunned to respond.Whoosh!“Ugh!”A sharp gust split the air beside them—far louder than any fall.Slash, slash!“Screech!”“The monster—!”Invisible blades ripped the creature apart. Blood scattered as the dismembered body tumbled downward.Raon stared, then turned to Hamin, who exhaled a long, shaking breath, sweat dripping down his temples.“Phew.”“Guide Hamin... that just now—”“Yeah. I think that was me.”Meeting Raon’s eyes, Hamin gave a small, almost sheepish smile. Raon could only stare back, speechless. His mind spun. How could a Guide be using an Esper’s ability? None of this made sense.“I think... I can get us back up.”“Then I’ll leave it to you.”Right now, survival came first. Raon glanced toward the tower—already distant and faint. At least they were alive. A moment ago both of them had been seconds from dying for nothing.“Uh, hold on tighter.”“Ah.”“I’m still not good at controlling it...”Hamin’s face was bright red as he spoke. Raon nodded obediently.“Understood.”Hamin had only just awakened. Floating here while clinging to each other was one thing; flying back up was another. And now he had Raon—extra weight—to carry.Raon wrapped his arms tighter, pressing close. His head ended up resting against Hamin’s chest, where a frantic heartbeat pounded against his ear. He’s really nervous. It was racing so fast it might burst.Raon frowned slightly, about to ask if he was all right, when Hamin’s trembling arms came around his shoulders.“Then... I’m going up.”“Go ahead.”Their bodies began to rise, slowly at first. Raon still couldn’t tell what kind of ability this was, but given that it could fly and cut through monsters like invisible blades, it had to be either wind or telekinesis.Still, it wasn’t quite like Dojin’s telekinesis. Dojin could fly with it, yes, but it was closer to pure psychic force—there was no wind. Here, though, the air moved. Wind whirled around them. The same force that had shredded the monster moments ago.Wind-type Espers were rare—powerful and versatile, but uncommon, and Korea had none above A-rank.Raon didn’t yet know Hamin’s rank, but after seeing so many high-level Espers firsthand, he could tell this ability wasn’t low-grade. Even unsteady as it was, its strength was undeniable. What the hell is happening...He sighed inwardly. Hamin faltered once, misjudging their position, but soon managed to rise all the way back toward the tower.“All right, we’re almost at the tower—”“Wait.”“Yes?”Just as they neared the base, Raon noticed something wrong. Hamin followed his gaze upward—then gasped.“The bottom of the tower—”“Get higher, now!”“Right!”The tower was collapsing—slowly, but from the ground up.
